It just seems that no matter how successful a woman is in life, none of it matters, if she isnt slim (and preferably pretty too)

And, Online forums seem to be full of fat haters who are very smug and judgemental

Being morbidly obese will never be healthy...but it deserves compassion. It often stems from trauma. And here's the thing, if you experience trauma or abuse and develop anorexia, people will be falling over themselves with sympathy. If you experience trauma and binge eat, you will be treated with contempt and hate.

But, being very slightly overweight is very easily done without being especially gluttonous or lazy or having any mh problems.

I've seen lots of posts on here over the years where thin women are absolutely vile about anyone larger than them. It's bizarre. I think there is a type of woman for whom being thin is her greatest achievement and who genuinely can't understand that there are women who don't hate themselves if they're overweight.

Have to say I’ve been here for ten years and I haven’t seen that. Of course this an infamous nest of vipers but I honestly couldn’t say I’ve noticed a particular movement of vitriol from thin women against overweight women. There will have been some I’m sure...but notably more so than towards others? I don’t think so.

Yeah, I'm not too keen on stereotyping people based on weight. I was horrifically bullied at school by two very overweight girls. You get unkind people of all weights.

No I don't really think so either.

It's about even stevens between some overweight posters being called lazy/a bit thick and some slim posters being called joyless/accused of pushing lettuce leaves around their plate.

And in the 9 years I've been here, it's always been pretty much the same.

I imagine it is probably easier to get fat and then fatter rather than staying thin. Hence need to preempt future medical issues with this increasingly visible reminder. We Brits tend to jump on American trends and fads as possibly because of the language (and so media) connections despite distance say from our nearer continental European neighbours who seem to work and have similar economic conditions but not such an obesity epidemic as here throughout the UK and commonplace and expected in USA and Mexico etc. Covid has been such an eye opener in some many ways!

Fat shaming is risky ground and possibly imbecile and shortsighted as who knows there is no forever fit and trim guarantee given our evolving lifestyles and eating habits to stay always slim and healthy! I am sure everyone knows somebody who is in need of a bit of respectful encouragement and support to return to a preferred healthier weight and size.
