What grown adult would wear this?

Why would you even model it?!

It reminds me of this Marks and Spencer horror from a few years ago - www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-4538764/The-dress-dividing-Britain-45-M-S-pink-number.html

It's been slatted in thrifting Instagram communities for green washing

PotholeParadise · 20/07/2020 21:09

20% is loads of battery! Don't look at my phone.

BrummyMum1 · 20/07/2020 21:11

It’s for the people suffering from chronic lockdown bingo wing syndrome.

eaglejulesk · 20/07/2020 21:18

I don't particularly like the dress, and wouldn't wear that colour - but I would wear it if the only other option was something skin tight!

We all have differing ideas of what we like to wear - why do so many on MN think they have the right to judge?

As for why the woman is modelling it - um, it's her job, she gets paid to do so

eaglejulesk · 20/07/2020 21:22

Oh well, if a teen doesn’t like it, let’s all bow down to her pearls of wisdom. From what I see around me, they’re the last people I’d be taking fashion advice from.

Best comment I've read all day! Grin

What's green washing?

chunkyrun · 20/07/2020 21:53

Slatted Grin I mean slated. Trying to jump on Sustainable ethical clothes by having a range but at the same time still being massively shit (ahem H&M) uses child labour to produce clothes.

ThatsHowWeRowl · 20/07/2020 21:57

Oh I see - yes, I can imagine a lot of companies are at that kind of stuff...

TheVamoosh · 20/07/2020 22:13

I like it. I'm so over "sexy" fashion. Modest is cool.

Greenwashing is when a company or product tries to state or imply that they are ecologically friendly when they are not.

AlphaJura · 21/07/2020 01:35

I've got a similar dress (different make) in black 🙈. I'm wondering if people feel I look preposterous in it now... I'm 40 but have quite a petite upper half, although I do have a bust. I wanted a checked one from new look, because I thought it looked nice on the real people but they didn't have my size so I went for a black one. I think it adds a bit of dressy style, but relaxed enough to hide my tummy which isn't as flat as it once was. I have had compliments from people when I've worn it though. Maybe they were being polite.

I don't think the photo you've shown is the best example of one of these dresses and maybe not in that colour. I quite like the puffy sleeves recently (and Diana's wedding dress!), I think it makes a change from boring flat sleeves with no structure.

Kokeshi123 · 21/07/2020 02:13

Tiny puffed sleeves can be adorable on a young woman. Enormous semi-deflated puffed sleeves (which is what they seem to be going for here) are a dreadful look.

Think "dainty Jane Austen frock" as opposed to "Ugly 1830s leg of mutton sleeves." The 1830s had the UGLIEST clothes ever.

Love this thread! Fashion news, analysis and history all in one place.

Thanks for the tip, OP. I'm ordering this dress as shown; I'm a commuter cyclist and need hi-viz clothes for the mean city streets. Further suggestions are welcome!

ThatsHowWeRowl · 21/07/2020 17:02

So I bought this dress today off the back of this thread! 😂 It's actually really nice, feel like it's just the right side of 'fashion' without being ridiculous. I got it in black though and feel like it probably would be a bit much (for me at least) in bright pink!

Diverseopinions · 21/07/2020 17:35

I'm liking the way the theme is being adapted, creatively, to match the tastes of different stylists. I googled 'puff sleeves', and as well as the over-blown romantic 1980s look which I think is to cover the body and feature a knees apart stance and the shoulder as erogenous zones, some ladies are wearing very tight dresses with the puffed out sleeve sort of emphasizing bust: it's familiar killer figure look with a twist. Then a relaxed puff is classic: a lovely one at John Lewis labelled ' Warehouse Puff Sleeve Midi Dress' (pink or green) which I'd love to wear. At least, whatever the take, the puff prevents sun burn!

Cloudspotter · 21/07/2020 17:38

My daughter loves this style, aged 14. I think it's great for teens.

crumpet · 21/07/2020 17:45

The puffy sleeves were on the catwalk /red carpet at least a couple of years ago, so this is the trickle down

Mummy2mybear · 21/07/2020 17:59

I like it.

Chig · 21/07/2020 18:30

It’s hideous.

She looks like a bag of candy floss Grin

MacBlank · 21/07/2020 18:30

Fuck knows, do they who wear realise people are laughing at them, even their man!

Wilkie1956mog · 21/07/2020 18:39

Horrible!

LovelyWeekAway · 21/07/2020 18:40

I always think these types of dresses are only for those 5 ft 10 and over

For us little stumpy short arses it’s a complete no go
