Why am I getting comments about my weight

Flyingnutsack · 28/07/2020 08:35

I don’t perceive myself as overweight. I am not thin but I am not overweight. I have had comments recently saying I am “quite big” and every time I ask DH if I am slim he says I am “curvy and attractive.” Then he laughs.

I am 5’8 And I weigh 64-65kg from day to day (depending on water retention). I am not lying or deluding myself. These are my numbers.

Does that seem “big” to you?

OP posts:
Thedogscollar · 28/07/2020 08:52

Your BMI is within the normal range. You are definitely not overweight.
People referring to you as "quite big" are extremely rude and perhaps jealous of your enviable body shape. Don't give them a second thought.

Madmoxxi · 28/07/2020 08:53

I'm 5"9 and weigh about the same and consider myself to be slim. Do you carry it in a particular place?

LouiseTrees · 28/07/2020 08:54

Maybe it’s more a shape thing. Would you say shape wise your are either hourglass, pear or apple? All of those aren’t straight up and down so people might say curvy.

LovingLola · 28/07/2020 08:54

Who is commenting?

parrotonmyshoulder · 28/07/2020 08:54

Who the hell says that to you? Just rude.
But why do you ask DH if you’re ‘slim’? What do you expect him to say?

Isthisnothing · 28/07/2020 08:57

You are definitely not big. Who is saying these rude things to you?

dementedpixie · 28/07/2020 08:57

maybe they mean your height rather than your width

SchrodingersImmigrant · 28/07/2020 08:58

Curvy doesn't mean fat, even though some people try to make it so.

You can be slim and curvy.

BlusteryShowers · 28/07/2020 08:58

Who is saying this to you and in what context?

ThisIsGonnaHurt · 28/07/2020 08:59

At 5ft8 I would say that's probably slim? I am 5ft4 and definitely chubby at that weight but I wpuld imagine I would be slim if I was 4 inches taller and the same weight. I dont think you would be skinny at that weight so curvy is probably not a bad description. Quite big seems odd though.

Only thing is that if you are untoned you can look bigger even at a slim weight. Also BMI is a red herring, If i am at a BMI of 24 I look chunky. I look slim at probably a BMI of 21. Would have to be right at the bottom end to look really slim.

RowboatsinDisguise · 28/07/2020 09:01

I can weigh that at 5’6 and people bang on about how I’m really slim! 😂 I think people just like to have something to say!

lljkk · 28/07/2020 09:02

I am same numbers as OP. I call myself curvy bc I'm an hourglass ("voluptuous") not bc I'm fat. Strangers compliment my figure so I think I'm doing something right. Wink

WaltzingBetty · 28/07/2020 09:05

You can't be more than a size 10-12 at that weight so no not big.
What's the context?

Tooshytoshine · 28/07/2020 09:06

I'm 5 5 and weigh that and although not a waif, I think people would describe me as slim. But I think it is about how times you are and your general build. I have big boobs and am quite toned.

Tell them to eff off!

sqirrelfriends · 28/07/2020 09:09

@dementedpixie

maybe they mean your height rather than your width
This is what I was thinking.
PenCreed · 28/07/2020 09:11

If it's height why wouldn't they say "quite tall" though?

That's not big to me - you weigh slightly less than I do and I'm shorter than you! In fact, that's the weight I would like to be. Whoever is saying this to you is weird, and your DH isn't helping.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 28/07/2020 09:13

5'8" and just over 10 stones is slim. BMI shows you are a healthy weight.
Is it that you are very slim in some areas but carrying excess fat in others?
At 5'4" and the same weight I definitely look slim.

Happydaysforever123 · 28/07/2020 09:27

I'm the same height and 4 to 5 kgs lighter than you, but I'm not super slim I'd love to be able to lose a bit of weight off my stomach it is a bit big, but I know it would come off my face and breast. I'd describe myself as curvy not fat, but I've certainly not got a model figure. So you being a bit bigger than me may be a little more curvy.

Happydaysforever123 · 28/07/2020 09:28

Breasts not breast!
You are certainly not overweight op and whoever is saying that is nasty.

Ozgirl75 · 28/07/2020 09:29

I’m 5ft 4 and that weight and wear size 10/12 and look pretty normal - not overweight at all but I am curvy in that I wear a 34D bra and have an hourglass figure.
Honestly though in 42 years I don’t think a single person has ever commented on my weight (hence I think I’m pretty normal) so it’s weird that you’re getting multiple comments on what is a normal, fairly slim weight!

Didntwanttochangemyname · 28/07/2020 09:30

I'm the same height as you but 75kg, I comfortably fit size 10 jeans, and often get told I look slim /skinny.

The comments you are getting do not make sense, at that weight and height you can't be anything but slim.

Didntwanttochangemyname · 28/07/2020 09:31

I think the problem lies with your DH, not your weight.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 28/07/2020 09:32

@Didntwanttochangemyname

I think the problem lies with your DH, not your weight.
I don't see why DH is the problem...
Dixiechickonhols · 28/07/2020 09:34

Do they mean big = tall. My mum uses that and I don’t like it. My teen DD is 5ft 10 and my mum says she is big she’s not she’s tall (size 10)

SmileyClare · 28/07/2020 09:37

Perhaps the person commenting "you're quite big" means a big frame? Tall, big feet, hands etc.. the opposite of petite?

I can't imagine the context where this might come up in conversation though! It's pretty rude. Something a child might say.. You're happy as you are so don't over think it.

Alternatively, are your scales broken? Grin
