Yorkshire or Scotland

Hi everyone, firstly I'm not sure if this is the right place to post?
But I've got some questions if anyone am help, we are planning on a staycation this year, we are travelling from London and are planning on going to a caravan park ( think haven etc) we can't decide between Yorkshire and Scotland. The park in Scotland we are thinking of are not far from Glasgow, but the big thing putting us off is the weather. We are going 17th August for a week. We've always wanted to go to Scotland but haven't been before. Can anyone tell me things to do around Glasgow, we can take day trips a big further too. What's the weather like at that time? Normally kids live the pool in the park but they won't be open this year , and I'm guessing it will be to cold for them to enjoy beaches in Scotland ? Also what about the midges, are they really bad at that time of year?
As for Yorkshire, again we've never really explored Yorkshire, can anyone recommend things to do there?
Where would you go ? I'd live to go to Scotland but really don't want it to be really cold or wet and miserable that would just ruin the "summer holiday "

Forgot to add I have 4dc ages 14,11,6,3

Thanks so much

I think they had to be able to clear all their debts or else they would have had to close permanently, but it's horrible the way they went about it, leaving it until the day before payday before making them redundant. Then I heard they put the business into another family members name.

Make sure you look into the current situation re: coronavirus before you come, as its different here. Eg masks will be compulsory in shops from Friday.

wheretogothisyear · 09/07/2020 13:49

@ChangeThePassword yes im aware if the face mask thing I'll have a Proper check before we come to make sure we are up to date thanks

I'm impressed! I find it hard enough to keep track of what one country is doing, never mind two.

wheretogothisyear · 09/07/2020 18:40

@ChangeThePassword haha year I know it's hard, face mask is the I my thing I know about Scotland. It's hard keeping us definitely x

Thought of you OP when I saw this. Great ideas, also if you want to stop somewhere enroute.

Yorkshire or Scotland

@BilboBercow

OP don't take your kids to Craig Tara. It's rough as fuck. Also you really aren't THAT close to Glasgow in Ayrshire, over an hour in the car and lots of windy roads.
Yeah, I agree with this. It's rough.

Does it have to be haven?
Have you tried petticur bay in fife? They have a leisure centre with swimming pool, entertainment etc and it is really close to 2 beaches (kinghorn and Burntisland beach) Burntisland is a blue flag beach.

20 mins on the train to the centre of edinburgh, also about an hour drive from the best fish in chips in Scotland if you fancy a trip to Anstruther.

Goingdownto · 10/07/2020 07:45

Given the OP has already booked Craig Tara, maybe we could lay off with the advice?!

wheretogothisyear · 10/07/2020 09:51

@Puffalicious oooh thank you so much I will definitely be looking into that.

@littlefrieseverywhere I've already booked now but thanks. Tell me more about the beat fish and chips place, that's my kind of talk 🤣

drive up the coast to largs and get the ferry to cumbrae . Can cycle round the island.. bike hire place .

Nicknacky · 11/07/2020 23:53

Don’t go to M&D’s if it is open by then, it’s an absolute shitehole and not cheap! I love theme park rides but I wouldn’t get on them as they are a death trap.

Goingdownto · 12/07/2020 08:25

I'm not sure that's fair - there was a terrible crash on the tsunami ride 4 years ago and ten people were injured (no fatalities) but that ride shut and there are lots of other ones. OP has dc at an age for enjoying it. There have been awful accidents at most theme parks - it's the kind of thing I like to google before I visit Blush

Nicknacky · 12/07/2020 11:15

It is fair. My H was on the ride where your legs dangle (that might have been the one that crashed) about two years before the accident. Every second seat was weighed down with water containers for some reason.

I refused to go on it, god knows why he did.

And the other main roller coaster was so so rusty with weeds really high. It all looked so unkempt and uncared for.

UsernameNotValid · 12/07/2020 14:13

I grew up near M&D's, I agree it's an absolute hovel - the staff (i.e. local teens with an hour's training on each ride) were clueless about safety and were left mainly unsupervised.

We had to get off the kamikazee ride (the 2 banana shaped cages that swing upside down) because some of the overhead harnesses opened halfway through and people were being held in by the lap belt only, the staff found the screaming funny and only realised they should stop about 3 secs later when more and more people shouted! The big wheel door lock was broken on another visit and it swung around in the air, another time a worker forgot to clip the secondary buckle on a ride that held the overhead harness in place.

I'd like to think it's better now but can't say I was surprised to hear about the rollercoaster crash a while back!

Mum6546 · 12/08/2020 11:41

There's treetop trial courses at Craufurdland estate near Kilmarnock so not too far from Craig Tara. Similar to Go Ape but much closer. If you're going to Heads of Ayr Farm Park you'll need to book in advance, they're really busy. Weather's great here at the moment. Not too sure about next week though.

wheretogothisyear · 12/08/2020 12:19

@Mum6546 oh I wish I was there this week I'm dying of heat here in London it's been 34-35 for the last week I'm counting the days until we come . Thanks for the tip I'll give it a look. Any other good recommendations for things to do and see around there ?

There's a page here with some places to go. I think Culzean needs booked at the moment too. www.whatsonayrshire.com/

Mum6546 · 12/08/2020 12:34

I don't envy you in that heat, it was difficult to sleep here last night and its nowhere near as hot as London.

wheretogothisyear · 12/08/2020 16:22

@Mum6546 aw that's fantastic I'll have a look at the page thanks so much x
