My teen DD has just had an ASOS order - i said off the cuff, "what would you do if they weren't around", which resulted In 😱😱😱😱😱

With so many shops and restaurants in vulnerable positions, what would you really, really miss if they didn't pull through the next year?

Waterstones and Pizza Express

The other Pizza chains don’t compare to PE and I find it the most family friendly. I try to buy books from Waterstones where I can but now with masks on public transport and in shops I can’t see myself making the journey with my kids

Lakeland and Thorntons

Collision · 17/07/2020 23:03

Absolutely nothing

Lockdown has made me realise I don’t actually need anything.

LouiseTrees · 17/07/2020 23:03

John Lewis again but vested interest as I have family who work there. Also any chain which is a client of my work I guess ( too many to name).

SwedishEdith · 17/07/2020 23:04

I'm surprised people are saying Pizza Express seeing as you can get the pizzas in the freezer section now as well as the dough balls

But there nowhere near as nice as the ones you get in the restaurants.

Boredbumhead · 17/07/2020 23:05

Meh. Honestly nowhere!

alltoomuchrightnow · 17/07/2020 23:05

Bravissimo...I honestly don't know what I'd do

CherryPavlova · 17/07/2020 23:06

I don’t want any shops to shut ideally but take the view that I’d they’re providing a service or selling things people want, they’ll survive.

If they cannot survive then it’s not much of a business or it hasn’t adapted with the times. I’d not want M&S, John Lewis, Sea Salt, Hobbs, Monsoon, Jigsaw, Jones shoes, Russell and Bromley, L’Occitane or Boots to go. I don’t want empty high streets.

purpleme12 · 17/07/2020 23:06

Well bravissimo better not go I'd have nowhere to get bras from!

victoriashleigh · 17/07/2020 23:08

In terms of ‘big’ brands (i.e. nothing local/independent) I would absolutely miss... John Lewis, H&M, Aesop, Wilko, Home Sense, Muji, Boots, Waitrose, The Works, M&S. They’re places I either love to wander around on a free afternoon or have things I buy on a regular basis.

PinkPlantCase · 17/07/2020 23:24

Our local John Lewis isn’t reopening 😭😭 I used the haberdashery so much and the store was so beautiful.

Oliver Bonas is another store I really hope survives. I’ve been buying random stuff in the hope they can pull through.

They currently have a 50% clothing sale if anyone else wants to help 😂

anappleadaykeeps · 17/07/2020 23:28

What do people think about WHSmiths' survival chances? I am intrigued they have already survived as long as they have.

Boots - hope they survive - I have always liked shopping in Boots.

RaymondReddingtonMrs · 17/07/2020 23:28

John Lewis and jigsaw!

scissy · 17/07/2020 23:39

Not so much for me but I want the Entertainer to stick around for DD's sake. She dutifully saves up her pocket money then spends it herself and the staff are always excellent with kids in our local one.

elliejjtiny · 17/07/2020 23:48

Soft play

purpleme12 · 18/07/2020 00:09

I hope soft play survives!

Purpletigers · 18/07/2020 00:10

I can’t say I’d be upset by any closures
I’d miss m and s , Waterstones and b and q .
I prefer independent coffee shops and restaurants and avoid chains tbh . I wouldn’t be sad to see the likes of Starbucks or Wetherspoons go under .
Online I’d miss Emma Bridgewater and Boden .

safariboot · 18/07/2020 00:14

My garage. I feel they're trustworthy and it's well placed too, I can drop my car off and get the bus from right outside straight to the office.

My dentist. They've been so good helping me overcome my dental phobia, and sorting out my teeth after over a decade of neglect.

My employer, obviously.

All those are independents. There aren't really any chains I care about. I could do with spending less, not more. I'd be kind of bummed if John Lewis collapsed, it's the only department store I shop in, but they've already closed their Birmingham branch anyway so I don't know when I'll shop in a John Lewis store again.

Happynow001 · 18/07/2020 00:31

@rosiethehen

I like Carphone Warehouse as we always get our phones from them and they're helpful when it comes to sorting out a suitable contract and swapping our stuff over.
Yes - me too! Which reminds me I REALLY need to upgrade my phone.
AntiHop · 18/07/2020 00:35

Debenhams. I buy almost all my clothes there.

LibrariesGiveUsPower · 18/07/2020 03:26

M&S it’s the only place I can get trousers that fit right!

Rubyupbeat · 18/07/2020 06:47

It was Long Tall Sally, the only off the peg shop that actually fitted my spider arms and legs, but sadly that's going.
I dont think there are any others I care much about.

maddiemookins16mum · 18/07/2020 06:56

Jet2.

Peccary · 18/07/2020 07:18

I would miss next as one of the few places that still keeps petite clothes in store.

Pizza express is one of the few places I feel comfortable taking DD (3) to eat in our town, I hope ours reopens.

We have good independents, most seem to have reopened
