To think mask wearing is going to wear thin before long ?

I’ve already noticed people starting to flag in Scotland. In Tesco today I was bored shitless doing the weekly shop and counting 20 people with masks on Chins and under noses. Kids using them as hankies 🤢. I heard also the government might be advising glove wearing. I imagine this is going to start to become very impractical for some people and they’ll just not bother / or bother going out. My DH is exempt from mask wearing and he went out without today expecting some comments but not a peep from anyone! Also the one way aisles have been removed too meaning more folk all crammed in to a small space not socially distant. I overheard a couple saying “ what’s the point wearing masks when we are so close anyway?”

And using the comparison of a health care provider wearing one just doesn't cut it I'm afraid. It's their job, they wear light, disposable masks that get binned after each patient. Clearly not the same as a flustered parent with one mask doing a weekly shop in a busy supermarket with a couple of DC in tow. Stupid comparison.

Apologies if this has already been said and no digs here, but disposable masks aren’t changed between patients making it all the more stupid. We wear “sessional PPE” so mask up at the door to the unit and you remove it when you leave the unit for breaks, then put a new one on when returning.

However there are members of staff, like anyone running, who can go between units with the same mask on. Makes absolutely no sense.

@SantaClaritaDiet

There's a wealth of evidence. Perhaps have a little Google around? Lots of research, lots of papers. Critical thinking is, however, required.

The whole point is that the medical establishment is based on a theory which holds no water under scrutiny.

BeardyButton · 25/07/2020 19:14

It ll wear thin until invection rates and daily deaths go up to a level that people/politiciand are uncomfortable with. Then, like hand washing, social distancing and isolation it will be adopted as no other reasonable choice.
The absolute selfishness on here.... The absolute inability to conceive of the common good. Explains a lot. Inc Brexit.

InFiveMins · 25/07/2020 19:14

Not sure, the majority of people here in Manchester seem to be wearing them.

BobFleming · 25/07/2020 19:15

We will just avoid shops for now and do our food shopping online. It does seem rather inconsistent that I could go to the gym today and not be required to wear a face-covering and that shop assistants don't have to wear them.

If I do go somewhere where a face-covering is required, I'll be wearing a cotton scarf or bandana or a buff.

DefinatelyAWeeGobshite · 25/07/2020 19:17

I don’t mind wearing a mask but the one I’ve got is horrible. It’s a neoprene material and I just sweat. I want something lightweight and cotton

What about a snood? That’s what I’m using now as the masks made my glasses steam up and this doesn’t, only £3 or so from eBay

SarahBellam · 25/07/2020 19:18

YANBU. Also the terrible effect of plastic pollution from disposable masks and PPE. I wish the nanny state bedwetters could consider the disastrous effects - I heard of a swan tangled up in a mask and it will only get worse.

Amazing how mask deniers suddenly become environmentalists, isn’t it? You do know you can buy reusable, non plastic ones, don’t you?

The ‘I heard of a swan getting tangled in a mask’ made me laugh out loud. That’s up there with ‘the cheque’s in the Post’.

These are all just excuses.

SantaClaritaDiet · 25/07/2020 19:18

bananamuncher

there is a lot of research.... and a lot of people confusing their own thoughts for factual evidence. Posting on "the internet" doesn't make anyone an expert Wink

MulticolourMophead · 25/07/2020 19:19

I don't like masks, but will wear one while we are obliged to do so.

duckme · 25/07/2020 19:22

It really doesn't bring out the best in people does it?
I bloody hate wearing them. I hate the reusable ones because I feel they get too damp 🤢 but equally hate the disposable ones because I'm seriously concerned about the environmental impact of this situation and all of the single use plastics.
I wear them when I have to because I'm generally not a rule breaker. It definitely puts me off going shopping though, especially if we still have to stand on an allotted marker on the floor while we queue to get into the shop ( not too much of a problem in the summer, not so fun in the winter).
However, I'm sick of people moaning about people moaning about wearing the bloody things. Why can't we moan about something we really aren't happy about? It doesn't mean that we're not going to comply!
Just because we're being muzzled, doesn't mean we have to be silent!

@FizzAfterSix

YANBU. Also the terrible effect of plastic pollution from disposable masks and PPE. I wish the nanny state bedwetters could consider the disastrous effects - I heard of a swan tangled up in a mask and it will only get worse. I’m quite attached to oxygen so won’t be wearing one.
No, your issue is with the dickhead who didn’t bother putting his rubbish in a bin.

