And to be super nosy, what they were for.

OP posts:
FourTeaFallOut · 03/08/2020 17:58

I don't know. I remember having the "banana medicine" in the fridge a few times when they were toddlers and ds2 definitely had a course when he was in hospital with a respiratory infection. So maybe four times between the two oldest children and once - I think- for the youngest but I can say for certain that no-one has had them in the last five years.

If I knew it was a point of pride op, I'd have kept count for you.

Hippofrog · 03/08/2020 17:58

DS had them in Nicu and I had Strep B. He’s 9 now and not had any.

Picklypickles · 03/08/2020 17:58

My children are 8 and 6, the 8yr old had them once for an infected finger and the 6yr old has had them once for a chest infection.

They are doing much better than I did as a child, I was almost always on antibiotics for tonsillitis and ear infections up until I had my tonsils and adenoids out and grommits in my ears!

kirkandpetal · 03/08/2020 17:59

@JuniperFather

YABU not to share more of why you want to know, and what your concerns are.

Perhaps something in your OP that explains how many times you've given them to your DCs, as I presume that's triggered the posting?

I won't share with someone who just randomly barks imperatives at me, without them sharing first.

Scroll on then. No one is forcing you to answer FFS.
Pimmsypimms · 03/08/2020 18:00

Ds is 7 and he's had them 3 times. Twice for ear infections and once for an infected cut on his finger.

devildeepbluesea · 03/08/2020 18:00

DD7, a fair few times. Once for tonsillitis and several times for UTIs, to which she is prone.

Can't honestly think why you'd be interested though.

SisterAgatha · 03/08/2020 18:01

Twice I think? Ear infection and another time but I can’t remember what for.

The two little ones haven’t had them so far (5 and 4)

kirkandpetal · 03/08/2020 18:01

My 10yo has never had them.

My 8yo has them when she was about 6month for bad eczema rash that got infected. Otherwise none since.

SisterAgatha · 03/08/2020 18:02

Oh and by 10 I had probably had them myself nearly 10 times. I had them alllllllllll the time for everything!

BKCRMP · 03/08/2020 18:02

My DS is 3yr10m. He has had 34 prescriptions for antibiotics.

Before any is horrified by that..

At 3 weeks old he had GBS causing Sepsis. At 8 weeks he had a chest infection.
At 7 months he had his first bout of tonsilitis. He had tonsilitis every 3 weeks until they were removed at 30 months. The last 6 month's of that he was needing 2 or 3 courses of antibiotics to get rid of it.

It took that long and that much to get them removed. Has had them once since when he had puemonia at Christmas. His first 2.5 years were utterly miserable.

TheGreatWave · 03/08/2020 18:02

Dd1 (14) Aged 5. Ear infection.
DS (12) Never
DD2 (8) Aged 2. Infected chicken pox.

As a child I had recurrent ear infections, at one point they would prescribe them without any clinical signs of an infection as I signalled one was coming. (I would put a particular hat on to try to ease the pain) By the next day it was an obvious infection.

By about 10 I was asking for tablets.

gallbladderpain · 03/08/2020 18:07

Oh jeepers ive lost count with DC (4) since December we have had 6 courses and that's been excellent compared to the previous ! All chest/lung infection and some for tonsillitis
DC (7) I think it's maybe been about 5 ...a couple of really bad ear infections and scarlet fever twice and a tooth infection

Angel2702 · 03/08/2020 18:09

Eldest once for an ear infection, middle a handful of time for chest infections when he was a baby / toddler and youngest age 9 twice for chest infections as a toddler.

Bingobongo1 · 03/08/2020 18:09

Ds 1 regularly from 6 weeks probably about 6-8 weekly till about 10 then on and off since for chest, tonsillitis, eye infections, skin infections, peg infections. Has low immune system.
Ds2 a handful of times.
Dd1 regularly from 6 weeks. From 2-8 years had profolactic antibiotics 3 times a week plus on and off short term courses. Plus at one point had a picc line for iv administration. She has physical issues with her lungs and bronchus, liver disease and tonsillectomy.

Angelmonkey · 03/08/2020 18:10

DS9 - once for an ear infection around 2 years old, DD5 - once about 18 months for a urine infection

IndieTara · 03/08/2020 18:11

6 different types of antibiotics last year alone all for tonsillitis

megletthesecond · 03/08/2020 18:12

13yo DS. I think possibly once for a UTI.

11yo DD. Once for a perforated ear drum.

ChaBishkoot · 03/08/2020 18:12

Many. 6 times in the first winter (thanks daycare!). Another 6-8 times over the next few winters. Last couple of years once for balanitis.

Sexnotgender · 03/08/2020 18:13

Lost count quite honestly. 10 hospitalisations for pneumonia, various other chest infections. Ended up on prophylactic antibiotics.

ChaBishkoot · 03/08/2020 18:15

Oh that’s DS1. DS2 had four rounds before his due date. He was born extremely prematurely. He had suspected sepsis at birth, and then 3 further occasions of concern, one of which required minor surgical intervention. He’s been readmitted to hospital many times and needed antibiotics on most of those occasions. I have genuinely lost count.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 03/08/2020 18:17

DS1 had iv antibiotics for the first time at 12 months for an infection while he had chicken pox - he was desperately unwell and spent 5 days in hospital.

He probably had about 15 doses of antibiotics over the following few years for ear and throat infections until he had his tonsils out. As soon as they'd gone he never needed more.

DS2 had chest infections repeatedly from around 8 months old - I was convinced he had asthma and our GP refused to accept it, so continued to offer antibiotics each time he want to see the Dr with a rattly chest til I saw a private Dr who specialised in asthma - he diagnosed DS2 immediately and he's never needed antibiotics since.

In total DS1 probably had about 20, DS2 around 10.

BoggledBudgie · 03/08/2020 18:17

At least 2-3 times a year, on top of steroids. Mainly for any respiratory related illness (croup, chest infection, bronchitis, tonsillitis a few times though I know that’s not respiratory related!)

BoggledBudgie · 03/08/2020 18:18

Sorry, so if probably 20+ times for 10 year ild

youwereagoodcakeclyde · 03/08/2020 18:22

Eldest once for a spreading toe infection aged 9 months, then for balanitis and again after having circumcision, aged 8

Second child once at 9 months old for perforated ear drum (regret this one as it was probably unnecessary but didn't know that then) and 2 courses with 2 significant urinary tract infections aged 6

Third child once at 2 years old after cough and unwell/a temperature for 14 days straight. Then aged 5 years perforated appendix/appendectomy and had 4 days IV antibiotics, went home, readmitted and had another 5 days IV antibiotics

Fourth child is only 5 and so far none needed.

Lovelydovey · 03/08/2020 18:22

DS1 (10) I think three times. In neonatal unit preventatively (and in utero as I had them in labour as waters broke before I went into labour) around aged 5 for a UTI and then around aged 8 for impetigo.

I don’t think DS2 (8) has ever had antibiotics.

To be fair I think I’ve only had them 5 times in the past 15+ years (twice for mastitis, twice in labour and once for an ear infection).
