To think this man is disturbed

jackdawdawn · 23/07/2020 23:24

I had a conversation with a neighbour today. He lives alone and is late 40s-ish.

He had just been to the gym and started complaining about their showers being closed. Then he said, 'there is worse to come, you know.'

He started to talk about the government forcing people to wear masks, and about C19 being a myth, with the death rates made up by govts . He got quite agitated.

He mentioned a movement called the 'Illuminati' and said they were trying to take over the world (?) About Bill Gates and Elon Musk and other famous men being part of a paedophile ring, which also includes Chinese and BLM figures, which Trump has rumbled and is trying to investigate. About the new telecommunications satellites and 5G masts spying on people . And then some rant about MMR giving kids autism. I just nodded my head, I wasn't going to start arguing.

I know that conspiracy theories are rife online right now, but surely beliefs like this are excessive? I think this man is disturbed and needs to be assessed or evaluated. He is separated and single, as far as I know, but has two children who sometimes come to stay but what is his mental state, really? When does conspiracy theorism shade into paranoia?

I know his mum and dad and sister to see (they all live locally), but it would be a difficult conversation!

I have never heard the Paul McCartney one. I always just thought he is a twat. Is it worth reading up on?

user1471447863 · 24/07/2020 08:18

@Shouldbedoing

I wouldn't worry too much about him. As a single man he has all the time in the world to watch conspiracy theory videos. They can be very convincing too - my ex was a 9/11 conspiracy theorist. Unfortunately, the Internet is an excellent tool for propagating bullshit.
Why would a single man waste his time watching conspiracy theory videos when PornHub Premium is free?
Destroyedpeople · 24/07/2020 08:21

@MrsHound....'I always thought he was just a twat'..Grin
Thank you lady for giving me a genuine belly laugh to start my day.....
The problem with it is that a lot of people that write about it on WordPress etc are kind of semi literate.
But yes have a Google. ...with a large pinch of salt. ..

AnnoDomini · 24/07/2020 08:21

You could always do both?

ParisCactus · 24/07/2020 08:21

There have always been oddballs with views equivalent to this - but to me the worrying thing is that they have become so mainstream in the last few months.
It's no longer an oddball belief - you wouldn't have to stop many people on the street before you came across someone with these thoughts. Effectively they've been brainwashed.
And for those saying it does no harm, I disagree. It DOES affect us all - eg my 18yo DD, working in a grocery store, has been yelled at from close quarters and even spat at for wearing a mask at work, because of the above. Upsetting and potentially very dangerous for her and her family.

frumpety · 24/07/2020 08:26

He has done some research

Has he though ? actual research or did he just fall down a rabbit hole on the internet ?

lilyblue5 · 24/07/2020 08:31

I also know someone who believes all of that. Id keep well clear..

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 24/07/2020 08:34

You would do well to avoid. But many people this rubbish. Yes it is very peculiar indeed. Possibly even quite detrimental. But evaluated? No. He does not require “evaluating” on the basis of what you have said.

Nandakanda · 24/07/2020 08:34

Some of the wilder theories in circulation are fairly out there, but there is plenty to feed the fertile imagination at the moment.

Does anybody really believe Jacob Epstein killed himself? What about the recent shooting of the son and husband of the judge appointed to investigate JE's ties with Deutsche Bank - within four days of being appointed? (largely ignored by MSM) - by an assassin who then kills himself? Does anybody believe for a minute that Ghislaine Maxwell will survive until her trial next year - or that she will conveniently die before then? GM is party to information that would likely decimate the ranks of the globally powerful - in the unlikely event that she survives, do you believe for one minute that any of the questions that really need to be asked will be?

Just curious if the OP has any thoughts on the above. There are some fairly wild theories around to be sure, but there is also a very great need to cast a searchlight over the political/financial elites.

I will have a google.

This seems to be taking root among the same people taken in by MLMs. Why?

user1471565182 · 24/07/2020 08:39

And why do they just blank the extensive links between trump and epstein?

yesterdaystotalsteps123 · 24/07/2020 08:48

And now I'm googling Paul McCartney conspiracy theory on a Friday morning Grin

Destroyedpeople · 24/07/2020 08:54

Google images is the best for that if you Google in two names you get side by side pics.
Two of my favourites are Prince Andrew/Lord Porchester and Princess Diana/Zak Goldsmith

Destroyedpeople · 24/07/2020 08:58

PAUL MCcartney/Tara Browne is a good starting point on this one...

Apolloanddaphne · 24/07/2020 09:08

He may be a bit bonkers but I am sure he is doing no lasting harm to his DC. They will soon become teens who will disagree with him at every turn and will blast him to shreds with their own theories.

mumwon · 24/07/2020 09:15

@SomewhereEast I was always fascinated by the Black Death (number of people affected & how did society/civilization survive & the renaissance) People blamed the Jews & killed them, they also practiced strange extreme religious practices etc all of this & more extreme actions caused by fear.

Rebelwithallthecause · 24/07/2020 09:17

The weird one that’s started in the last few weeks is the free Britney conspiracy

Just take a look at he Instagram and see people’s comments

Some people think Britney Spears is dead and her dad or someone hired by her dad is posting up weird photos with hidden messages in

Destroyedpeople · 24/07/2020 09:21

Maybe it's true about Britney Spears though. ..

One that I particularly like is that the great fire of London was not caused by a careless baker but was arson and the arsonist was paid by Christopher Wren so he would get the architectural contracts for the rebuilding. Which he did.

And the 'careless Baker' schtick has been really emphasised hasn't it? How could it possibly be known?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 24/07/2020 09:21

Oh! I lost a lot of time over Free Britney.

It still worries me!

Sarahandco · 24/07/2020 09:22

At least he is getting some exersize

woodhill · 24/07/2020 09:24

Illuminati rings true

Fosler · 24/07/2020 09:25

Do you think this Dr. Has MH issues also?

It's wise to question everything imo.

Destroyedpeople · 24/07/2020 09:26

....and conveniently 'the great fire' was also the end of the Black Death...

woodhill · 24/07/2020 09:28

Also the spying generally with mobiles, smart TVs , Alexa etc

He's lonely and too much time on his hands
