I have the results of the first year of my BA (Hons) History degree and I passed all 3 modules with pretty decent grades. Studying it full time with Open University, so 2 years left. Fitting it in with full time and part time job, current divorce after 20 year relationship and family commitments.
I have told people my end of year results and had a couple of half hearted ‘well dones’.
I think because I am older than the average student (mid 40s), working and studying from home, no one thinks it’s a proper course!
AIBU to cheer for myself and say ‘Bloody well done, you are brilliant and that’s a massive achievement’?

And you did it during the year of plague!

Well done you!

Brefugee · 20/07/2020 19:01

Well done, OP - that's brilliant. People who don't see you day to day or don't have experience of the OU find it hard to imagine what it's like.

Mammyloveswine · 20/07/2020 19:01

Big well done from me! That's fantastic!

FadedRed · 20/07/2020 19:02

Well done you! ⭐️ It’s not easy to study at that level whilst working full time etc. Give yourself a pat on the back and sod the others!

AbsentmindedWoman · 20/07/2020 19:03

Well done OP! Allow yourself to enjoy your success!

Whenwillow · 20/07/2020 19:03

Well done! That's seriously impressive stuff!

Disfordarkchocolate · 20/07/2020 19:04

I've studied with the OU. Cake Cake Gin

You are amazing, it takes far more discipline than reading for a degree at a conventional university.

teablanket · 20/07/2020 19:04

Well done OP! You should be so proud of yourself, what an achievement!

Elieza · 20/07/2020 19:05

You’re a ⭐️
Congratulations. 🥳
You should be rightly very chuffed with your achievement. It’s fab 😀

Well done!

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 20/07/2020 19:05

I KNOW it's a proper course. Well done lovely, you've worked your socks off for that. Congrats. Don't enjoy the time off too much, it's always a bit nippy going back into it. StarGinCake

Dreamersandwishers · 20/07/2020 19:06

Well done you! I am in awe of those who can study, at home while juggling work & life full time. Give yourself a pat on the back.
Btw you ARE brilliant. Well done you !

Gossipgirl2 · 20/07/2020 19:06

Well done! OU study is not easy especially during these strange times. Be proud of yourself

DoctorDoctor · 20/07/2020 19:06

I've taught for the OU, students who like you are very busy, committed and determined. Well done - it's not a casual or easy thing to pass with decent marks. And all studying has been extra stressful this year as Pothole says.

HistorySuccess · 20/07/2020 19:07

Oh, I feel a lot better now Grin, thank you x

Congratulations!Amazing achievement, well done!

QuestionableMouse · 20/07/2020 19:07

Any degree is bloody hard work, so well done you! It's extra hard when you have a family.

Itwasntme1 · 20/07/2020 19:25

Brilliant - well done.

I don’t remember anyone being particularly excited about my results an university- I think it’s more of a personal achievement.

So pat yourself on the back and treat yourself to something nice as a reward.

The80sweregreat · 20/07/2020 19:28

Well done! !
It must have been tough and you held it together and passed it all!
Brilliant and ignore any negative comments.
Studying is much harder as we get older and have lots of other things going on more so than a teenager does usually!

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 20/07/2020 19:31

Well done! I have so much respect for people who do OU degrees.

Timesdone · 20/07/2020 19:35

It's a fantastic achievement, congratulations. DH did an OU degree when the DC were young and I saw the blood sweat and years that went into it, not to mention the iron discipline needed to stay on target and complete the course work. You're right to be extremely proud of yourself.

SeasonFinale · 20/07/2020 19:38

Congratulations OP. Onwards and upwards. Flowers

HistorySuccess · 20/07/2020 19:41

The plan is to finish the degree then train to be a teacher. (Always wanted to.)
Current job is fairly low paid, which wasn't a big problem before. Now I'm on my own though, I need a solid plan to support us all in the future. I'm having to convince myself I can do it (it's a little daunting) but I'm determined to prove the naysayers wrong and achieve something I'll be proud of. Nice to have the first hurdle over and I love History Smile so that's a bonus.

Well I think you've done brilliantly. I'm in awe of your motivation! and it's ok to feel proud of yourself, so well done you!

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 20/07/2020 19:46

Bloody well done Op, that's phenomenal! Keep going & you'll get there & realise all the struggles were worth it.
