My teen DD has just had an ASOS order - i said off the cuff, "what would you do if they weren't around", which resulted In 😱😱😱😱😱

With so many shops and restaurants in vulnerable positions, what would you really, really miss if they didn't pull through the next year?

Purplegloves · 17/07/2020 20:02

Ha! Posted too soon! *went under.

EinsteinaGogo · 17/07/2020 20:02

I would also miss shops that give great service.

I think John Lewis, Waitrose, I've always found most Next stores give good service.

I spent £££££ at Pret when at work - in fact, Pret just bought out Eat and changed them to Veggie Pret before lock down.

I won't be back jn the office until September. Will Pret still be there?

Oh John Lewis without doubt, but also Jigsaw. So sad Warehouse bit the dust.

MangoM · 17/07/2020 20:03

Apricot - I only discovered this shop recently and everything seems to just fit me perfectly, unlike other shops

Purplegloves · 17/07/2020 20:03

Agh! When Oasis went under. Sorry!

TimeWastingButFun · 17/07/2020 20:04

John Lewis. We get everything from there, we wouldn't know what to do!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 17/07/2020 20:05

Waterstones, Costa, Pizza Express.
Though to be fair I haven’t been to Pizza Express for years because the one near me is too marble and echoey.

It was announced yesterday that mine wasn’t reopening. Easons - Irish bookstore which also sells a lot of stationery/art materials. They are remaining open in ROI but not up north. I’m gutted, as are my DC. We will no longer have either a bookstore or a stationery store in our town.

Aside from already being devastated about Easons, I would be quite sad if Oliver Bonas didn’t reopen. I’d also miss Schuh and Sostrene Grene. Other than that I think it would be independent local places I’d miss most.

In terms of eating out I’d desperately miss Boojum (N.Irish people will know what I mean), but I’m certain they will be fine as they have just been announced as the most popular deliveroo restaurant during lockdown in NI.

DerekTheDodo · 17/07/2020 20:06

Wicksteed Park. I went there as a child and their current status is confusing. I don't understand if they've fully closed or what is happening.

dayswithaY · 17/07/2020 20:07

Strangely enough I second Debenhams. They've been around forever and I think people forget about them but when I was in there last they had some really nice things. I love department stores, just the idea of them is exciting - I'd hate it if they died out and we were just left with retail parks and supermarkets. I love Selfridges, Liberty, Harrods and if M&S ever go under then life as we know it will cease to be.

HumphreyGoodmanswife · 17/07/2020 20:09

John Lewis
Waterstones
Waitrose
Booths.. When on holiday. In fact, I'd like them to expand and build in my village especially for me so I can get my fix more than twice a year
Zizzi and Ask for DCs

JacobReesMogadishu · 17/07/2020 20:10

Wagamama, pizza express, Starbucks.

Katjolo · 17/07/2020 20:10

Liberty of London, Selfridges, M&S, Pizza Express, Miller and Carter, Waterstone's, Waitrose, Gregg's and Everyman Cinemas!

That's so sad.

I get LOADS of books from Amazon but still go at least once a month (pre-lockdown) to Waterstones because I want it to remain.

Wagamama and Nando’s are the main things I miss.

I also really worry for the little bagel shop underneath our office where I get my Friday treat breakfast from. I can’t imagine they’ve got many customers at the moment. I thought I’d be back in the office a few days a week soon but looking at the pages of complicated rules for going in I don’t think I’ll bother

Bunionbandit · 17/07/2020 20:15

M&S for sure & also M&Co, Boots, Topshop, Pizza Express.

PineconeOfDoom · 17/07/2020 20:16

John Lewis and Pizza Express. I can’t imagine life without either of them

yeOldeTrout · 17/07/2020 20:17

my local swim pool, followed by all swim pools

purpleme12 · 17/07/2020 20:19

Dorothy Perkins
The clothes tend to fit me in there!
Although recently I've not been able to find my size at all! Very annoying!

SewingDreams · 17/07/2020 20:19

John Lewis and M&S. JL in particular.

LakieLady · 17/07/2020 20:21

I'd never even considered the possibility of Waterstones going. That would just be the end of the world.

I go to a branch where the staff are really excellent at recommending books/authors and they've introduced me to some great stuff over the years. And browsing books just isn't the same online. Plus I boycott Amazon because of their disinclination to pay tax.

JoeCalFuckingZaghe · 17/07/2020 20:24

I used to be a John Lewis fan until they completely fucked us over on our wedding insurance / corona cancellations so they can go suck a dick and go bankrupt for all I care.

Most chains I think are replaceable too. I do love ASOS for convenience but they’re fast fashion and total shite for the environment so I’d like to move away from them anyway (it’s just hard buying ethically sourced clothes as a fat lass).

I do love Wagamama’s gyoza so I’d be gutted if they went under.

It’s the little indie shops I’d miss which are more likely to go under. There’s a shop in my town called very bazaar, I’d cry if they went under.
