To think this man is disturbed

jackdawdawn · 23/07/2020 23:24

I had a conversation with a neighbour today. He lives alone and is late 40s-ish.

He had just been to the gym and started complaining about their showers being closed. Then he said, 'there is worse to come, you know.'

He started to talk about the government forcing people to wear masks, and about C19 being a myth, with the death rates made up by govts . He got quite agitated.

He mentioned a movement called the 'Illuminati' and said they were trying to take over the world (?) About Bill Gates and Elon Musk and other famous men being part of a paedophile ring, which also includes Chinese and BLM figures, which Trump has rumbled and is trying to investigate. About the new telecommunications satellites and 5G masts spying on people . And then some rant about MMR giving kids autism. I just nodded my head, I wasn't going to start arguing.

I know that conspiracy theories are rife online right now, but surely beliefs like this are excessive? I think this man is disturbed and needs to be assessed or evaluated. He is separated and single, as far as I know, but has two children who sometimes come to stay but what is his mental state, really? When does conspiracy theorism shade into paranoia?

I know his mum and dad and sister to see (they all live locally), but it would be a difficult conversation!

😂

If you get bored and want to fill some time tomorrow, go out and mention adrenochrome and wayfair - should fill a few hours for you Grin

WorraLiberty · 23/07/2020 23:59

@jackdawdawn

Are people online really making that stuff up about Gates and Musk?

Yes, I do think he is batshit, but he is meant to be responsible for the welfare of kids. Personally I don't hold out much hope for the poor kids if that is their dad.I'm just trying to think of my mum and dad coming out with something similar and imagining what my childhood would have been like.

There are many mentally ill parents who still manage to raise their kids ok.

Look at the mental health section and you'll see that.

If he is mentally disturbed then I hope he gets the help he needs.

There’s a lot if this about at the moment. Smile, nod and ignore.

ddl1 · 24/07/2020 00:12

Unless his beliefs actually cause him to harm someone, there is nothing that you can do about them. Unfortunately, this too is a nasty and contagious virus, and can lead to dangerous complications such as antisemitism or electing Trump as president of the United States. But you can't force people to be sane. Just be glad that the British variety, unlike the American variety, don't usually include people who think that every individual needs to own umpteen guns.

“ As a single man he has all the time in the world to watch conspiracy theory videos.”

Fucks sake that a conspiracy theory right there

Idiot

pictish · 24/07/2020 00:22

Eee...you just go ‘oh right’ and ‘mm hmm’ before extricating yourself and leaving him to it.
Don’t worry about it.

fascinated · 24/07/2020 00:24

@Shouldbedoing

I wouldn't worry too much about him. As a single man he has all the time in the world to watch conspiracy theory videos. They can be very convincing too - my ex was a 9/11 conspiracy theorist. Unfortunately, the Internet is an excellent tool for propagating bullshit.
Just because you’re paranoid, don’t mean they’re not after you.... said Kurt.
fascinated · 24/07/2020 00:25

@Chouxalacreme

Ask him if Michelle Obama is a man ...
Well, If she identifies as one, why not?!
overnightangel · 24/07/2020 00:26

To be fair Kurt was smacked up to the high hills when he said that

fascinated · 24/07/2020 00:27

Yeh but in vino veritas, etc etc

GhostTypeEevee · 24/07/2020 00:27

The tin foil hat brigade has exploded recently, conspiring theories are everywhere

2bazookas · 24/07/2020 00:27

Even if he is delusional and paranoid, there are plenty of people living independently in the community with diagnosed mental illnesses that include those symptoms, being medically supported . And they can and do have access to their children.

If you know his family then there's nothing wrong with a polite
enquiry; " Your brother is my neighbour, I'm sometimes a little worried about him, is he having any help?"

Just as you would if he had some physical difficulties and might not be coping.

NewtonPulsifer · 24/07/2020 00:33

I know loads of people who firmly believe all this. Ask him about Faul McCartney. Or just say “sssshh! Not here. They are listening” and walk away.

Mothership4two · 24/07/2020 00:36

It's surprising how widespread these conspiracy theorists are. Ordinary people with ordinary lives have them. I don't think I would have politely let him go through his repertoire but would have made my excuses and left. I'm not use what you are asking to do about him?

Did he mention the Lizard people?

WhoWants2Know · 24/07/2020 00:36

It's sometimes hard not to be paranoid when you see the allegations against those associated with Epstein or read about Russians donating money to political parties in the newspaper.

There probably really are quite a few very rich people who are able to do some very bad things with impunity. But I doubt that they are lizards poisoning us via chemtrails.

FlashingRedMeansGo · 24/07/2020 00:40

I believe there is an all-powerful supernatural being capable of knowing my innermost thoughts and yours. Some people would say I'm crazy. Some might speculate I'm not fit to look after children. Some people would recognise the hypocrisy and prejudice in these attitudes; some might even consider their own beliefs and opinions in a different light. Most people believe something that you don't, or else they don't believe something that you consider to be basic fact. Are you deluded? Or everyone else? Or both?

jessstan2 · 24/07/2020 00:42

Don't do anything, he will probably get over it. Limit contact in the meantime, just be polite in passing.

fascinated · 24/07/2020 00:43

If supreme being can see innermost thoughts, why do we need confession? Interesting thought...

fascinated · 24/07/2020 00:44

Sorry that’s probably one for the religion section!

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 24/07/2020 00:45

@PlanDeRaccordement which 3?

FlashingRedMeansGo · 24/07/2020 00:45

Hahah don't worry, I won't launch into chapter on verse on here! I just think we'd all be amazed if we could see what each other actually believe (or doubt)

Ponoka7 · 24/07/2020 00:52

"*Personally I don't hold out much hope for the poor kids if that is their dad.I'm just trying to think of my mum and dad coming out with something similar and imagining what my childhood would have been like." "

Have you read that book that's quite popular? The Bible. You're in NI, you'll know all about the propaganda preached. Now there's real control and agendas going on. Did your Parents, or the people around them ever come out with that stuff? Did they need assessing?

When we (Liverpool) were fighting to get the truth told, there was much laughing and derision about how high it was being claimed that the plotting and cover ups went.

Jimmy Saville, Epstien, etc etc, all people who have friends in high places. Prince Andrew and Trump are mentioned and Epstien is dead.

I don't believe what he does. But there are chips being implanted into employees in the US. We have people in power who think that water isn't a human right. We have a government who knew that they'd ran the country down to a dangerous level, but carried on because everyone below MC is disposable.

As far as I'm concerned the government is throwing everyone in deprived areas under the bus. If able, who knows how far they'd go?

Justaboy · 24/07/2020 01:01

Well i think they did go to the Moon.

And as to 9/11 WTC-7 was a bloody wierd one the way it came down!

And as to aliens?, well as they have to come a very very long way you'd think they'd be wandering up and down Watford high street wouldnt you?, stands to reason!

and 5G and corona virus?, grade one bullshit!

Mimishimi · 24/07/2020 01:08

9-11 was revenge for another conspiracy which killed millions is my take on it. From the sort who fund all sorts of crap including inhumane science experiments and are obsessed with eugenics. Many of us have experienced this sort firsthand.

He's quite right to be concerned.
