To leave Greater Manchester Lockdown to stay in self contained accommodation in another area.

Bishybarnybee · 30/07/2020 21:49

Rising numbers of cases in Greater Manchester and new restrictions - no mingling of households.

Holiday booked for Saturday - self contained accommodation in another part of England.

We've been meticulous about masks, handwashing etc.

Are we unreasonable to still go?

OP, I can’t see anything in the news that says you are banned from taking a holiday outside of those areas. I suspect it is aimed at those celebrating Eid in the next day or so. Unless there is further advice closing down workplaces, shops etc. and ‘no travel’ directives, there is no reason why you shouldn’t go. Enjoy your holiday, OP.

ChicCroissant · 30/07/2020 22:38

Well from what I've read, only meetings indoors in the NW are mentioned, not anywhere else.

Is it just your family that are going away, OP? Because I don't see anything that would stop you doing that.

Can't remember the exact figures but this is what happened in Wuhan and why the virus spread. Lockdown was announced and over 3M people legged it, spreading the virus as they went

StatisticalSense · 30/07/2020 22:40

@safariboot
You have no idea whether any individual is at higher risk of having the virus. While it is true that on average people living in areas with a higher prevalence will be at higher risk the same cannot be said of individuals. The probability as to whether somebody has the virus is as much down to lifestyle factors as it is down to location. Someone in these areas but who has only left the house to go food shopping once a week and for daily outside exercise is almost certainly less likely to have the virus than someone in London who works in a pub and has visited the gym each day this week as well as having a few coffees in starbucks and costa with different friends on the way to work.

GilderoyLockdown · 30/07/2020 22:40

@CalmYoBadSelf

I'm appalled at some of the answers, very much in a "rules don't apply to me" mould. This thinking is one of the reasons the UK has far greater virus spread than other countries
What rule would OP going on holiday break?
Bishybarnybee · 30/07/2020 22:41

The vote is 50 : 50 at the moment, what if I go and OH stays behind?

Kidding, obviously.....

Oh, I was so looking forward to it.

Greater Manchester is nearly 3 million people - so all ten boroughs are to avoid second households/gardens from midnight: Is that correct?
Am I right in thinking I can still have a gardener around if I can get one and attend premade optician appointments?

KaleJuicer · 30/07/2020 22:42

I've just been watching the rolling BBC news for the last hour @Bishybarnybee I can't see any guidance saying you can't drive out of the area. I would go on holiday as you planned (following all the appropriate guidance about social distancing etc).

IKEA888 · 30/07/2020 22:43

as long as it's your family you live with going and you aren't mixing inside then why not

Iamtooknackeredtorun · 30/07/2020 22:43

Can't remember the exact figures but this is what happened in Wuhan and why the virus spread. Lockdown was announced and over 3M people legged it, spreading the virus as they went

That's a reasonable comparison Hmm

BreathlessCommotion · 30/07/2020 22:45

Seriously go, it isn't against the new rules. You'd be bonkers not to.

Also by dad is in the shielding group and he's currently on holiday in Greece (because the holiday wasn't cancelled and he said he's got to live as well as stay alive)

Abetes · 30/07/2020 22:46

The guidance doesn’t prohibit leaving the area so I would still go.

PhilSwagielka · 30/07/2020 22:46

OP, as far as I'm aware it's not against the rules, so you're OK to go.

Fairylightsdreamer · 30/07/2020 22:47

Apologies just re read the new guidance. Are there any actual rules regarding travelling? If not just be careful and mindful that you’re travelling from a higher risk area.

Viviennemary · 30/07/2020 22:47

This is the most idiotic set of instructions so far. And nobody is going to listen because it's getting very silly and illogical.

justdoityourself · 30/07/2020 22:47

Oh, I was so looking forward to it.

Why are you not going? They have not said you can't travel!

TheLegendOfZelda · 30/07/2020 22:48

Why would you base your decisions on mumsnet? So strange. You could at least base it on government guidance - it's fine - or on a general concept of travel during a pandemic - not fine. But why base it on the opinions of randomers online?

This is all about Eid anyway. Bit last minute.

itsaratrap · 30/07/2020 22:48

No, you really shouldn’t. What if thousands did the same? Before you know it, numbers are up everywhere and we’re heading back to where we started in March.

mynameisigglepiggle · 30/07/2020 22:49

Usual government knee jerk reaction with announcement made, all expected to comply but with absolutely no guidance!!! It's beyond a joke.

pandafunfactory · 30/07/2020 22:49

You still can look forward to it op. You can still go without breaking any rules. It's fine.

PrimalLass · 30/07/2020 22:50

You are fine to go. Just keep to yourself and wear masks etc.

Frazzled2207 · 30/07/2020 22:51

Of course. Nothing specific said (yet) about travel it’s about households (not) mixing.

All ok in my eyes.

snappycamper · 30/07/2020 22:52

@doodleygirl

There is nothing in the restrictions to say you cant travel
This. Enjoy your holiday OP
Luckylau · 30/07/2020 22:53

You should go on holiday. Greater Manchester is a huge area and I feel all of it has been included to ensure there is no claims of cherry picking "conservative areas" to be outside of lockdown. The numbers have risen but so has testing and its Eid tomorrow which has to have played a part in decision making.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 30/07/2020 22:54

We are doing this.. they havent said you can't leave your house or travel just households cannot mix
