Calendars that start on a Sunday

orangesky1 · 20/07/2020 21:18

I accidentally bought a calendar this year which begins the week on a Sunday.

I am constantly getting the days wrong and weekend events are split over two lines.

Does anyone actually prefer this??

YANBU : week should start with Monday

YABU : starting week on Sunday is fine

Managed to have a long running argument with someone about this, we had to agree to stop talking about it Grin

Yanbu, who wants a split weekend on a calendar?

AnneLovesGilbert · 20/07/2020 21:24

So so SO annoying and non-sensical. Is it an American thing?

TheTrollFairy · 20/07/2020 21:25

Sunday is the weekEND. It has no business being at the start of a calendar!

isittheholidaysyet · 20/07/2020 21:26

I heard the Sunday start on a calendar was an American thing.

Horsemad · 20/07/2020 21:26

Monday is the first day of the week!

Onetwothree456 · 20/07/2020 21:29

Is it a middle eastern calendar? The weekend in Dubai is Friday and Saturday. And the working week starts on Sunday.

EhUp · 20/07/2020 21:29

I had one that started on a Sunday last year and it really pissed me off

When selecting my 2020 calendar I made a point of avoiding the same and chose one starting on a Monday

(since everything since mid March has been cancelled it hasn't been quite the life changing decision it should have been though Angry)

heartsonacake · 20/07/2020 21:29

YANBU. Monday is the start of the week.

orangesky1 · 20/07/2020 21:31

Ok thank you!! I thought it was just me. Calendar was from our local garden center... But was in the sale at end of Jan admittedly. Probably why!

I believe it’s American - when I first moved here it tripped me up all the time!

slipperywhensparticus · 20/07/2020 21:32

I was always taught the days of the week starting with Sunday

Dollywilde · 20/07/2020 21:34

Sunday is the first day of the week in the Christian calendar....

Personally I agree with you OP but I’m lapsed CofE Grin that said I guess it’s quite useful to have a day’s warning of stuff happening in the week, my mum hasn’t yet embraced technology and has been caught out in the past by appointments on Monday mornings/1st of the month as the calendar hadn’t changed...

Crankley · 20/07/2020 21:35

Every calendar I have owned in the last 70+ years has had Sunday as the start of the week. It has absolutely nothing to do with America or the Middle East, it's the way it has always been.

LatteLover12 · 20/07/2020 21:36

I accidentally bought a calendar like this, this year.
It was the same design I've had for a couple of years now & they'd changed it! I was so disappointed!

It went in the bin and I bought a new one. I knew I'd be writing things in the wrong place all year and I couldn't cope 😂

OleanderOllivander · 20/07/2020 21:36

I think it's actually very traditional, and not an American thing at all. My mother would have said Sunday was the first day of the week (biblical I think). But it's really, really annoying on a calendar in modern life.

Monoceros · 20/07/2020 21:37

I always buy calendars that start with a Sunday. That's because my work roster also runs from Sunday to Saturday and I update the kitchen wall calendar with my shifts. I would feel completely lost if my calendar started with a Monday.

WheresMyMilk · 20/07/2020 21:38

Sunday starts the week for me - when I was at uni, the terms were split into numbered weeks, and each week began on Sunday. I’ve stuck with that approach in the many years since I graduated!

Darkestseasonofall · 20/07/2020 21:43

A nurses week starts on a Sunday, it's a bugger to find calenders and diaries that run like this not the union have stopped giving them out for free Hmm

BalanceGreen · 20/07/2020 21:43

I can't buy a calendar that starts on a Sunday - I like to see a weekend as a weekend e.g. if we're going away.

It's irritating and common, but I've learnt to always check before buying.

ThickFast · 20/07/2020 21:45

Loads of them start on a Sunday. It is so annoying I won’t even use a calendar that starts on a Sunday. Same when booking things online and the calendar starts on a Sunday. It’s so confusing.

I think I’d have to change jobs it would annoy me so much 😂😂
MondeoFan · 20/07/2020 21:46

I'm so glad you think this too. I bought one aswell couple years ago. It did my head in eventually. I purposefully looked for a calendar this year that started on a Monday.
It's just ridiculous otherwise

Oblomov20 · 20/07/2020 21:47

I too accidentally bought a diary for work that did. Hated it and binned it.
Why? Simply why? Twats!

nocoolnamesleft · 20/07/2020 21:48

Sunday was the first day of the week before the weekend really existed as a concept.
