Is anyone else boycotting Tesco's for giving £80,000 to Mermaids?

Just that really... I was shocked, especially given all the news coverage there has been about the issues recently. I would have expected them to give it to an uncontroversial charity at the very least - and ideally one that most of their customers would like to support

Again - on this thread? That's all you take away from what I've said?

You responded to my comment about the use of the term “Karens” on this thread so yes, on this thread.

Unless you want to drag in other things someone somewhere might have said sometime in the past on another thread or even another forum in another country. Which strikes me as somewhat pointless.

@LemonadeAndDaisyChains

as people have come to FWR saying how the arguments on MN have woken them up to what's going on. Perspective, again

Yes, but there's people who are "woken up" the other way too - they see the pile ons, they see the gaslighting, the twisting....
So all good.
It's up to the individual what they see.

Do you think this actually happens? For reals? 😳
BaronessSnippyPantsofCroneArmy · 06/07/2020 16:07

@BaronessSnippyPantsofCroneArmy

"You only have to look at the online and offline behaviour of some Mermaids volunteers to see they should not be around children. (One volunteer at a march this weekend proudly chanting 'trans rights or fist fights', or the one who made a YouTube video -since removed- about what he likes to insert in his anus)."

Did you miss this bit Lemonade? Some seriously dodgy people hang around these 'charities'.

I note someone got my post deleted, but I also note Lemonade still hasn't answered my question.

Should Tesco be giving money to a group that sends worried families to buy life altering drugs from a struck off doctor
as Mermaids does?

Yes or no?

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 06/07/2020 16:08

Lemonade I'm confused by that reply.

Again, I'll turn it round on you. Of all the times I've tried to discuss actual issues that's all you take away from what I've said?

I'd love to hear you add something constructive.

No

I don't think, I know.
As people have told me. There was a thread a while back where it played out across the thread (what trans women should be called on MN one).
Just one provable example.
Then there's me (I know both are anecdotal) but that's just two off the top of my head.
There's been others too. That doesn;t suit others narratives though so know it'll get ignored.
Which is fair enough

Repeat of some of the pertinent questions awaiting answers from our pro Mermaids posters:

*Is the medicalised pathway appropriate for children?
**Can anyone say definitively that puberty blockers are safe?
*On what basis would signposting to the Webberley’s be appropriate?

Also
What are they doing to highlight the connection with the increase in referrals for those children with ASD?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/07/2020 16:12

Let's at least have the courtesy to stick to the OP in the last 15 posts on the thread.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 06/07/2020 16:13

Posting pornographic type pictures and generalising might have had something to do with it going?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/07/2020 16:14

That picture was sent to a 78 year old woman on Twitter because the person felt she was in opposition to "trans rights".

Thoughts?

BaronessSnippyPantsofCroneArmy · 06/07/2020 16:15

Still nobody willing to defend Mermaids having volunteers who threaten violence against women or talk about their sexual fetishes on YouTube? Nobody? No?

Safeguarding. A practice that a lot of people seem to want to undermine. And yes, I will judge them for it and hope they are allowed nowhere near children or vulnerable adults.

Same here.

How is it appropriate to encourage children to define their gender by the toys that they play with or their clothing/hair choices?
How is it appropriate that in the course of educating children about 'gender' that you educate them that they may be in the 'wrong' body?

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 06/07/2020 16:17

Well, that's a loaded, opinion biased question if ever I saw one.

I would like the answers.....

I’ll probably die waiting.

Winesalot · 06/07/2020 16:17

Oh sorry, I bolded my two new questions that I wanted the derailer non-contributors to answer? Or anyone really?

BaronessSnippyPantsofCroneArmy · 06/07/2020 16:18

@LemonadeAndDaisyChains

Posting pornographic type pictures and generalising might have had something to do with it going?
There was no generalising and the picture was edited. I guess some people just don't want to be confronted with what people on 'their side' of the argument are actually doing in an effort to make women SHUT UP ABOUT SAFEGUARDING.

Right side of history my arse...

Are you denying this has happened?

Ninkanink · 06/07/2020 16:18

Keeping it on topic, please could someone post the name of the Professor who is an expert on autism/ASD as I think it would be good if people who want to research Mermaids are also made aware of his comments on the issue of current trans ideology being helpful/unhelpful to children and young people who are on the spectrum. His name completely escapes me just now! Confused