And you can breathe in a mask - don’t be silly

Sadza · 25/07/2020 19:25

Wow, a bit hot and itchy, and steamy glasses while you shop. Yes, quite right, shouldn’t have to wear a mask. So what about passing on this awful virus. What’s wrong with people??..

Starlightstarbright1 · 25/07/2020 19:25

I forgot today, went into wilko'swore it,, took it off and walked into pound land swiming it in my arm - forgot all about it till I got round the store.

Not intentional just not in my mindset, most I saw wearing them.

KarenKarendson · 25/07/2020 19:25

but if you are not wearing a mask for whatever reason, it's up to you to stay well away from other people. If you decide to come close to people, they are perfectly entitled to tell you off.

Well fill your boots. Go and tell people that. And see what they say and do. Come back and moan about it on mumsnet when someone gives you a mouthful or smacks you in the face. Because they don't agree with your belief that you are entitled to go and tell them off. Personally I wouldn't go up challenging random strangers. Because you never know how the fuck they will retaliate. But you do you...

Timekeeper1 · 25/07/2020 19:26

@Willow2017 Surgeons DON'T wear them for their own protection. This MYTH has been debunked many, many, many times by actual surgeons. They wear them for the protection of the patient they are operating on. So droplets don't get into the open cavity of the patient. A mask on a surgeon does NOTHING for the surgeon. The surgeon isn't the one at risk. He/she is not the one with their insides opened up and vulnerable. It is for YOUR protection. (we seriously need a facepalm emoji on here).

Happymum12345 · 25/07/2020 19:30

They are quite unpleasant to wear for long periods of time, but I promise you, they are really not as bad as being on a ventilator. That was extremely bad.

Starlightstarbright1 · 25/07/2020 19:30

I had people coming much closer than previously... so I doubt it will make a difference

Mary46 · 25/07/2020 19:30

Find them sweaty then my glasses are fogging up! Has to be done I know. Hate them

GilderoyLockdown · 25/07/2020 19:31

I went shopping today in my local town and it wasnt too awful. I’ve realised I’m not prepared to queue for shops. So shops like Wilco, Sainsbury’s and Poundland just didn’t get my custom.

I think this is likely to be one of the most significant social consequences of the mask rules, possibly more so than people who aren't exempt but will refuse anyway. People who are willing to wear one for essential shopping, public transport etc but who dislike it enough that they're just not going to voluntarily do things that would require wearing a mask.

FattyBoom · 25/07/2020 19:31

@megletthesecond

Not for me.

I want to get this pandemic over and done with and with the least hassle as possible. Wearing a mask for a year or so is a pretty easy thing to do.

Totally agree! People talk about wanting to get back to normal, but bringing the transmission rate right down is the quickest way for that to happen
GilderoyLockdown · 25/07/2020 19:34

but if you are not wearing a mask for whatever reason, it's up to you to stay well away from other people. If you decide to come close to people, they are perfectly entitled to tell you off.

They're entitled, all right, but not in the way you mean it here. There isn't a right to be steered clear of by people without masks.

Timekeeper1 · 25/07/2020 19:34

@bananamuncher Yes, I can see how thinking that SCIENCE, medicine and the medical establishment 'holds no water' to someone who is a google expert, reads biased conspiracist nonsense, lacks critical thinking themselves, and consider themselves to be more of an expert than people who spent YEARS studying. Oh, just google some conspiracist sites, watch a few you tube clips. All of a sudden you are a 'critical think' (rather than very gullible and brainwashed in reality). Confused

Metalhead · 25/07/2020 19:38

I actually quite like wearing a mask - maybe I’m weird. Only issue for me is that my glasses occasionally fog up.

99victoria · 25/07/2020 19:38

I don't like face coverings. I've tried a few but they all make me feel hot and panicky. I am claustrophobic which obviously doesn't help. But my main problem is the menopause - I have been having really bad hot flushes for about 5 years now and it's taken over my life. I never wear long sleeves or tights or anything that I can't remove quickly to cool myself down. I have had several incidents in shops over the past couple of years when I have nearly passed out.

However, I won't be 'flouting the rules'. I will simply not go anywhere where a mask is required. I don't have any health issues so don't need to attend any appointments etc and I will stay away from shops so it shouldn't be a problem for me

Timekeeper1 · 25/07/2020 19:39

And when you ask for any research from these so called 'critical thinkers', they give you.......you tube clips Confused And we all know what that means. Or links to sites that blame Bill Gates, George Soros, and 5 G and god knows what else. Never gone to university, don't have a degree in science. Yet think these people, who are heroes, are somehow 'lying' or 'exaggerating'. Honestly, my only hope is that Darwinism deals with these people.
