AIBU to take my favourite mug on holiday?

My husband thinks I’m mad. We’re just packing for our Summer holiday to Norfolk, and I’m packing my favourite mug to take with me. The thing is, we all know tea tastes better out of a good mug. And mugs in rental holiday homes are always crap - generally those awful Ikea ones with tiny handles. So sod it, I’m going to take my mug with me. I’m only taking one, I’m not even bringing my afternoon mug (yes, I have different shaped mugs for different times of day, is that just me??)

I know it will increase my enjoyment of this holiday, and we need all the help we can get there as, whilst I love Norfolk, we were meant to be going to Canada 😔

Anyone else take other home comforts with them away on holiday??

YANBU. Take your favourite pillow as well.

ThickFast · 03/08/2020 08:19

I regretted not taking mine when I stayed in an Airbnb recently. All they had was chunky, sloping sided horrors.

Niceandeasy · 03/08/2020 08:19

Goes without saying that is already packed.

One of the true perks of a staycation.... Pack the car with as many luxuries as you like with no need to faff about with a measly 20kg baggage allowance.
Enjoy your holiday. I'm in Norfolk! It is lovely here! Enjoy ☺️

I take 3 mugs on holiday with me. It's really not just you! My morning mug is big and solid, then my day time one which is more rounded. My evening one is a different shape again. I get cross if DH uses the wrong mug and, when we're away, I feel I havent had the right cuppa if it's in the wrong mug. I'm quite sane apart from this, honestly.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 03/08/2020 08:20

We do. Rental cups are always tiny. I drink herbal tea out of pint mugs.

thistimelastweek · 03/08/2020 08:20

Here's wishing the mug a nice holiday.

Niceandeasy · 03/08/2020 08:20

@ThickFast nooo those are the worst. esp if they are also brown and swirly

Also, wtf I’d with those ikea ones?! Who invented those? Take your afternoon mug too.

Niceandeasy · 03/08/2020 08:22

@Todaythiscouldbe this. is. me.

Lol at brown and swirly. Awful. We even take our nice mugs camping.

UncleShady · 03/08/2020 08:24

I take my mug with me, my special holiday mug that i went out and bought after we ended up somewhere that only had espresso sized cups and DH brought me 4 of them lined up like shots and even that wasn't enough. Next year I'm going to take a pint glass for water as well, having also fallen victim to only having teeny tiny water glasses too.

Routinely pack scissors, paring knife, potato peeler and chopping board.

Niceandeasy · 03/08/2020 08:25

@thistimelastweek tbh the mug is still a little pissed it’s not going to Canada, but will get over it by 2025 probably

I usually take a decent frying pan and knife as well, can't be dealing with spending the entire holiday nearly cutting my own fingers off or having to concentrate extra hard to make a cooked breakfast. I love cooking, it's not a chore to cook on holiday - UNLESS I have to cook with crap equipment.

SerenDippitty · 03/08/2020 08:30

Hairdryer - the ones provided are rarely very good.

Champagne flutes, cheap ones - again never provided.

TeaAndTrifle · 03/08/2020 08:32

Thank you for this post Smile We're off on holiday today and I am definitely now packing my mug!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 03/08/2020 08:35

Don't do we did though... Took kettle, teabags and mugs to Disneyland Paris. We forgot to bring the kettle home. It was our spare one (with European plug), but it was still annoying. Especially since our proper kettle decided to chose that week to die.

BarbaraofSeville · 03/08/2020 08:37

YANBU, take what you can if you're going by car, whatever makes your stay more comfortable to you.

I'll never understand why holiday rentals never have decent mugs, it's not like they're expensive. We even buy cheap mugs when on holiday abroad so we can have a proper sized drink in the morning. It's worth a euro or two during the first shopping trip of the holiday to be able to have a full sized cup of tea or coffee instead of a thimble full.

I take mine, and my pillow too!

There is nothing worse than small cups and flat pillows.
