Or are Asda taking the P**s?

I have an Asda delivery booked for tomorrow night but too late to cancel it now. I have ordered 42 items and have been subbed 22. 22 ffs!! The last couple of deliveries, since Covid, they have dropped them off without a print out like Tesco and no reference to the subs which are usually just a couple. I am going to have to stand and go through them on the doorstep to check which subs are ok and handback those that aren't. I prefer Tesco who have consistently been great since March with one or 2 items substituted. I am sooo ready for tomorrow. This, btw is after them removing 5 items from the basket as well. Is it just my local Asda? Seriously, want to know if this is reasonable and I am just being a bit precious?

If you've had the email saying they were subs, are they not listed at the top of the email like this?

40andginger · 21/07/2020 22:45

If you phone there customers service they will cancel it usually

ktewdc · 21/07/2020 22:46

@beautifulxdisasters yes! That exactly what mine is like too. And if you go on the APP there is a picture of the sub too.

Allaboutthepizza · 21/07/2020 22:47

I have had exactly the same issue with Asda. So many substitutions and, even worse, loads of out of stock items. So annoying when you've ordered specific items for a recipe and they just mark something as out of stock, leaving you with all the other ingredients but unable to make the meal. I was finding up to 1/3 of my items were out of stock or substitutes! I only used Asda as it was impossible to get a Tesco slot, but switched back as soon as I was able. In my last 4 Tesco deliveries I've had just 2 substitutions and nothing out of stock at all, so I'm not sure why Asda are so poor.

maidmorion · 21/07/2020 22:48

It does all depend if it's subs like plain pork sausages instead of pork and apple, Fairy powder instead of asda non-bio, or whether it's condoms instead of a pregnancy test, ice cream instead of face cream type.

RedRumTheHorse · 21/07/2020 22:48

@IwishIhadaMargarita and OP you can do it on the Asda website as well just before you checkout but you can't do it on the app.

OP- Asda email you midnight/early morning on the day of your delivery to tell you what your subs are. They are also listed on your account around that time.

EL8888 · 21/07/2020 22:48

Sounds like they are taking the piss to me. That’s a really high %

EatsShootsAndRuns · 21/07/2020 22:48

Was it the email saying that things are out of stock and advising you to log in and choose alternatives?
Hmm
Your order won't have been picked yet, mine is booked for 9am - 11am and our cut off time for amendments has only just gone so you're throwing a wobbly over nothing it seems.

CuppaZa · 21/07/2020 22:49

The exact subs will be listed in the update email.

nicslackey · 21/07/2020 22:51

Sorry, what "motives" do you imagine I might have Staplemaple?
I thought it would be picked tomorrow as it is an evening delivery, so was just surprised.

@Elouera if you amend your shopping, which many people do, they tell you they either haven't got an item in stock so you can't put it in your basket or that it will be substituted.

I complained as they kept telling me that they didn't have bread and milk, but if I didn't amend my shopping it would arrive.

nicslackey · 21/07/2020 22:55

Thanks to those offering helpful advice, @beautifulxdisasters, my email didn't look like yours so I think I will wait until tomorrow and perhaps I will get an updated one.

OP it should say what they are subbed with.

Sh05 · 21/07/2020 22:56

In your latest email they should tell you what's been subbed for the unavailable stuff. This is what my Asda online emails are like.i do find that the substitutions they make are not thought through properly though, I've ordered vegetarian meals only for them to be subbed with meat ones.
Ive now started to untick the items I don't want substituting which means I need to pop out if they're unavailable.

ktewdc · 21/07/2020 22:56

That doesn't look like any email I've ever received off Asda about my order OP. Hopefully it's a mistake and your shopping will arrive tomorrow. Mine looks exactly like @beautifulxdisasters

Sh05 · 21/07/2020 22:58

This is how my email looks

Erictheavocado · 21/07/2020 22:59

I was very sceptical about Asda but ended up getting my mum registered for online shopping with them when tesco, sainsbury's etc weren't accepting new customers. She tells me what she wants and I do the ordering. Throughout lockdown, they came up trumps in terms of stock availability and subs. She was so impressed that she's still getting her shopping from them. In fact, only tonight she told me she will probably stick with online shopping now. On her last delivery there were two subs she didn't want and the driver was happy to take them back.
Yes, it's annoying when something is subbed, but as long as the subs are acceptable, I don't see the problem. At least with Asda you know in advance, with Tesco I don't find out until the delivery arrives and then you have to decide straight away rather than having time to decide whether to accept or not.

beautifulxdisasters · 21/07/2020 23:01

It seems I normally get that email at 7am ish on day of delivery (irrespective of delivery time) so hopefully you'll get more info in the morning OP! I'm sure if there are too many silly subs you could phone customer services and cancel if your delivery isn't til the evening.

bananaskinsnomnom · 21/07/2020 23:02

Asda always seems to have more substitutes than any other supermarket. They’ve also cancelled on me at the last minute multiple times. I don’t use them anymore.

I know sometimes things are out of stock, that’s fine, that’s life! But 50% of the shopping? That’s happened to me too - more than once - not with Tesco!

ilovesooty · 21/07/2020 23:03

They haven't had any Chunky choc ice lollies for weeks. Sad

CantSayJack · 21/07/2020 23:06

We shopped online with Asda during early weeks of lockdown (due to someone in household having symptoms) and the amount of unavailable items and subs were ridiculous! A neighbour would then have to go to the store and buy the missing items and would find most of them were available instore! When I queried this with the store I was told the items are picked from a different location which is codswallop as I see the pickers going around with their trollies instore!! Don’t know if the pickers can’t be arsed in our local but as soon as we could we reverted to shopping instore. It was really poor.

CantSayJack · 21/07/2020 23:07

Also, the dates on the fresh fruit were same day or a day or 2 later so no good.

Sunnydaysrock · 21/07/2020 23:07

I used Asda once in lockdown when I couldn't get a Tesco slot. It was a collection. My one and only. The set up was ridiculous considering it was the height of the pandemic. No social distancing by the staff, no masks, gloves etc, unlike Tesco. I decided I'd rather take my chances going in to a Tesco shop after that.

beautifulxdisasters · 21/07/2020 23:08

Actually what's the subject of your email OP? Could those just be the items you've allowed to be subbed?

When I amend my order I get this with subject "here's your amended order", which looks like the format of info you've got. Maybe your email programme can't read the ticks that mean "sub" (i.e. if it's unavailable please send a sub) so just say the word instead? If so it doesn't mean they're actually subs just that they will sub them if they're not available!

Or are Asda taking the P**s?
TeaForTara · 21/07/2020 23:20

How are you all getting ASDA delivery slots? Never any available when I look.
