Is it cruel to throw sea monkeys away?

MIL got the the kids sea monkeys for Xmas I've only been the one bothered about them. They freak me out more than anything and can't bare the thought of bringing them to the new house.

Are these the type of pets you give away? Are they pets I don't know 🤣

I spilt mine on the floor 😯

AlexandPea · 08/07/2020 21:29

We let ours run free in the local stream.

Heisenberg, Schroedinger and Ohm are driving around in a car. A cop pulls them over. Heisenberg is driving. The cop says, "Do you know how fast you were going?"

Heisenberg says, "No, but I know where I am!"

Cop says, "Well, you were doing 55 in a 35 zone."

Heisenberg: "Great! Now I'm lost!"

Cop makes them pop open the trunk (boot) of the car. "Hey, did you know you have a dead cat in here? "

Schroedinger yells, "We do now, damn it!"

The cop doesn't like their attitudes and goes to arrest them, but Ohm resists.

But OP didn't buy them, she just got lumbered with them by her MIL giving them to the kids.

She had the option of refusing them but she didn't. She looked after them for 6 months and now wants rid because she's moving into a sparkly new house. Great message for the kids that.

PablosHoney · 08/07/2020 21:34

Then I’m afraid @JRUIN you are a massive hypocrite, what makes your dog or cat more important than a pig for example? You are crying about shrimp potentially going down the toilet but would merrily eat them 😂😂😂 disassociation at its best.

Patbutcherismyhero · 08/07/2020 21:36

They breed like mad. Their life span is short but because they are always procreating you will probably have a supply of them for quite some time. Don't chuck them out, it's cruel.

It is bad for native waterways to put alien species in them. Please don't either flush them down the toilet or put them in a stream. If you have to get rid of them kill them properly (and quickly).

PablosHoney · 08/07/2020 21:41

They won’t survive out of salt water in any event

Actually I don't eat seafood. Also I am not crying about the shrimp, I am just concerned that so many people do not care about the example they are setting their kids. Teaching them that it is ok to callously discard of your PET when you get fed up of it is wrong.

zippityzip · 08/07/2020 21:42

@frosted I'm honestly picturing fancy mice with top hats and radish cigars. This is the thread that keeps on giving.

TJ17 · 08/07/2020 21:45

@FourTeaFallOut

They are so goddamned ugly. If I had a dog that looked like that then I'd have to flame thrower the fucker Ripley style rehome it.
@fourteafallout ffs 😂😂😂😂😂
PablosHoney · 08/07/2020 21:45

Eating animals sets its own example, so you don’t eat seafood but you do eat sentient animals! It doesn’t matter a damn whether you chose it to be your pet or not, you treat them as equal or you shush.

Ohtherewearethen · 08/07/2020 21:46

Good grief there is some nonsense on here. I can't believe the likes of JRUIN are serious? You eat meat but object to OP quietly disposing of some water fleas? All this wailing 'think of the children' - do you honestly think OP is going to get her children's Lego man tiny hammer and insist that they watch a hideous bloody massacre of their beloved pets as she bashes each one over the head and throws it in the bin? Or do you think she could just dispose of them quietly and gently explain to her kids, if they even notice, that they died?
You have absolutely no argument if you eat meat or kill flies/fleas/nits and you are actually making complete fools of yourselves.

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 08/07/2020 21:48

I'm still not sure what a sea monkey is other than it's a shrimp Grin.

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 08/07/2020 21:48

And that they look weird...

Cadent · 08/07/2020 21:49

Aww no way would I flush them or chuck them. I let spiders live in my house though (ever since I read that house spiders don't it outside) and take ants out to the garden.

I hate consciously killing insects and things.

TeddyIsaHe · 08/07/2020 21:50

This might be my favourite thread on MN ever.

I’m picturing people farming headlice on their children, inviting ants into their rescue homes with cake crumbs and never hoovering in case they suck up a carpet bug.

Radish cigars 😂😂😂 I cant cope!!

TJ17 · 08/07/2020 21:50

Shrimp lives matter !! 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

Look out for your posts over on the most OTT MN responses thread you load of crackers 😂😂

MsEllany · 08/07/2020 21:50

I’d just flush them down the toilet. I don’t care if anyone wrings their hands about cruelty. I really really don’t. I also put down any powder when we had ants and have sprayed flies before.

PablosHoney · 08/07/2020 21:50

@cadent and you don’t eat meat I presume 🦐💕

TJ17 · 08/07/2020 21:51

My fave is deffo "treat them as equals" 😂😂😂

PablosHoney · 08/07/2020 21:52

Shower them with love and affection

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 08/07/2020 21:53

@Cadent I assume you also let any parasites that may take up residence in your body live a happy full life in there too. Head lice, thread worm etc?

TJ17 · 08/07/2020 21:55

@pabloshoney I sincerely hope OP remembers to take them for their annual inoculations!
