I've ordered another 8 and have my eye on another 5 pack....when in reality how many reusable ones do I need...am I getting obsessed?

I can't even leave the house without one in my bag due to current rules so I guess it's not a bad thing!

A relative who sews a lot used up all her odds and ends of material and made us half a dozen each. My daughter thinks it's hilarious that two of mine are made from the same fabric as some dresses the relative previously made for her Barbie dolls Grin

OnTheFencePaint · 30/07/2020 22:07

Just 2 reusable ones each. I wear one maybe twice a week in a shop/takeaway for 10 mins, DH the same. (They are not washed after every wear if I’m being honest.)

But do they match?!

elQuintoConyo · 30/07/2020 22:08

Me:
Red paisley
Pink paisley
Pale blue/turquoise batic
Grey/red flowers
Blue forget me nots
Leopard

DS:
Red IKEA hippos (fabric c.2010)
Old lime green t-shirt with skull and crossbones skateboarding
Plain grey t-shirt
Fire engines + paraphernalia
Navy blue with JCBs
Various transport

DH:
Black with grey stars
Jazzy 80s print of lines

All homemade, take 30 minutes each, 7" of elastic for each ear, DS' have a long loop so he can hang it round his neck if he's drinking/eating so it doesn't get lost.

I've also made a stack for family/friends, and a stack for donating.

I like checking out other people's masks when I'm out and about, and I'm jumping over discarded blue disposable ones that have been dropped/chucked on the floor

No disposables.

Aragog · 30/07/2020 22:09

I currently have three washable reusable masks, plus a neck gaitor style with filters. On order I have another 5 due to arrive this week.

Dd has 2 plus the neck gaitor. Dh has 1 plus the neck gaitor.

They are looking at some new ones to order too.

We've been away abroad where we have had to wear masks every day, rinsing them out overnight, so feel we need extra if that's the way it'll be in England when we get home.

megletthesecond · 30/07/2020 22:09

Me and the dc's have 8 reusable masks each.

I've also got a box of disposables just in case.

Megan2018 · 30/07/2020 22:09

2 fabric ones. They take no time to wash and dry. They live in the car and nappy bag.
We do have a box of disposable too but don’t intend to use.

terracottapot · 30/07/2020 22:10
  1. One in my handbag and three in the door pocket in my car.

I've barely been anywhere yet to wear one, apart from a few trips to the newsagent and one visit to the petrol station. I've barely worn it for more than a couple of minutes at a time so far (thank god) so I'm still using the first one. It's a total waste of time throwing it away, I've only touched the elastics.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 30/07/2020 22:10

20 black manmade fabric ones
5 cotton ones from Etsy
2 hats with visors
Pack of the gaitor type ones on order (6 I think)
Couple of meters of fabric that I might make in to face masks. One day.

If anyone is looking to buy cotton ones, I tried several makers from Etsy. these ones were incredibly well made, good quality fabric and adjustable

OddestSock · 30/07/2020 22:11

@elfycat, can I ask if you remember where you got your aardvark fabric from? My 10 year old may actually wear a mask if need be if it has aardvarks on (by far her favourite animal) xx

Lovely1a2b3c · 30/07/2020 22:11

Several boxes of type IIR fluid-resistant face masks and a box of FFP3 masks in case we have to go for hospital appointments.

Iamnuts · 30/07/2020 22:14

Look on etsy for *different masks. There are thousands of different designs :》

Lovely1a2b3c · 30/07/2020 22:14

Also re-useable masks look prettier but IIR surgical masks are more effective at preventing the spread of Covid to others and limiting your exposure to other people.

BiarritzCrackers · 30/07/2020 22:15

The Liberty ones work out at £8 each, so I don't think that's a bad price at all, given they are triple layered. I've got various tana lawn offcuts lying around waiting for small projects, and am intending to make myself a batch over the next few days. I have a couple of plain bought masks I'm using at the moment, but intend to embrace mask fashion - we have to get our joys where we can these days!

cariadlet · 30/07/2020 22:15

A couple of dozen reusable ones. They've all got a couple of layers so that you can put a filter or tissue in. Mostly just plain black from Amazon but I've got a couple of pretty ones.

I keep them in a bowl in the Hall, in separate little bags so that anyone can grab a couple on their way out. Dd will be back in college in September and catching a train to the next town so she'll need at least 2 a day. They go straight in the laundry basket once they've been worn and I don't want to end up putting a wash on just for a few masks which is why I ended up buying so many.

I think it's depressing how many people are buying disposable ones; it's so wasteful and bad for the environment. Plus it must work out more expensive in the long run.

Oysterbabe · 30/07/2020 22:16

I have 1 that lives in my handbag, that's it.

lljkk · 30/07/2020 22:17

All fabric. 3 my aunt made & sent, 10 that a local person sells for £2 each. Plus neck buffs. Household of 5-6 people. It's plenty.

FlamedToACrisp · 30/07/2020 22:18

I have two. I don't think they're washable, as they are only made of delicate foam, so I just re-wear them. I stay in my house/garden most of the time and only go out about once every two weeks to the corner shop, so I figure any germs have probably worn off by then.

Dahlietta · 30/07/2020 22:18

I have 5, all different types of reusable.

Norugratsatall · 30/07/2020 22:20

Just one! Wear it for 20 mins once a week when food shopping. Have worn it a grand total of twice so far! 😊

BogRollBOGOF · 30/07/2020 22:21

I'm just using my existing buffs.
That's enough to maintain the performance of virtuously protecting the world from my non-existant Covid.

I'm keeping an eye on local data and the big picture as well as being sensible about where I go and who I meet. At present the odds of hyperventilating or panic attacks trying to wear something more substantial far outweighs my risk of Covid exposure.

Haggardy · 30/07/2020 22:23

I got 7 from boden. 1 was plain, 1 was an acceptable pattern, the rest I've dyed black. They fit really well and have the metal nose thing that stops your glasses steaming up.

BiddyPop · 30/07/2020 22:24

I had 3 disposables and now have the remains of a box sposies after Cubs used hardly any (most brought their own).

I made 3 for myself (and a few each for DH and DD), and the ones I ordered in Feb finally arrived in late June so another 8 for DH and I to share (as in, once washed, either can grab them and a fresh filter - not shared once worn).

I will probably make another couple for myself - I started using bias binding ties over my head, and had enough elastic for 1 over my head before I figured best design was over ears. I’ve been making the better ones for family and extended family, so I should hopefully get to do more for me soon.

I generally wash mine after 2-3 days of using just popping into shops etc. The days I wore them a lot in Parliament, I changed daily. And I have plenty of filters - I ordered 100 and still have about 70, will order more in about 2 weeks so there’s no issue with delivery.

IwishIwasyoda · 30/07/2020 22:27

Can't stand the reusable ones - sticking with disposables - 2 boxes.
