To think Boris has got what he always wanted?

Boris has been vocal on his admiration for Churchill, he grew up wanting to be a PM, he wanted to be remembered like Churchill, he wanted to make history. Without doubt he's done it, there has been no one since Churchill who has done as much to fill history books. OK so he wanted to Get Brexit Done rather than a pandemic and I know that's out of his hands but isn't this the biggest lesson in 'be careful what you wish for?'

The only history he'll make is for being the biggest most incompetent arse to ever hold the highest office in the land.

Today he has made his brother a peer. Embarrassing.

Agreed
chipsandpeas · 31/07/2020 18:25

hes fucked this whole thing up

mornington222 · 31/07/2020 18:25

If his brother had been Prime Minister thousands more people would be alive today.

Regulus · 31/07/2020 18:33

But imagine school children 50 years from now doing British Politics. What he has done has changed the course of our nation. I sadly can't remember who said (and couldn't find on Google) that Boris wanted to be Prime Minister, he wanted to have been Prime Minister, it's the bit in the middle he had difficulty with.

Have you forgotten about Thatcher?, Tony Blair perhaps?

Presumably you are referring to PMs when you say 'no one'.

netflixismysidehustle · 31/07/2020 18:34

To be a Churchill you need to make decisions and lead. Johnson's decisions are made by Cummings and his constant turns and lack of confidence is troubling. If he'd quit after being hospitalized he would have had a more respectable personal legacy.

netflixismysidehustle · 31/07/2020 18:36

No child of the future will buy that a person who talks like Johnson is a leader.
At best he'll be remembered as the guy who suggested singing Happy Birthday when washing your hands and using the Nando's scale to explain the current Covid situation . (Lots of TikToks and memes about this)

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 31/07/2020 18:40

I’m pretty confident that he will be remembered, but for his lies, incompetence, laziness, poor parenting and sexual incontinence rather than anything positive.

History will remember him for exactly what he is: a shiftless, Etonian networker who led us through the worst death toll during a worldwide pandemic despite our numerous advantages as a nation. Oh, and for being the Prime Minister who put his advisor above all else and lost the confidence of the British public as a result.

Hands, face, space.... arse, dark, both hands more like.

Yes, just buying illegal water cannon, spaffing millions up the wall in a non-existent bridge, offering to help with a hit on a journalist, lying about how much money the nhs would get, filing lies about European laws, failing to take responsibility for the children he may or may not have, the total lack of dignity displayed at the olympics in Beijing and on the zip wire in London......quite a personal legacy
VeryQuaintIrene · 31/07/2020 18:47

He'll go down in history, quite likely, but not for the reasons that Churchill did.

Chuly · 31/07/2020 18:50

He's got exactly what he wished for, and getting exactly what he deserves.

There ain't gonna be many statues, imo.

thistimelastweek · 31/07/2020 18:55

Let's not forget his great oratory skills.

mornington222 · 31/07/2020 18:57

He 'got Brexit done' by selling the people of Northern Ireland out. Yes, the leader of the Conservative and Unionist party.

lljkk · 31/07/2020 18:57

Churchill Xed the floor to be part of Liberal party for a while, didn't he? Not very BoJo like thing to do.

FreiasBathtub · 31/07/2020 19:03

@Regulus that was Marina Hyde I think. Bang on the money, as usual.

PhilSwagielka · 31/07/2020 19:04

I'll say one thing positive about Thatcher: she was competent. And she contained the crazies in the Tory party. Cameron and Johnson have let them get out of control.

IpanemaSunshine · 31/07/2020 19:06

At least Churchill was his own man, Johnson is controlled by an unelected, dangerous individual who helped him get to where he is by riding on a populist wave of lies and sound bites.

Yiayoula · 31/07/2020 19:07

AllTheWhoresIOfMalta - agree with you 100%. You have expressed it much more eloquently , and elegantly , than I could have done !

PerkingFaintly · 31/07/2020 19:11

Shock I'd missed that.

Fuck me that's mortifying.

lljkk · 31/07/2020 19:12

Churchill doesn't seem remotely like Johnson.

Churchill was in the military a lot. Was a member of the Liberal Party for 20 yrs.

To think Boris has got what he always wanted?

PerkingFaintly · 31/07/2020 19:15

Sorry, I actually had to go and check that – not because I thought you were lying but... really... that's unbelievable.

Mind you, I say it's mortifying: it would be for anyone who had a shred of self-respect or integrity.

So, won't raise a flicker of embarrassment for the Johnson bros.

PerkingFaintly · 31/07/2020 19:20

I thought David Cameron was the name Eton College would be shamefacedly placing a large ornament to conceal, if the school has a nameboard of "old Etonians who became Prime Minister".

But they're gonna need considerably bigger buns.

KenAdams · 31/07/2020 19:29

Boris plan was the deliver Brexit once Teresa had done the contentious work, be Prime Minster whilst it happened so he could go down in history as the man who delivered what he said he would then sail off into the sunset to "concentrate on his new family" leaving somebody else to pick up the pieces of a failing economy. It all seemed very temporary. Then the pandemic hit, he caught COVID and all his best laid plans went out the window.

Littlemeadow123 · 31/07/2020 19:34

His speeches will never be remembered like Churchill's.

With Churchill we got "We will fight them in the streets, we will fight them on the beaches," etc etc. A famous and very good speech.

With Boris Johnson. "Go out. Don't go out. Go to work. Don't go to work.".

He will be remembered as being prime minister during covid, but I don't think the history books will be singing his praises.
