And to be super nosy, what they were for.

DD1 (now 9)- a couple of times as toddler. Then scarlet fever at 8yo.

DD2- toddler, then Scarlet Fever at 6, then impetigo (also 6). Now 7.

MitziK · 03/08/2020 18:24

DD1 - Definitely once, chest infection aged 5.

DD2 - maybe the same? I really can't remember her ever being ill other than a couple of viruses/chickenpox - and Measles just before her 1st MMR was due. Injured, frequently, as she inherited my Launch-Into-Everything attitude. Oh, there was the Manky Thumb Cream (official Medical Diagnosis - that GP was great with 7 year olds) from getting an infection after shutting the tip of it in the balcony door and the nail coming off.

It's the same frequency as the DTwatCats.

DD age 12 I don’t think has ever had antibiotics
DS1 age 13 probably had when he was small but not sure. When he was 8 he had a ruptured appendix and surgery. He was in hospital for 3 day’s with antibiotics via IV then when we went home he had 2 different types of extra strong antibiotics that were a nightmare to get down him as they were foul and as soon as I’d got him to take a does it was nearly time for the next one!
DS2 age 9 was constantly on antibiotics when he was a toddler as had constant ear infections and perforated ear drums and then had grommets. He’s also prone to UTIs and so has had antibiotics several times for that and is actually on a course at the moment.

OverTheRainbow88 · 03/08/2020 18:27

DS1 is 4 and never

DS2 once as chicken pox got infected

Porcupineinwaiting · 03/08/2020 18:29

Ds1 about 20 times, mostly bw the ages of 18mo and 4 for ear infections.

Ds2 prophylactic antibiotics daily from 6mo to 18 mo for kidney reflux. A couple of times since for ear infections (he's now 12).

acocadochocolate · 03/08/2020 18:34

DD1 twice, I think for infected cuts, around age 6.

DD2 at birth for a chest infection.

iolaus · 03/08/2020 18:34

Two of them I don't think ever did

One had prophylaxis - daily antibiotics as was born with a renal condition until she was 4 or 5. She's had one course of them at 7 or 8 years old for a urine infection
One had them once for a chest infection, guessing at about 5

thewalrus · 03/08/2020 18:40

DD1, 13, twice I think. Tonsilitis once and a UTI.
DD2, 11, about 6 times - tonsilitis, impetigo, chest infections
DS, 11, upwards of 25 I think - many, many chest infections before asthma diagnosis at about 18 months and then maybe 5 chest infections since, tonsilitis about 10 times (he's never made the threshold for having them out, but he's come close some years), balanitis, persistent conjunctivitis, 1 lot of IV antibiotics for a suspected UTI and suspected sepsis. He's generally a lot healthier than that makes him sound, but the first few years were hard going, and the tonsils remain an issue.

Thanks for replies. For those of you Whose children have had multiple rounds, do you feel the anti biotics have have an affect in their over all health??

Also, we had a season where amoxicyllin (sp?) just didn't work. So every time we went I'd say 'no he's not allergic, but it doesn't work' and a new doctor would prescribe him bloody amoxicyllin and I'd be back within the week for something that would shift the infection. Fun times...

Is there a reason you’re asking all these questions?
Sirzy · 03/08/2020 18:42

Personally I quite like the fact they have kept him alive!

Oldraver · 03/08/2020 18:43

DS1 33, Non at all

DS2 13 Non at all

whathaveijustseen · 03/08/2020 18:43

dc2 once for impetigo, dc1 quite a few times for chest infections due to asthma and for dental infections due to on going dental complications after an accident when they were 8

rosiejaune · 03/08/2020 18:43

Once, as a newborn, as a precaution for a mild eye infection, which I was not in agreement with.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 03/08/2020 18:43

Eldest is prone to tonsillitis, and had two or three bouts of the nasty bacterial kind each year up until she was about 15, with the antibiotics to go with.

Middle has had a couple of unpleasant chest infections over the years, and has had antibiotics for them. He also had an infected nail bed recently, and was given a short course to deal with it so that draining could be avoided.

Youngest was poorly as hell for the first five years of his life, and would be on antibiotics four or more times a year. He’s nearly nine now and hasn’t had any for a few years.

Sexnotgender · 03/08/2020 18:43

Absolutely. I doubt my daughter would be here without the antibiotics she’s had.
mbosnz · 03/08/2020 18:46

Well, they prevented my daughters suffering kidney infections and any resulting permanent damage to their kidneys as a result.

They meant they got better far more quickly, and suffered less pain as a result for the chest infections.

Other than that, they're healthy as horses these days, I can't remember when they last had antibiotics. Years ago!

nicknamehelp · 03/08/2020 18:46

Would of lost both mine if not for antibiotics and modern medicine so having them I would say has had a positive effect. No idea how many times each had antibiotics.

Sailingblue · 03/08/2020 18:47

4yo/ one round for a chest infection and the other for a vaginal infection

16m old lots. We had a particularly unlucky winter last year. With one round, she was already very poorly (hospitalised) and she would have been in trouble without antibiotics.

whathaveijustseen · 03/08/2020 18:49

Agree Sirzy, saw you many times on the asthma threads, don't know if dc1 would be here if not for antibiotics so any adverse effects have definitely been outweighed by the benefits

DrCoconut · 03/08/2020 19:14

DS2 quite a lot as he was prone to chest infections and had hospital admissions.

TrulyOutrageousJem · 03/08/2020 19:15

DD - 17 - never

KingOfDogShite · 03/08/2020 19:17

Both had loads as babies as they were premature.

Dd had several courses or antibiotics for ear infections as she had glue ear and had her adenoids out. She also had a course for an infected ear piercing at 9 ish.

Ds hasn’t had any that I can recall.

KingOfDogShite · 03/08/2020 19:20

Oh and regarding the ongoing health think a they are both in fine form now. Ds has crap teeth die to the antibiotics I had during the pregnant and his NICU phase. Better shit teeth than dead though hey.
