Or are Asda taking the P**s?

I have an Asda delivery booked for tomorrow night but too late to cancel it now. I have ordered 42 items and have been subbed 22. 22 ffs!! The last couple of deliveries, since Covid, they have dropped them off without a print out like Tesco and no reference to the subs which are usually just a couple. I am going to have to stand and go through them on the doorstep to check which subs are ok and handback those that aren't. I prefer Tesco who have consistently been great since March with one or 2 items substituted. I am sooo ready for tomorrow. This, btw is after them removing 5 items from the basket as well. Is it just my local Asda? Seriously, want to know if this is reasonable and I am just being a bit precious?

I think beautifulxdisasters is right.

You don't get the ASDA email until the day of delivery. The cut off for amending the order is 10pm, there's no way they picked your evening delivery for tomorrow within a few minutes of the amend cut off tonight and emailed you about it.

RedRumTheHorse · 21/07/2020 23:25

@TeaForTara

How are you all getting ASDA delivery slots? Never any available when I look.
  1. Having had a delivery pass long before lockdown with a recurring slot
  2. Location - different areas have different numbers of slots
  3. Being elderly and/or on shielding list
Starbuggy · 21/07/2020 23:25

This thread is weird

Nobody can possibly know 2 weeks in advance as one PP claimed because Asda aren’t psychic and don’t know what people will buy in 2 weeks time. When they say something is unavailable it just means at that time. It often becomes available if you amend your order later but then other things may no longer be available

And I have never ever had an Asda order that told me my subs until the morning of delivery. Why on earth would they pick it the day before? Where would they store it for 24 hours?

And you can always see your exact subs either on the email they send or by logging in and checking your order.

Just a strange thread altogether!

PatchworkElmer · 21/07/2020 23:26

I think that Asda have struggled with their supply chain, much more than Tesco have. However, I am very grateful to them for the deliveries we’ve had during lockdown- there have been some infuriating substitutions though!

RedRumTheHorse · 21/07/2020 23:33

@PatchworkElmer depends where you are and what day your delivery is. Some people I know orders have had one or two substitutions after the first weeks of lockdown.

BillBaileysBum · 21/07/2020 23:39

Well I might as well throw my tuppance in Grin

I do find Asda substitute way more than Tesco or Ocado, I’ve never used Sainsbury’s for delivery. I also find the Asda app inferior and bloody annoying. But- you do get an email beforehand telling you what the subs are going to be.

There you all go, I’m sure I’ve sorted everything out now with those nuggets of wisdom Grin

Jessemer · 21/07/2020 23:39

@nicslackey

You don't know what the sub is until it arrives, hence checking on the doorstep. My point was it seems that over 50% is a lot to be unavailable. I have never had this much before and if there are stock issues, should the system not say out of stock and I would have gone elsewhere ie Tesco. I fully get that if something is not available, it's not available but I was taken aback at over half as the shelves here at least are pretty well back to normal. They are taking subs back here luckily!
Not true, you get an email at about 5am with all the information.
Gin4thewin · 21/07/2020 23:45

Asda are shyte, i ordered a £50 shop and got 20 quids worth. The driver commented i didnt have much...i pointed out my order hadnt started that way. Couldn't substitute chicken goujons for ANYTHING else apparently. Use tesco, ive never had more than 1 or 2 subs and they're sensible, usually better than what you ordered. I ordered 3 packs of 40 antibac wipes, i got 3 packs of 80 for the same price. My parents and grandparents switched too, mum got a massive large beef joint because they didnt have small!

MotherofTerriers · 21/07/2020 23:50

Twice I returned subs and never got a refund. Once they massively overcharged for an item, way over the price on the packet. Nobody answered the phone when I tried customer services. I would only book an Asda delivery if I really couldn’t get a slot with another supermarket

RubbishQueen · 21/07/2020 23:55

I cancelled an order way before lock down. They had pretty much subbed most of my items and anything party related was unavailable. It was my LO's birthday. So I thought I might as well head to Tescos and get the shopping I actually wanted. It took a week for the funds to be released into my account. And that was only because the bank does it after 7 days of the amount not being collected. Asda were completely unhelpful and the poor loves from customer services were not from England and had no idea what I was talking about. Their call centre is not in the UK.

BrummyMum1 · 22/07/2020 00:00

You sure it’s not just highlighting the items that you’re allowing substitutions for in the event they don’t have them?

MintyMabel · 22/07/2020 00:05

If they don't have it, they don't have it. What else do you want them to do?

