Where are those who predicted 18 months lockdown now

AfterAte · 05/07/2020 22:18

Firstly I realise that the lockdown in England is only being eases not ended. I am also aware that it is entirely possible there will be a second lockdown necessitated by a second spike. Finally, I am aware of and grateful for the sacrifices of those frontline workers, sad for those who have lost loved ones and both aware and grateful for the sacrifices of those who died in the 2 world wars and in other conflicts.

On 21st March on this website a thread entitled "How long are you expecting this to go on for?" was posted. Several posters speculated that "this" would last 18 months or longer and others also said there would likely be a war as well. I realise there has been terrible suffering and my mental health has been I impacted. However, rightly or wrongly, the lockdown is significantly eased and plans are being made for a near future which can in no way be described as lockdown. I wondered if any of those who predicted 18 months would like to comment here and perhaps admit that they were wrong. I'm afraid I still see their motivation as primarily to drag others down, so I'm not holding my breath, but neither am I prepared not to call them out. They've ruined MN, and they made an awful awful time worse.

I still see far more spite and nastiness from the so-called "anti dementors" than the "dementors." This thread is strange.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 06/07/2020 00:05

NHS trusts are preparing for a second wave

We are at work and hopefully shall have enough required PPE should we need it

And no that doesn’t make me happy I am exhausted it’s been incredibly stressful

The thought of working under such stress and ds schooling being so disrupted (not seeing friends, hours in his own) makes me want to cry

Guineapigbridge · 06/07/2020 00:12

OP, in kindness, have you had problems with mental health or perhaps even a diagnoses of being on the autistic spectrum before? I think the way you are thinking about this is not-ordinary.

Most people read other peoples' opinions on the internet and don't take them literally.

gluteustothemaximus · 06/07/2020 00:17

Thread: how long will covid go on for with lockdown

Answers: 18 months maybe

Thread: haha you were wrong! Admit it!

AfterAte · 06/07/2020 00:17

Are you this much of a control freak in real life too?

What positive spin is approved by you to put on all this? My best friend lost her dad today.

Who the fuck are you to decide your way of thinking is the right one. Everyone deals with things in their own way.

Your abusive language does not make you right, it just makes you sound like a bully.

BLM2 · 06/07/2020 00:17

@Guineapigbridge Why are you attempting to diagnose the OP?

I don't think she can expect apologies but she's entitled to her opinion & to express herself.

echt · 06/07/2020 00:19

They've ruined MN, and they made an awful awful time worse

MN isn't compulsory, OP.

Guineapigbridge · 06/07/2020 00:19

Not attempting to diagnose, I just think it's an odd way of thinking. And the fact that the OP seemed to respond well to an Aspie's post earlier in the thread.

BLM2 · 06/07/2020 00:20

Everyone deals with things in their own way.

Yes the OP is allowed that privilege too.

Who the fuck are you to decide your way of thinking is the right one.

The irony

Guineapigbridge · 06/07/2020 00:20

I think it must be hard to have the type of brain that says to you that you should apply, literally, the words of some random person on the internet.

BLM2 · 06/07/2020 00:23

So @Guineapigbridge because the OPs opinion is odd (in your eyes) it's appropriate to ask the below problems with mental health or perhaps even a diagnoses of being on the autistic spectrum

BLM2 · 06/07/2020 00:26

Are you not a random person on the internet?

RB68 · 06/07/2020 00:28

I said 18months although I meant in terms of being super careful - I knew lockdown would be 3 to 6 months depending on how well things went with compliance. 18 months was based on when first vaccines are predicted. For those with very vulnerable status I doubt whether they would be advised for general mingling till Christmas if I am honest. Many Mnay people have struggled mentally with this whole situation. I am dealing with it after my Mother passing away in November, and my Dad being in iso in Wales despite him being terminally ill as well. He is still here and I am grateful, I MAY get to see him again. Had a rough day with it today v upset. BUT life is just like this we need to be more resilient to these things. V Hard I know. If you really are struggling speak to your GP in the first instance.

Guineapigbridge · 06/07/2020 00:30

Yes I am a random person on the internet. You'll see that I asked if she was having problems or had a diagnoses, I didn't attempt to diagnose.

Why are you so invested BLM2? I hope I haven't offended you in some way and I hope you have a nice day.

RB68 · 06/07/2020 00:30

As to ruining MN and making an awful situation worse I can't take responsibility for your reaction - you have to do that. I was just being a realist

Thewordgame · 06/07/2020 00:31

I totally get where you’re coming from, I remember some of those negative posts, really predicting the worst case scenario resulting from covid. I used to stop reading them as they used to bring on symptoms of depression and anxiety, I am not placing blame on the posters as everyone has a right to voice what they think may or may not happen, I just wish there had been more people who had a positive outlook.

ResumetonormalASAP · 06/07/2020 00:32

The people that predicted 18 months are still here...

They also predicted a second wave after Easter.... VE day..... protests.....year 6 returning to school..... after people visited beaches..... and now after the pubs and hairdressers opened.....

The dementors have not left... they float around in the background spreading their doom and gloom and occasionally surface to say 'I told you so' or to shout murder or shriek at anyone who dares live a bit...

BLM2 · 06/07/2020 00:33

But why mention mental health & autism in such a negative manner, why mock?

Why can't I be invested? Why are you? you don't have to reply to my posts.

user1473878824 · 06/07/2020 00:34

Get a grip.

BLM2 · 06/07/2020 00:36

The dementors have not left.

Houseworkavoider · 06/07/2020 00:47

@ AfterAte
Might I suggest a cup of ‘calm the fuck down’?
Looks like it might help.

maggiethecat · 06/07/2020 00:51

I wish the government had had a crystal ball at the start of all this never mind MNetters. Truth is, no one had a scooby how this would all play out.

Jenasaurus · 06/07/2020 00:58

Surely a lot of people on MN made guesses gave opinions of how long they thought this would last, I dont understand your anger at these people, unless you cancelled a holiday or wedding because of it.

Please dont lose sleep over this, just be pleased its now easing and getting a little more normal again.
