Most overrated TV shows you’ve ever seen

Inspired by the overrated movies thread, and also because I watched True Detective S1 (or some of it, at least) during lockdown. Everyone I know, online and in real life, raved about it, said it was one of the best shows they’d ever seen, and so on.
I was bored to tears with it. Made it to episode 5 out of 8 before I gave up, even though everyone talked about the ending and how it all paid off. I just didn’t care about any of the characters - I know the nihilistic setting was the point, but there was nothing interesting to detract from it. The central mystery/crime was not intriguing. I also hate misogynistic shows that pretend their misogyny is there to illustrate how patriarchal the setting is, when it’s really just an excuse to have lots of naked women on screen.

Phew...

So, anyway, what are your most overrated shows/series?

The walking dead was so overrated in my opinion. I ended up supporting the zombies.

Can’t believe how many people on this thread have the impression that Mrs Brown’s Boys counts as a highly rated tv programme.

But at least it has won a Bafta which means that it is rated by "the establishment". It's the repeated mention of Love Island and other reality TV shows on this thread which annoys me - no one is rating them as good TV! How can they be overrated, therefore?! I mean, someone has mentioned TOWIE ffs!

Cruising with Jane McDonald also won’t BAFTA as I recall.

I’m near the end of series two of The Wire and it’s good but Mark Kermode assured me it would be life changing. Not quite getting that so far tbh.

Didn't like Breaking Bad but Better Call Saul is far far better.

The Bodyguard. Why the fuss? And no Whitney Houston.

Game of Thrones. I enjoyed it. Even the last series. Given they had to freehand script rather than adapt they did a good job.

The Wire (and it's sister series 'The Corner' and also the related 'Homicide Life on The Streets') are superb.

Peaky Blinders. Snooze.

Big Bang Theory isn't funny and Sheldon is a dick. Bit like Friends, think people stopped being able to just say it's actually crap.

I've watched it several times, and that was my impression on later viewings. Believe me, I was a big fan at the beginning. I feel like I gave it a decent shot, thanks though.

Killing eve - 1st series good but Sandra Oh is a a shit actress and it just became more of the same

Mrs browns boys / unbelievably cringe tho DH loves it.

Lost - again was brilliant to begin with then went up its own arse.

Breaking bad - loved it to begin with but then got so depressing.

House of cards - was addicted to begin with but again, became ridiculous.

Fleabag, my friend told me to watch it as she found it hilarious, I was excited to watch it but i just couldn't get in to it.

Game of Thrones was probably my biggest disappointment. After everything I'd read and heard about it, I was anticipating something really gripping and bingeworthy. Instead, I found it unutterably boring. I watched about four and a half episodes of nothing happening before I gave up.

Peaky Blinders - again, boring. I watched a few episodes and barely remember them now, they were so dull.

Ozark - started well, I was really enjoying Jason Bateman in a grittier role than usual, but it lost its way after the first few episodes. Shame.

Killing Eve - spectacularly overrated IMO. But Miranda is my spirit animal and I love her.

I had the misfortune to watch one episode of Naked Attraction. Which I expect fills naturists with horror.

Father Ted was sublime.

I always thought Only Fools and Horses to be very overrated.

Totally agree, enjoyed the first series but the second was shite with all the bizarre and unconvincing flirting between Eve and Villanelle.

Also, AfterLife. Again loved the first series but didn't get further than the first episode of the second series. Just seemed too fake and forced.
