Or are Asda taking the P**s?

I have an Asda delivery booked for tomorrow night but too late to cancel it now. I have ordered 42 items and have been subbed 22. 22 ffs!! The last couple of deliveries, since Covid, they have dropped them off without a print out like Tesco and no reference to the subs which are usually just a couple. I am going to have to stand and go through them on the doorstep to check which subs are ok and handback those that aren't. I prefer Tesco who have consistently been great since March with one or 2 items substituted. I am sooo ready for tomorrow. This, btw is after them removing 5 items from the basket as well. Is it just my local Asda? Seriously, want to know if this is reasonable and I am just being a bit precious?

If they don't have it, they don't have it. What else do you want them to do?

Belowwreck · 21/07/2020 22:29

Drivers haven't been accepting subs back here.

Its annoying but I've had 5 at most. The one that really pissed me off was slimline fever tree instead of full sugar. Urgh.

netflixismysidehustle · 21/07/2020 22:30

Are the substitutes acceptable (say Homepride plain flour instead of Asda own brand) or are they not bringing the unavailable item at all?

JagerPlease · 21/07/2020 22:30

I always get an email receipt on the day which tells you what all the subs are, do you not get that?

user67864 · 21/07/2020 22:31

How do you know they have subbed 22 items? They normally don't pick until the day of delivery.

ssd · 21/07/2020 22:32

This would annoy me too. I always tick no substitutions though.

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 21/07/2020 22:32

I usually just accept the subs, as ours are pretty much like for like and I just accept the food delivered.

Like already said, if the stock isn't there there isn't much you can do. Can you not tick no substitutions?

mynameisigglepiggle · 21/07/2020 22:33

I think the policy of handing back subs has changed? I click and collect but last couple of times they have asked if the subs are ok? I only ever have a few though. Think 5 is the most it's usually 1 or 2.
I find click and collect better. Not had much luck with delivery to be honest. They claimed we weren't in one night in the height of lockdown. 5 of us in the house hadn't been out for weeks at that point. That went down well!!

ktewdc · 21/07/2020 22:33

Seems very early for them to have picked your order OP 🤨

inchoccyheaven · 21/07/2020 22:34

When Asda send you your picked order by email it tells you what the subs are so you should be able to tell from that whether you want to return any. The driver this week didn't mention them but the ones before asked if there was anything I wanted to send back and he hunted them out for me.

Otherwise you can log into your account the day after and request a refund for anything you didn't want. I usually have to do that with short dated items.

Starbuggy · 21/07/2020 22:34

It does sound a lot! But I didn’t think you could see your subs until the day? I have a delivery tomorrow morning but it’s not showing whether I have any unavailable or subs yet.

I had a lot of subs back in March and April but unless your 22 items are all things still in high demand like flour, yeast, soap, cleaning wipes etc, that seems a crazy amount of subs. I don’t think I had that many even at the height of the madness and all my subs were sensible ones.

You can refuse subs again now and get a refund (And could always request a refund online even when you couldn’t hand stuff back) but I know it’s annoying when you’ve planning on having stuff. Are they things like a different brand of the same item or are they things you don’t like?

Clevererthanyou · 21/07/2020 22:34

User67864, even if my order isn’t due for two weeks I am told the day after placing my order with Asda that there are X amount of substitutions.

CheshireCats · 21/07/2020 22:35

You can see what subs are coming online once it's picked - you don't have to look through your items trying ti remember!

nicslackey · 21/07/2020 22:35

You don't know what the sub is until it arrives, hence checking on the doorstep. My point was it seems that over 50% is a lot to be unavailable. I have never had this much before and if there are stock issues, should the system not say out of stock and I would have gone elsewhere ie Tesco. I fully get that if something is not available, it's not available but I was taken aback at over half as the shelves here at least are pretty well back to normal. They are taking subs back here luckily!

My Asda is brilliant.

3 subs, all sensible and all listed in an email prior to the deliver so I knew which I wanted and the one I didn't.

The driver was also polite, friendly and helpful.

SauvignonBlanketyBlank · 21/07/2020 22:36

Loads of subs and not available items with asda for ages now.Going to stick to tesco.

RoseDog · 21/07/2020 22:37

Asda send you an email with the list of subs hours before the order arrives!

nicslackey · 21/07/2020 22:37

They sent the email tonight. I did specify where I didn't want subs, but again there are usually only a couple

HoneysuckIejasmine · 21/07/2020 22:37

I get an email the day of delivery to tell me what the subs are. They are always reasonable in my experience.

They've got v limited ham at the moment - I know they use that meat packing plant in Wales where there was a covid outbreak so I guess that's why. I've ordered a gammon joint instead to roast and slice.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 21/07/2020 22:38

The email always tells you exactly what the sub is.
Clevs · 21/07/2020 22:39

I gave up having shopping delivered from Asda due to the amount of subs or unavailable items (I never had as many as 22 though!). I went back to Tesco and have had no problems, have even benefited from some of the subs!

ktewdc · 21/07/2020 22:39

You can definitely see what the substitute is before it arrives OP, check your account. I also don't see why they would have already picked your order. You could still amend it up to half an hour ago. Maybe it is just a fault on the system or something like that. I've never had anything like 22 substitutions. Maximum 5 in a £100 shop.

Staplemaple · 21/07/2020 22:41

They wouldn't have picked for tomorrow yet. But even if they had, in the email, and on the app or if you use the website they say which items have been subbed. Not sure why you would, but do you have other motives for starting this thread? Asda subs are great anyway, and they don't charge extra. Quite often get branded stuff instead of their own brand, or larger qualities for the same price.

Elouera · 21/07/2020 22:41

How do you know they have subbed things then the day before??? I don't find out till the actual day when they email me in the morning, with the list of what has been subbed! Why would you expect them to know 2 weeks ahead of time, or whenever you placed the order, that they would be out of stock on the day of your delivery? Confused

Either request no subs for those items, give back to driver (if they are accepting things back now?) or if they are a ridiculous sub, you can go into the system and request a refund.

I always get subs from asda, but they are usually reasonable.

IwishIhadaMargarita · 21/07/2020 22:41

On sainsburys you can choose on each item whether to sub or not. So for example butter, eggs and milk I’m happy to sub.
