Or are Asda taking the P**s?

I have an Asda delivery booked for tomorrow night but too late to cancel it now. I have ordered 42 items and have been subbed 22. 22 ffs!! The last couple of deliveries, since Covid, they have dropped them off without a print out like Tesco and no reference to the subs which are usually just a couple. I am going to have to stand and go through them on the doorstep to check which subs are ok and handback those that aren't. I prefer Tesco who have consistently been great since March with one or 2 items substituted. I am sooo ready for tomorrow. This, btw is after them removing 5 items from the basket as well. Is it just my local Asda? Seriously, want to know if this is reasonable and I am just being a bit precious?

Asda's system can be a bit strange.

I tried to put a fairly niche item into my basket and it was showing as out of stock, an hour later my DD went on to add some things and she was able to add that item. It was late at night so no way the stock levels has changed in that time.

Gingerkittkat Asda get their deliveries at night and pick straight from store, so yes, the stock will have changed in that time because they’ll have got a delivery of it.

marypoppinsreturns · 22/07/2020 07:46

I did an Asda click and collect order last week for the first time in a few years. (I'm a bit less keen to go in person for a big shop these days). 6 subs on a £69 shop. One unavailable item ( red wine). Thought it strange they didn't sub that so popped in store to pick one up as it was for cooking. Checked for one of the subbed items as the replacement, although we will use it, was
no good for the particular meal we'd planned, and the item we wanted was well stocked in the fridge next to the thing they'd replaced it with. We also got a tub of potato salad dated two days before we got the shopping. I'm nit keen to wear a mask for longer than absolutely necessary so will probably use the service again, but it's really put my husband off.

maddiemookins16mum · 22/07/2020 07:54

Mine is due at 11am. You click into your order to see the subs. I’ve had an ASDA delivery every week with minimum subs throughout lockdown.

RonnieBob · 22/07/2020 07:57

You get an email beforehand telling you what subs are.

You can log in to your account online or via the app and see what your subs are.

Asda have been excellent throughout the pandemic and years before in my experience.

thaegumathteth · 22/07/2020 08:01

You can go in to your account and it will list the substitutes HOWEVER I really do not think they've picked your order yet.

heartsonacake · 22/07/2020 08:01

and the item we wanted was well stocked in the fridge next to the thing they'd replaced it with.

marypoppinsreturns It won’t have been there at 4am when the picker chose your shopping, else they would have picked it.

Livpool · 22/07/2020 08:19

I get an email like PPs and you have the option to decline then I think - although I use Click & Collect rather than a delivery.

I haven't minded the substitutions I have had so far - they have nearly always been better than what I ordered

HoneysuckIejasmine · 22/07/2020 08:27

@Washyourhands48

Ok Karen.
I also think the OP is overreacting but that's a horrible, ageist, mysogynistic slur you're throwing about.

Round our way, Morrisons really struggled at the start - absolutely no fresh meat or veg at all. Asda did much better but was harder to get slots. They are both back to normal now.

Sceptre86 · 22/07/2020 08:46

Do you shop with asda regularly? I think you may have made a mistake. When you place an order you get an email and items will have crosses against, them these are items that you don't want substituted. When I first started shopping with asda online I got such an email and mistakenly assumed those items were out of stock or had been substituted.

You get an email on the morning of your items being picked that tells you if any items are not available or if they have been substituted. The email will look like the screenshot that a pp posted.

Topttumps · 22/07/2020 08:48

I am always aware of the subs as you receive an email on the day. They have now changed the rules as you used to be able to request an online refund for an unsatisfactory sub.
The thing that pisses me off most about Asda subs is that you rarely benefit from them.
I have been subbed a more expensive product and charged the higher amount which is against the rules.
More annoyingly I have ordered say 7 bananas and subbed with a pack of 5 that cost the same so I get less product for the money.
I usually go into the order the night before and amend it so I think this keeps subs low.
Only stick with them as delivery is free as dh shielding. We had one Tesco delivery but they charge and the delivery slots are longer.

