Kasabian singer gets community order for beating up his partner

Doyoumind · 07/07/2020 12:33

She was left bruised and battered and it sounds like he tried to strangle her. It was witnessed and reported to 999 by a child.

He will do 200 hours community service.

His actions are so shameful he has left the band but not shameful enough for him to do more than this as a punishment.

It sends out the wrong message completely to me.

I am amazed and disgusted at all the support he's getting on twatter. What is wrong with people?

Hingeandbracket · 07/07/2020 13:40

Apparently the judge said Kasabian fans will be "shocked and disappointed" to learn the disturbing details of the offence.

Evidently not enough of the fuckers, judging by Twatter.

ExtremelyBoldSquirrels · 07/07/2020 13:40

Well his PR people have primed it do that everyone is feeling sorry for poor old him and the dark place he’s been in.

Meanwhile a woman was seriously assaulted (in front of a child) by a man who was supposed to be someone who loved her and who she could trust.

Obviously that’s way less important than poor little him and his problems. 🙄

MonsteraCheeseplant · 07/07/2020 13:42

A lot of what I'm seeing on Twitter is anger at being mislead by the band's shit statement in all fairness

RJnomore1 · 07/07/2020 13:44

I wonder if the band had to be careful in advance of today’s court appearance.

RJnomore1 · 07/07/2020 13:44

The worst bit I read was that she didn’t support the prosecution and hoped to resume the relationship.

RJnomore1 · 07/07/2020 13:45

Sorry for the string of posts - just realised that sounded victim blaming when it wasn’t meant to.

NoWordForFluffy · 07/07/2020 13:47

It was a Magistrate, not a Judge.

Now I know the circumstances, it should've been sent up to Crown Court (assuming the charge allowed it) as that sentencing is woeful.

LauraMipsum · 07/07/2020 13:52

It was a common assault Fluffy which is summary (magistrates court) only.

Worstemailever · 07/07/2020 13:55

Well, apparently, he received a lenient sentence because his ex girlfriend said that she wanted to get back together with him (according to some media reports of the court case). In which case, I have less sympathy for the victim than I do for her poor poor child who witnessed domestic abuse and intoxication and then could be subjected to yet more!

Bmidreams · 07/07/2020 13:56

Me, me, me...

JellyfishandShells · 07/07/2020 13:57

Ah, that’s what the personal issues were. Had assumed it was rehab related.

NoWordForFluffy · 07/07/2020 14:00

Ah. Inadequate charge and sentence (due to charge) then.

Probably went for what they thought would stick.

ExtremelyBoldSquirrels · 07/07/2020 14:04

@LauraMipsum

Looking at the list of injuries, it could easily have been ABH instead.

But it’s only domestic violence; no need to bother a crown court with that.

@RJnomore1 It is sad that the victim didn’t support the prosecution - and that’s not victim blaming. It speaks volumes to a social context where domestic abuse is minimised and victims do not receive the support they should get. It’s hard enough not to blame yourself and to see your abuser for what they are, even without legions of support for how wonderful he is from fans etc.

BabloHoney · 07/07/2020 14:19

The band’s vague PR statement announcing that he was leaving the band for “personal reasons” resulted in thousands of well wishes from concerned fans. They KNEW that he would be revealed as a violent abuser less than 24 hours later. It’s absolutely awful all round.

CodyBurns · 07/07/2020 14:24

Jesus wept.

Once again the press collude in perpetuating the myth that alcohol/drugs/stress/mental health issues cause abusive behaviour.

There’s clearly still a very long way to go.

Backbackandforth · 07/07/2020 14:29

@ExtremelyBoldSquirrels ccs don’t have exclusive jurisdiction over ABH, even if charge of ABH first conviction of this type with mitigating factors would have likely been same sentencing, contusions below ABH unless extensive. Mags can only apply within the sentencing guidelines they’re given.

The law is woefully, woefully inadequate in dealing with DV cases.

notacooldad · 07/07/2020 14:31

One of the original members of Queens of the Stone Age was kicked out for beating up his girlfriend....after Josh Homme beat the shit out of him for doing it first. No ‘mutual consent’ resignation bollocks.
And then Josh Homme goes and kicks a female photographer in the face causing heavy bruising!🤷‍♀️

That's actually not unusual.
Milssofadoesntreallyfit · 07/07/2020 14:41

In theory yanbu obviously. In reality you do have unrealistic expectations.
There are so many people who do bad things there is or the prison space for them, the judicial system simply don't have the space to jail all horrid people.
Then look at the statements made, people like him can be given all the punishment in the world and it won't necessarily make him accept his wrong doing. So many keep reoffending.

I agree it's not enough for the people left behind but I could go on and on about the limitations of the system and the mentality of people like him and how it's nit that simple and I don't even work in criminal justice.
I do wish the punishment could be better but I can accept the limits of what is available, if I don't I end up disillusioned, bitter and angry.

Tellmetruth4 · 07/07/2020 14:46

Oh I didn't know about Josh Homme kicking the photographer. That’s shitty.

HepzibahGreen · 07/07/2020 15:00

200 hours. That's 5 weeks of full time CS.
I wonder how long that child will think about the time s/he had to call 999?
Probably a bit longer than than 5 weeks.
Scum like this always use an excuse-drugs, booze, anger problems.
Strangely they always seem to manage not to pick on someone their own size.
He's scum.

Doyoumind · 07/07/2020 15:20

That statement yesterday from the band was so cynical. They have made a lot of people who showed him support with his issues look very stupid and they have minimised and excused his behaviour. At least it does seem to have backfired on them.

I imagine the bands management were on rocky ground legally until he had actually been to court. Ideally management would then provide a follow up statement. I remember when the singer from Lost Prophets was caught management had to be very very careful until the court case had begun. Vile man.

Josh Homme may have issued a well written apology to the photographer he kicked, but you know, how about not kicking them purposely. He is also part of Eagles of Death Metal who are fronted by a proud racist who isn’t able to care for his own children due to drug abuse and he has been found guilty of threatening to kill a close friend. The bassist also returned to the band 10 years later, so it seems Josh Homme thinks DV only counts for a few years.

Perhaps she knows full well that leaving him means her child spends at least 50% of their childhood alone with that man? 🤷‍♀️

Assuming he wouldn't use his power and wealth to fight her for custody? These men would surprise you with their gall - and how forgiving and accommodating the family courts are to them.
