To worry when 10yr DD went for an early run alone

My DD woke me early this morning saying she was going for a run and left. She kept to our road and was back in half hour. Is this ok? Just seems unusual behaviour? She hasn’t done this before and doesn’t run usually as a sport.

Stroke I missed that utter gem 😁

I wonder if Bates is Plymouth Brethren or similar. I have literally never met a family with those rules either during my own childhood (rural 70s/80s) or Dds now (small nice city). Just extraordinary. Even on my French exchange at 14 with French strict parents we were allowed out and about!

jessstan2 · 27/07/2020 22:36

@midnightstar66

Wow at the fact anyone even tries to restrict what their 18 year old child dies and that they are just getting to go to the cinema for the first time. My 10 year old has been to the cinema with our 13 year old neighbour!
Yes. I went to the pictures with a friend at 11! Why not?
jessstan2 · 27/07/2020 22:38

@PablosHoney

It’s not odd, I’d have died of embarrassment at 18 if I wasn’t allowed to have the freedom the the majority of other young adults are afforded, it’s just so so odd.
Well, at 18 they can do what they please anyway, they are adults. However most have been doing it for years!
PablosHoney · 27/07/2020 22:39

Not in the Bates Motel they can’t 😂😂

jessstan2 · 27/07/2020 22:44

Bateshotel, I just don't get the 'with cousins' business; what would you do if there were no cousins or if cousins lived miles away? Or rather, what would your children do?

MsTSwift · 27/07/2020 22:47

Dd would be stuffed if we had cousins only rule dh and I both eldest in our families she would be doomed to hang out with 11 year olds and younger who live miles away anyway - which would go down well..not...much healthier surely for your child to have their own local friends they’ve picked themselves?

My DD at 20 did this. Still does at 14. It's pretty sporadic. We live nowhere though.

Wallywobbles · 27/07/2020 23:00

FFS 10 not 20

PablosHoney · 27/07/2020 23:03

Is he also your cousin? 😂😂😂 sorry couldn’t resist, you both have a very distinct world view and it is unusual but I hope it works out for all of you.

Nicknacky · 27/07/2020 23:04

Ah, a man has spoken to tell us we are all wrong.

Bateshotel what you are doing is most definitely unusual. Maybe this thread will show you that it’s ok to let your teens go out with friends rather than be confined to home.

PablosHoney · 27/07/2020 23:05

He is the leader of the cult 😉

Blacknosugarplease · 27/07/2020 23:05

I just don't understand why you think shes gone for a run, the fact she left so quickly shows she was being deceitful

Hmm whaaat? Catch yourself on

It is possible to have “a happy loving home and clear boundaries” AND to allow your child to have their own separate life with their friends - without mummy on their back the whole time organising it all you know.

Nicknacky · 27/07/2020 23:08

Because you have tried to give your comments credibility by saying your husband also agrees.

You didn’t answer though, why can’t your kids go to the cinema with their friends? What’s your fear?

PablosHoney · 27/07/2020 23:09

I’m guessing it’s the assumption that him thinking we had two heads would mean anything, of course he agrees with you.

I have a 10 year old. I could imagine her doing this. In fact she was outside skateboarding the other morning at a similar time (we live in a fairly quiet road).
It seems ok to me that your DD is testing out her independence and trying something new.
And to whoever criticised the OP for being asleep at 7.30am please get a grip or a hobby or something.

Bateshotel So genuinely, what’s your fear with the cinema etc?

PablosHoney · 27/07/2020 23:11

I’m sorry but it made me laugh 😂 the whole scenario does.

PablosHoney · 27/07/2020 23:11

I should hope you do!
