And to be super nosy, what they were for.

@Goinghometocallie of course I think they affected my childrens health, they massively improved it. I've lived in places where antibiotics weren't generally available. People (and esp children) died of all sorts of things that dont even register as a big deal here.

123456abcd · 03/08/2020 22:05

DS is 17 = none, as far as I can rememberGrin.

Longtalljosie · 03/08/2020 22:05

Both kids with conjunctivitis once which in retrospect I think was just snot.

DD1 is 10 and has had strep throat 3 times.
DD2 I don’t think has had strep throat yet.

sanityisamyth · 03/08/2020 22:07

DS6 has had them once for an earache so far

Bluewavescrashing · 03/08/2020 22:07

About 5 times each, bronchiolitis, croup, ear infections etc. Age 9 and 6.

I was given bloody antibiotics upwards of 25 times by their age and I blame my mother for my totally shite immune system. She still tells me to get them if I ever have a cold, which is all the time as I'm a teacher. I'm really cross about it actually.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 03/08/2020 22:12

A handful of times each? For ear and / or throat infections. Especially Ds1 as a baby / toddler for his ears. Ds2 had croup a few times, and definitely had steroids, maybe antibiotics as well?

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 03/08/2020 22:17

DS1 - once for a chest infection, aged 4
DS2 - once for scarlet fever, I think he was 3

OhTheRoses · 03/08/2020 22:19

DS: By 16 months.

2 x cheat infection by 4 months (week after each immunisation). After 3rd DTP admitted to hospital for a week with severe bronchiolitis.

At about 7 months the ear infections started. And repeated, and repeated and included a 6 week course of ABs during which he got ........ an ear infection. At 15 months and got grommets. And recovered.

UTI at about 3 and got an long course of trimethoprin and a kidney scan! All fine

At about 8 two burst ear drums and two more lots. Don't think he's had any since.

DD bad ears too. Probably about 8-11 until grommetted at 20 months. Total turnaround.

I think at about three because she got a Barbie kitchen for taking them.

At about 5 due to an abscess on a tooth that had to be removed - then a bitten tongue and bacterial ulcer - don't get me onto children's dentistry.

At about 6.5 due to chest infection.

At about 14 due to tonsillitis.

They have grown up quite robust and sturdy.

anothermansmother · 03/08/2020 22:19

Ds zero by 10 (and still zero at 13)
Dd between 40 and 50, she was very ill as a baby and then had recurring tonsillitis ( and quinsy, before tonsil removal at 7. You name it she had it.

Mothermorph · 03/08/2020 22:19

Dd (14) has had some once fof an ear infection when she was about 9 or 10.
DS (10) about 3 times for chest infections when he was a toddler and once for an infection in his nose.

justanotherneighinparadise · 03/08/2020 22:20

Once when he had pneumonia.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 03/08/2020 22:23

Only about once each, can't really remember. One strep infection and one splinter that got infected and needed IV antibiotics plus oral antibiotics for a week.

ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 03/08/2020 22:30

At birth- meconium in waters

At about 9 months old - preventative for a dog bite.

2 and a half - chest infection

5 - ear infection.

She's 9 now and hasn't had any since 5. Her health is fine, if not better than most. Bless her, she's always in when half the class is dying from something or other.

streamlinedcaverns · 03/08/2020 22:31

Quite a few because they still gave antibiotics for ear infections when mine were children.

Bunnybigears · 03/08/2020 22:32

DS1 never had them and he is 13 now
DS2 twice once for impetigo and once for an infected chicken pox spot on the sole of his foot.

SandieCheeks · 03/08/2020 22:34

@corythatwas

Dd had her first round when she was a tiny baby as she had an infection in her finger. Several more over the next few years for ear infections in particular, later on also UTIs.

One of her teeth did not develop any enamel which the doctor ascribed to illness/antibiotics when she was little. A pity, but then we couldn't let her die from sepsis just so she could keep her teeth pretty.

My child had the same enamel issue and has only had antibiotics twice, both times well after the teeth were through.
Florrieboo · 03/08/2020 22:35

12 year old once when he was under 12 months for a rash or something as far as I remember.
11 year old never.
8 year old twice, once for an ear infection and once for a tooth thing.

Interestingly the 8 year old was the only one who was breastfed and has had the most antibiotics.

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 03/08/2020 22:36

From the age of 18 months - 3 years numerous times as constant ear infections then he had grommets and was fine

Once when he was 9 for chest infection

Icanflyhigh · 03/08/2020 22:39

DD1 once - tonsilitis
DD2 twice - tonsilitis
DS never and he's now 8

Fairyliz · 03/08/2020 22:40

Never and they are in their 20’s now. But come to think of it I have never had antibiotics, I thought doctors didn’t like to prescribe them now?

MrsWildermac · 03/08/2020 22:45

DD (7 now), 15 x for ear infections that weren't clearing by themselves, 7 X for tonsillitis, once for a chest infection (which developed post-adenotonsilectomy and grommet insertion). Before that she had IV abx for sepsis, then for two subsequent kidney infections and then more IVs when she had a heminephrectomy. Oh, and another oral lot for scarlet fever and one for cellulitis! It wasn't a fun few years!

Thankfully none for the last two years!

elliejjtiny · 03/08/2020 22:47

ds1 (aged 14) never has. ds2 (12), ds3 (9) and ds4 (7) have had loads. Ds2 and ds3 for their eyes and ds4 for his ears. Ds5 had iv antibiotics at birth when he had sepsis but nothing since.

Horses4 · 03/08/2020 22:49

Couple of time for bronchiolitis very small. Once for a UTI, once to attempt to rebalance her gut and once a month later to treat the resultant cdiff infection. Daughter is 10 and has health issues but not caused by the antibiotics, apart from that one occasion.

Ameliablue · 03/08/2020 22:50

Two maybe once or twice don't really remember the details.
Youngest several times and she's only two and a half - suspected sepsis, prophylactic, shunt infection, tonsillitis, suspected blood infection.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 03/08/2020 22:51

Mainly in babyhood, and only ever amoxicillin. DD is 8 and has had it maybe 4 times, DS in 4 and had then once
