My teen DD has just had an ASOS order - i said off the cuff, "what would you do if they weren't around", which resulted In 😱😱😱😱😱

With so many shops and restaurants in vulnerable positions, what would you really, really miss if they didn't pull through the next year?

Warehouse and Oasis...keeping my fingers crossed they will still trade on line! Where the hell am I supposed to buy clothes from if they don’t survive? Little bit of a cheer when we heard our John Lewis would be reopening at the end of July! JL closing would kill our city centre stone dead 😔. And I am 52 so too old for Top Shop/River Island generally but too young for M&S

LazyFace · 17/07/2020 20:31

Wagamama

Picklypickles · 17/07/2020 20:34

Dorothy Perkins - I think the only shop left in my nearest city that sells petite sizes I can just about afford.

whatever1980 · 17/07/2020 20:36

Hobbs for work clothes

However not sure I need them as much now I'm working from home

GreyGardens88 · 17/07/2020 20:41

Any airline
As PP said M&S food
Primark
I'm surprised people are saying Pizza Express seeing as you can get the pizzas in the freezer section now as well as the dough balls

Serin · 17/07/2020 20:41

Oakley.

scoobydoo1971 · 17/07/2020 20:43

Wilko...food, cosmetics, pet food, DIY, household items and garden stuff all under one roof. I love their click and collect service. They have been a life saver for me during lockdown.

40somethingJBJ · 17/07/2020 20:44

Next. It’s the only place I can buy jeans that fit me properly. I’d be gutted if they disappeared.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 17/07/2020 20:47

Fenwicks. Going to the Toon wouldn’t be the same. Boyes- a north eastern institution for all the stuff you never knew you needed.
Shops I wouldn’t miss-Urban overpriced Outfitters. (Sorry dd)
Fat Face-boring and so expensive.
Starbucks. Cold crap coffee, from tax dodging mermaids supporters.
House of Fraser-since the Mike Ashley takeover it’s woeful.

FishHasDied · 17/07/2020 20:48

@SillyUnMurphy

Do you know Cote Brasserie has a home delivery service (chilled food)?
DH and I have used it quite often recently and it’s been excellent.

Seasalt. Ethical and clothes that both fit me and look good. And last. Other than that little independent shops. Really sad to hear about EAT though. Our only one is at the airport so I used to factor in time for a marmite and cheese toastie

Oh yes I love Wilko, especially the larger ones that sell plants
SillyUnMurphy · 17/07/2020 20:50

@Mydogisthebestest OMG Grin haha
Although cote brassiere would certainly be interesting Grin

MrsTravers · 17/07/2020 20:56

Waterstones and John Lewis.

I was surprised to hear JL say that people didn't but big ticket items from them in lockdown. I tried to buy, in no particular order, laptop, vacuum cleaner, printer & sun loungers, all of which were out of stock (few laptops under £500). I appreciate they couldn't possibly have foreseen demand but I do wonder how much business they missed out on for lack of stock.

Thanks Fish. I’ll have a look

Crispsginchoc · 17/07/2020 20:57

Emma Bridgewater, M&S, Joules, John Lewis, Laura Ashley, Cineworld, Boots, Boden and I have to add Debenhams for my Mum, as she enjoys that store and I have nice memories of shopping there with her.

This is what I think too.

TM Lewis's has gone into liquidation.

Will Hobbs / Jigsaw etc still have the regular custom?

LUSH
Superdrug
Beauty Pie

Tbh, I only really buy cosmetics/food and rarely buy clothes

Monsoon (but i think they already gone into admin)

I would be sad if the Giggling Squid went bust. Ditto for restaurants in Chinatown. There is a part of me that would be sad if wetherspoons closed, but i really hate the owner so i might not be so sad.

TrulyOutrageousJem · 17/07/2020 20:59

Whistles & Pret

shinynewapple2020 · 17/07/2020 20:59

Next for me - always my go to for clothing, particularly as they sell so many different brands through their website .

lampygirl · 17/07/2020 21:05

Pret, M&S Food (and also M&S clothes tbh, I like their jeans and wooly jumpers) - so I can continue to waste money on pretentious meal deals even though I'd prefer to WFH at least half the week. This is where my lockdown savings have come from!
Sigma Sports - so I can spend more unnecessary money on new bits for my bike
Eurotunnel. Not sure if it's even at risk but I don't like ferries and I do like driving to the Alps
Alton Towers/Thorpe Park

I wonder if Next could become the Amazon of the clothing world? Like you say, their website is a platform for so many brands and their delivery service is very good (in my experience).

I haven't been into a Boyes for ages but yes, they're amazing.

Really hoping my village shop survives. I think they'll be fine but it would be a huge blow if they closed. I pop in quite often for their home made bakery 🤫😂😂
