Kasabian singer gets community order for beating up his partner

She was left bruised and battered and it sounds like he tried to strangle her. It was witnessed and reported to 999 by a child.

He will do 200 hours community service.

His actions are so shameful he has left the band but not shameful enough for him to do more than this as a punishment.

It sends out the wrong message completely to me.

Just to add, it felt like something was coming when the news he was leaving was released yesterday but the general tone was supportive of him and his struggles.

He'll probably re-join the band too in the not too distant future.

Arsehole

whattimeisitrightnow · 07/07/2020 12:44

Disgusting, but not surprising.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 07/07/2020 12:45

Gosh. How is that right!?

thepeopleversuswork · 07/07/2020 12:47

Yuck. There's a lot of it about.

MyOwnSummer · 07/07/2020 12:47

Wow. Community service, what the actual fuck?

We don't matter, we are only women. Mind you, the fucker who killed my friend only served four years so I am hardly surprised.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 07/07/2020 12:48

I can’t say I saw all the coverage, but the story on the BBC site very heavily hinted he hadn’t chosen to leave the band.

Tellmetruth4 · 07/07/2020 12:53

I hope the band actually chucked him out and it wasn’t mutual. 200 hours only? Poor woman. This will also stay either be child who witnessed it forever.

One of the original members of Queens of the Stone Age was kicked out for beating up his girlfriend....after Josh Homme beat the shit out of him for doing it first. No ‘mutual consent’ resignation bollocks.

Attitudes towards women have certainly worsened.

It really doesn't take that long for an entire society to change and attitudes towards women to harden. Just look at Afghanistan. 70s vs today.

ComDummings · 07/07/2020 13:04

The statement they released yesterday was worded in a way which meant people were giving empathy to Tom, many comments were saying to get well soon etc. I think it was very misleading and saying ‘personal issues...affected his behaviour for quite some time’ definitely minimises what he has done, which the band obviously knew about. That’s quite disappointing.

ExtremelyBoldSquirrels · 07/07/2020 13:06

There was also a statement he made (in Twitter) today thanking people for the support and saying he’s in a good place now.

It’s amazing how he’s pretty much turned himself into the victim here.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 07/07/2020 13:07

Yeah from their statement I honestly thought mental health issue. Very misleading. I hope he never returns. Absolute reprobate.

ExtremelyBoldSquirrels · 07/07/2020 13:10

From the statement yesterday DH and I assumed addiction issues.

But clearly it’s addiction issues plus being the sort of scum bag who beats his partner.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 07/07/2020 13:12

If he'd done that to some random onnthe street he'd be treated much more severely surely? Why is itndifferent with a partner :(

He's had the fucking audacity to post on Twitter that 'he's' fine.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 07/07/2020 13:17

I'm fucking fuming about this actually. Kasabian releasing that statement was cowardly and self interested. Stand up for the woman FFS stop protecting the violent disgusting man. Fuck I'm angry.

Exactly.
It's disgraceful.

MorrisZapp · 07/07/2020 13:21

Good god what a nasty little shit he is.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 07/07/2020 13:22

The statement made yesterday distanced the band from the individual but offered no condemnation of the actions. And for me, I'd have preferred a stronger condemnation of his actions because, frankly, men who beat women are just cunts and can claim "problems" and "I'm working on myself" but just don't fucking do it in the first place.

It's like an apology (even a simpering poor-me one) is enough to absolve anything if you're a mediocre male singer.

Anotherthink · 07/07/2020 13:28

I saw the announcement on Twitter yesterday and assumed it was mental health delayed and thought they were harsh to air his dirty laundry like that. Then saw his Twitter and felt sorry for him.

Should've known something else was to come. The blokes absolutely shameless.

popcornlover · 07/07/2020 13:37

I thought the band’s statement hinted at something sinister. Was disgusted that the daft NME wrote an article saying they were “rooting” for him, and even after the real reason for his departure was revealed, the article was still there online. It was glaringly obvious from the band’s statement that there was something more amiss than a few personal issues. Looks like the NME may have taken the daft article down finally after his conviction. Cowards.

Yes, I think he will probably rejoin the band at some point too.

200 hours? Pfttt.
