To think mask wearing is going to wear thin before long ?

I’ve already noticed people starting to flag in Scotland. In Tesco today I was bored shitless doing the weekly shop and counting 20 people with masks on Chins and under noses. Kids using them as hankies 🤢. I heard also the government might be advising glove wearing. I imagine this is going to start to become very impractical for some people and they’ll just not bother / or bother going out. My DH is exempt from mask wearing and he went out without today expecting some comments but not a peep from anyone! Also the one way aisles have been removed too meaning more folk all crammed in to a small space not socially distant. I overheard a couple saying “ what’s the point wearing masks when we are so close anyway?”

@HeIenaDove

We are wearing masks STOP GASLIGHTING
Precisely.
BlackPetunia · 26/07/2020 21:10

yes @BelleSausage you are starting to sound a tad over invested!

@TrustTheGeneGenie

Based on ALL the threads I’ve seen you on I suspect you aren’t arguing in good faith.

But, for the last time, I’ll explain. The governments only focus is stopping hospitals from being overwhelmed while keeping the economy going.

To do this they are going to be forced to close schools if there is evidence that they are hubs for transmission, as in Leicester (not the main hubs but certainly contributing). Otherwise local hospitals will be overwhelmed.

If you want YOUR schools in YOUR area to stay open, wear a mask when you go into local shops. Otherwise you could unknowingly be part of spreading the virus and creating a new cluster.

Aridane · 26/07/2020 21:12

I work in retail and people are coming in wearing masks but then take them off to speak to us , we are also providing masks at the door and people take one and just carry it around in their hand .

🙄

mbosnz · 26/07/2020 21:12

'Pipe down', 'calm down sweetheart' - we don't really need men to patronise us do we? We do it so well to each other.

PablosHoney · 26/07/2020 21:13

I don’t believe in the history of the world that being told to calm down calmed anyone down 😂

What? Arguing in good faith? Is that code for lying?

I do wear a mask where I am obliged to.... What is your point?

KilljoysDutch · 26/07/2020 21:18

I'm exempt, I have asthma but I've been wearing a mask for months.

"Excuse me if I don't particularly feel fond of the "protecting others" narrative right now because actually lots of others are total arseholes."

What a load of bull, you don't give a shit because it doesn't directly affect you, yet. What a sad selfish life you're living refusing to protect others because you think they're arseholes but in reality it's that which makes you the arsehole and I'll still wear my mask to protect you.

midnightstar66 · 26/07/2020 21:18

Everyone here (North Edinburgh) is wearing one and not making a fuss. It's a minor inconvenience for most. I use a snood as I can wear it round my neck and just pull it up. No big hardship there's a chance it will make a difference

Doesn't directly affect me yet? You know that for a fact do you?

I'm not refusing to do anything. I do wear a mask.

Do I care about arseholes on the internet who shout at others and pretend they are sooooo much better than everyone else and pretend disabilities aren't real and shame others? Nah. Still no.

molington · 26/07/2020 21:22

I have been wearing a mask for months, have made them for all of my immediate family and don’t find it a big deal.

I wear a mask to minimise the risk to others and appreciate it when others show the same courtesy to me.

Just get on with it for all our sakes

goose1964 · 26/07/2020 21:28

I've been wearing my mask like a good girl, but I've found that it shops,like Primark, are too hot I feel faint. It's the only shop that made me feel like that , if I felt that bad in others I would just take it off and revert to social distancing.

BelleSausage · 26/07/2020 21:29

@TrustTheGeneGenie

I think your posting style and your posts generally speak for themselves in terms of your general attitude to others.

Tell me, you do spend a lot of time on the Covid threads shouting down other people and being particularly vicious with anyone who disagrees with you.

Are you genuinely trying to further discourse on this topic?

MsMonkey · 26/07/2020 21:29

I went to the shops today and I'd say about 10% of people removed them after walking in the door, or kept them hanging around their chins 🙄

sleepyblueocean · 26/07/2020 21:33

"I'm exempt, I have asthma but I've been wearing a mask for months."

If you have been able to wear a mask for months you are not exempt.

Do I? Because today is the first time I've engaged on MN anywhere other than a long running thread for more than say, ten minutes in at least a couple of weeks.

I'm not shouting down or being viscious. You're ignoring the fact that I do wear a mask and shouting at me about schools and how I will be responsible for closing them whilst ignoring the fact that I DO WEAR A MASK.

Im trying to make you understand that you're arguing with me to try and force me to do something that I am already doing

Fallenmadonnawiththebigboobies · 26/07/2020 21:34

Doesn’t bother me all that much. I find wearing a mask in a shop a lost less stressful and unpleasant than lockdown.

granny24 · 26/07/2020 21:34

Here in Portugal we’ve been wearing them for months. People just get on with it. It was forty degrees in the shade yesterday. People sanitise their hands when going into shops, and practice social distancing. When did U.K. population get to be such selfish, self-centred drama queens.?

MeadowHay · 26/07/2020 21:40

This thread is full of sanctimonious twats aggressively telling people who are already wearing masks, to wear masks. Bizarre. Confused

PablosHoney · 26/07/2020 21:41

And writing RANDOM words in CAPITALS to ram home the already received message

BlackPetunia · 26/07/2020 21:43

@granny24 they haven't? why are you so rude?

BelleSausage · 26/07/2020 21:45

@TrustTheGeneGenie

I’m arguing with you because you are spreading dangerous, unhelpful mask propaganda. Wearing a mask is a public duty to help everyone in your community.

By buying into to anti-mask ideas (really well shown by loads of posters on this thread) you are undermining the message on masks.

So far you’ve even spouted the classic ‘masks aren’t don’t even work unless worn correctly’. You either know that’s not true or haven’t bothered checking. Not sure which is worse.

Look, people can argue ideology over Brexit/Trump/trans blah,blah,blah until they are blue in the face for all I care.

But this is a serious issue that is affecting us all. The research is very clear on the effectiveness of mask wearing in general population. It won’t stop the virus but it will help keep transmission much lower.

I am over invested, in that I cannot do another lockdown without losing my god damned mind.

Loose lips sink ships. Stop undermining the virus effort.

Mask propaganda? It's just my opinion. I don't really care what anyone else does. I'm certainly not trying to influence anyone.

Are you saying that masks do work when worn incorrectly? Could you post some evidence to back that up please?

I haven't ever argued against the effectiveness of mask wearing (where is is done properly) I have said several times that they have a place.

I wouldn't like another lockdown either, please be assured that I am not single handedly trying to cause one by breathing on people in the fruit and veg aisle. Because as I have said probably about ten times now, I do wear a mask when I have to.

Loose lips sink ships? Tad over dramatic but ten out of ten for effort.

Hmm, I do give up now. Because it is clear that you are just spoiling for a fight. You’re either not reading my posts properly or deliberately misunderstanding them. I find that I don’t care which one it is.

Have a nice evening.

I don't want a fight. I'm just bewildered why you're trying to shout at me about something I am already doing.

I'm not trying to convince anyone not to wear a mask. I'm not sinking ships or anything even comparable to that. Im sharing my own personal opinion on the internet, just like you are.
