In my own little world.
Mask in bag.
Walked in.
Noticed a few funny looks.
Went to the salad counter.
Girl behind is looking at me funny.
It took me 10 mins to realise I didn't have my mask on my bloody face.
Has anyone else forgot yet ?
Or am I just totally useless

You won’t be the only one. Nor is it likely to have made a difference. Just remember next time!

cariadlet · 01/08/2020 16:57

Dp and dd popped into town last week. 5 minutes later I texted dd to check that they'd remembered to take masks with them. She texted back to say that dp was walking back to the house to pick up a couple from the bowl in the hall.

When they got home she told me that when they got to the shop and went to put them on, they found that he'd managed to pick up one mask and one packet of filters. 🙄
@ilovesooty
My point was that it was not dangerous to sit near strangers without a mask and eat but it is dangerous to pass by strangers at a supermarket.
I have no simptoms, don't cough or sneeze on people so I am not a risk to anyone like I was not a risk before the 25th of July.
You're selfish and irresponsible whatever you say.

swampytiggaa · 01/08/2020 17:11

I work in a supermarket. I often get back onto the shop floor then realise I’m not wearing a mask 😷

Retired65 · 01/08/2020 17:26

Our Morrisons have disposable masks to hand out at the entrance if you have forgotten to bring one with you.

FloydWasACat · 01/08/2020 18:02

How has no one else spotted this yet??

Aroundtheworldin80moves

^^Thanks to this I just went to retrieve mom from the clean washing to put in my bag for tomorrow. Couldn't find it anywhere... Just found it inside my duvet cover...which was three washes later!

I’ve not forgotten a mask yet, but for some reason it confuses me about my sunglasses, I keep leaving them on throughout the shop until I slowly realise I can’t see properly.

Sennetti · 01/08/2020 18:18

Those who are washing them in the washing machine..... are you ok wearing them and inhaling the washing powder residues?

Anyone worried about what we are all inhaling? Are we going to have a run of respiratory and throat cancers in a few years off the back of this?

They have been compulsory in Scotland for a couple of weeks now. I keep a pack of disposable masks (both adult and child size) in my car for emergencies. I like my cloth masks the best but the disposables do in a pinch.

aquamarine2 · 01/08/2020 19:04

i work in a shop and we are not allowed to say anything if people dont wear a mask. it is so annoying because i want to refuse to serve them unless when challenged, they have a valid reason....

Frownette · 01/08/2020 19:09

OP you're really not the only one, I was on my way to the supermarket couple of days ago and realised I'd forgotten one and nipped behind a tree, took off my thin white cotton tee and tied that around my face then buttoned up my jacket.

I'm not paying £100.

Does anyone else find they develop a favourite one?

Whycantibetangy · 01/08/2020 19:11

I went for my first post lockdown wax last week, forgot mask so spent the entire time with a fleecy headband I found in the back of the car stretched around my face. It just about did the job but was ridiculously hot

DanceItOut · 01/08/2020 19:12

A lot of places have signs up saying “forgot your mask? Ask one of our team” and provide you with a disposable one. Not all shops of course but a lot of big places are. There was some debate about whether my 8 year old could enter the shop without one yesterday (she actually does have one I made with Disney material but she dropped it and lost it) because although the government says she doesn’t have to the shops can make their own decision about policies they feel are necessary as well so I said I was happy for her to wear a disposable one if they had one she could use and they did because they decided it was just easier to give her one of their disposable ones than figure out what the correct course of action was regarding government policy versus store policy.

mbosnz · 01/08/2020 19:15

From having a sanitary pad in my purse in case of emergencies, I now have added a disposable mask. And have already had to give it away, lol. (In it's wrapping, using disposable gloves).

Happens to us all, Just a whole new way to be caught short. . .

Banj0girl · 01/08/2020 19:17

People are staring at me because I have a mask with trains on !
I was in Lidl's yesterday. Everyone had a mask but one guy's idea of a mask was a folded hanky tied around his head over his nose. A cough or a sneeze, or even loud talking would just lift the corners up !

Dillydallyingthrough · 01/08/2020 19:20

I have them in my glove compartment, handbag and coat pocket as I have had to drive home to get it. Went into Tesco this morning, around 40 people in there, only around 5-6 had them on (including me and DD) it's unlikely that everyone else was exempt. I'm not surprised the numbers are rising, the numbers that are exempt are very small yet so many are not wearing them. And those that say they aren't coughing so why should they wear one, surely people aren't that stupid and know that some people dont any symptoms. Really wish there was an official exemption card so all the irresponsible idiots could be fined.

EggysMom · 01/08/2020 19:22

All I can say is that there is a high rate of exemption, I'd say almost 50%, amongst the shoppers in my local Asda ...

I forgot when halfway to the local kebab shop - turned round, came back to the house to grab a mask, and then continued to the kebab shop. Found that no other customers (there were 3 others waiting) were wearing a mask, and neither were any of the people shopping at the local shop next door (I watched whilst waiting outside for my kebab!)

Starlightstarbright1 · 01/08/2020 19:28

I walked half way round a shop with it in my hand . I got it out so I didn’t forget . I clearly wasn’t exempt because I was carrying bone but the lady on the door didn’t say anything.

wanderings · 01/08/2020 19:29

@Noextremes2017

We were told for months that wearing masks makes absolutely no difference. Then the same people said we must all wear masks. They call themselves scientists and experts. The reality is they have not got a **ing clue what they are talking about. They are making it all up as they go along. They all need to go back where they came from - academic obscurity.
The above is why some people are anti-mask. Some people think that health is the least of Boris's reasons for mandating them: rather he wants to be seen to be doing something. It's very telling that the government gave no explanation as to why they were suddenly making them compulsory, having previously dismissed them, hoping we'd forgotten this. The rule about wearing in them in shops looks as if it was thrown in to try to bribe people back into the shops. It's very probable that extending it to museums and places of worship was a knee-jerk reaction to go with yesterday's "squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze the brakes" announcement. I think it also suits the government when people have something to squabble about, and masks are something very visual indeed with which to get the mob frothing.
Gingaaarghpussy · 01/08/2020 20:09

I walked into a shop today, with my mask under my chin. A lady very kindly reminded me I had forgotten it.
I have absolutely no problem wearing a mask in shops, I just won't have it over my face when I'm outside.

scrambledbrain618 · 01/08/2020 20:27

i always wear my mask , but on the very first compulsary day i went in co-op with my mask on !!! but with it under my chin (ready to pull up) had lots of strange looks , couldn't understand why until i got out of the shop x

Flaxmeadow · 01/08/2020 20:32

OP I've just commented about this on another thread
No you are not alone in doing this. I've done it twice now. Totally forgot to put the mask on and I even had my hand in my pocket where it was. Some reminder signs by shop doors would help