Have a better system. I have used Asda on and off for years when I needed specific stuff that Tesco don’t stock, and have used them recently when they had space available. Their online system is absolutely shit. Items showing in stock, you pick it, get to check out ten minutes later and half the items are no longer available. Change them and finally check out. An hour later (at 11pm the night before the delivery) you get an email saying here’s all the things we couldn’t put in the order.

Are you really suggesting there was a run on Alpro soya desserts, washing machine cleaner and oven gloves between 10 and 11pm on a Wednesday night?

Staffy1 · 22/07/2020 00:22

@beautifulxdisasters

Actually what's the subject of your email OP? Could those just be the items you've allowed to be subbed?

When I amend my order I get this with subject "here's your amended order", which looks like the format of info you've got. Maybe your email programme can't read the ticks that mean "sub" (i.e. if it's unavailable please send a sub) so just say the word instead? If so it doesn't mean they're actually subs just that they will sub them if they're not available!

I think beautifulxdisasters has it right. These are probably the items you have marked as allowed to be substituted. Your email doesn't look like the standard one that tells you what the substitutes are. I also think Tesco's is by far the best, puts Sainsbury's to shame with home deliveries.
Washyourhands48 · 22/07/2020 00:25

Ok Karen.

Washyourhands48 · 22/07/2020 00:29

Sorry! While you’re over reacting I meant to say I have had a nothing but positive experience with my newly adapted click and collect store at Morrisons lately.

Osirus · 22/07/2020 00:33

I’ve not had any substitutions from Ocado for a fair few weeks now.

I’m sure most aren’t accepting rejected substitutes at the moment. I think Asda are pretty poor generally, but better than Morrison’s home delivery service which is a bit dire. Tesco’s are ok, if you can find a slot!

Enoughnowstop · 22/07/2020 01:05

The email that says you have substitutions tells you what they actually are. It’s really not difficult and Asda pick the same day.

Vivana · 22/07/2020 01:15

You get a email with the subs on and they text you and you can check on there app or there website. There are problems with some of the producers currently I have been informed and you cant have things what they dont have. YABU

Vivana · 22/07/2020 01:16

Also pickerscdo not start till 3am in the morning and you wont get a update just after you ordered it. Hmm

Mustbethewine · 22/07/2020 01:18

I can always see the subs before they arrive with asda 🤷‍♀️ their subs are pretty spot on usually.

Rosebel · 22/07/2020 01:33

What do you mean, taking the piss? Do you think they have the items but just can't be bothered to pick them?
They'll base your subs on what's out of stock today so it might be different tomorrow. When they have picked your shopping (tomorrow) they will email the list of actual subs.
I work for Asda (picking the shopping) and get a bit annoyed by this attitude. If it's not in stock, it's not in stock.. It's quite annoying having to walk the length of the store only to find the items is out of stock but it is what it is. Can't magic stock out of think air.

Gingerkittykat · 22/07/2020 02:51

Asda's system can be a bit strange.

I tried to put a fairly niche item into my basket and it was showing as out of stock, an hour later my DD went on to add some things and she was able to add that item. It was late at night so no way the stock levels has changed in that time.

Overall I am happy with them though, my only sub this week was changing the brand of my flour!

NoMoreJunk · 22/07/2020 03:05

Sainsbury's email you that morning with the subs/ things not available

Tesco don't let you know at all.

Weve been with Tesco the whole of lockdown, get about £300 worth a week and normally only afew subs, but always seems to be better than what was ordered / more expensive.

Last week we had about 8 subs, but all was like for like really

heartsonacake · 22/07/2020 04:30

You don't know what the sub is until it arrives, hence checking on the doorstep

Yes you do. They’ve picked it by mid morning so then you can check via the app or website, and they also send you an email with the subs too.

So no, you don’t need to stand there and go through everything 🤦‍♀️

Sparticuscaticus · 22/07/2020 04:30

Asda online delivery and substitutions only work if you read your emails and the 'what's -arriving' list on morning of your delivery.

Ime Asda do substitute far more than other supermarkets. - Sometimes it's a bargain, a bigger pack/better brand for same price, other times it's wildly useless sub or a smaller pack at same price

Better than Iceland who send order out with 1/5 to 1/3 missing , because they don't substitute regularly.

Asda do let you reject substitutions at the door. You just can't touch them first when on your doorstep. So I point out (from afar) which substitutions I don't want first for driver to remove, before I touch or take anything into house.
If we'd missed it, and it was one of those Asda sent super hot chilli sauce instead of mild salsa type substitutions , I'd select it after delivery and request refund anyway.