Topttumps · 22/07/2020 08:50

Although I was amused when I ordered a product. I was told it was out of stock so requested something similar. On the day this new item was substituted for a product I wanted in the first place. Op 22 subs is ridiculous.

AccountAntsy · 22/07/2020 08:56

Yeah, you’ve just misunderstood the email you’ve received and that is indicating the products you’ve allowed to be subbed if needed. The email you get on the days says exactly what any substitutions are, so this is a bit of a mountain out of a molehill.

I do find Asda the worst for substitutions though. Sainsbury’s much better. Not that I can get a bloody delivery slot anymore.

Vivana · 22/07/2020 09:14

I have done home shop and it's not just one person doing your entire order. Several people are eg one does chilled and so on

Shitfuckoh · 22/07/2020 09:16

My order is being delivered at lunch time today. 10 items have been subbed! 1 was a pack of ham that i wanted but when adding something last night it said out of stock so i picked a different one, turns out they don't have that one but do have the original! Grin the limit on 1 pack of ham and a lot of the chilled stuff is causing issues for me.

I've booked Tesco for next week in the hope we may get what we need but ASDA have been great throughout all of this, even if I did have some crazy subs in the last few months!

Vivana · 22/07/2020 09:19

Shitfuckoh

That's because the factory that produces the ham for the supermarket has had to shut due to covid. It's been in the news but its starting to reopen now so meat should come back in as usual. Not Asdas fault

HoneysuckIejasmine · 22/07/2020 09:23

My only real gripe with Asda now is they seem to have discontinued the sliced Cumberland sausage that they sold along with the ham etc. It goes great fried in a bacon sandwich. I have some in the freezer but will be gutted if it's not back before I run out. Grin

Staplemaple · 22/07/2020 09:24

@Topttumps that's unfortunate, Ive always lucked out with Asda ones. A bag of sugar double the size, ordered a pot of naked noodles and they subbed it with a multipack of 4 for the same price! You can hand them back to the driver now and he will scan them straight away which gets the refund going immediately. The online refund bit was when they were unable to accept returns (although you can still request a refund for short dated items etc online)

Onesnowynight · 22/07/2020 09:24

My most subs were 28

Soubriquet · 22/07/2020 09:27

This is why I’m so careful when I’m subbing for customers

I try to take those extra few minutes to choose a suitable item

For example if someone wanted 4 pack of non scented baby wipes but all we had was the 4 pack of scented wipes I would sub it for 4 individual packs of non scented wipes because I don’t like the scent so I assume the customer doesn’t either

marypoppinsreturns · 22/07/2020 09:29

@heartsonacake maybe so and that's fair enough.I was just relaying my experience. The out of date item was a little frustrating though and I was a little surprised they didn't sub a bottle of red wine.

fairydustandpixies · 22/07/2020 10:00

Asda haven't given paper receipts on delivery for about 18 months. You have to check your email.

I have Morrisons delivering this morning and they've emailed to advise what I've got coming, what subs have been made and what is missing.

They won't take subs back on the doorstep but you can ask for a refund online. All very normal!

My sister had a Asda order last week she is a vegetarian so no meat products at all on her order . She ordered a veggie pie and they substituted it with a steak pie .

Burnthurst187 · 22/07/2020 11:33

We did an ASDA delivery once, only once because it was so bad. Twelve items were missed when picking from the shelves. They weren't listed as missing on the receipt and we were charged for them

DP kicked up a stink and got a delivery the next day, four pint of milk still missing! When DP rang to say twelve items were missing the employee said Is that all, it's usually more Hmm

Vivana · 26/07/2020 00:16

Well when you do a home shop you don't just shop for one order you have various crates with many orders on it. For example there are pockets doing chilled or ambient etc. Not just one sole person doing a whole entire order.
