Just that really... I was shocked, especially given all the news coverage there has been about the issues recently. I would have expected them to give it to an uncontroversial charity at the very least - and ideally one that most of their customers would like to support

OP posts:
GreytExpectations · 06/07/2020 15:28

Why not? It was a throwaway comment, talk about making a meal of something.

No, it's an offensive and homophobic comment. It's shocking you can't see that

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/07/2020 15:29

Why is it homophobic? Is the rainbow symbol all gay and lesbian people? Or a political banner?

GreytExpectations · 06/07/2020 15:30

Oh ffs it's like talking to brick wall
PotholeParadise · 06/07/2020 15:31

If someone was arguing about the acts of the British empire and utterly refusing to admit the native peoples had ever been exploited by the UK, I might ask if they had Union Jacks stuffed in their ears.

I would mean that you werenot engaging in discussion and were acting as a closed-eared patriot. Totally wedded to what you thought of as the cause.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/07/2020 15:32

That doesn't stop me accepting trans women as women though.
They're legally seen as female even if you don't like that fact.

No, they aren't. A small proportion of them have the legal fiction of a GRC. There are potential exemptions to treating them as their acquired "gender" in both the GRA and EA.

The rest are legally classed with their birth sex.

DressesWithPocketsRockMyWorld · 06/07/2020 15:32

The amount of times I see Mermaids being recommended by professionals is worrying.

PotholeParadise · 06/07/2020 15:32

Would you like to make a constructive comment, or are you just going to try and coopt disabled people's rights again?

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 06/07/2020 15:33

No, it's an offensive and homophobic comment. It's shocking you can't see that

At one point on here I'd have been shocked, but it's more a sad "I'm not surprised" especially when you look at the name. Not surprised at all. Absolute flat out refusal to see as usual, then people are like "but why won't you engage, why why?"
This, people - this thread. This is why.
As I said even if it's pointed out it's don't be daft, it didn't mean that, talk about making a meal out of nothing!
No.
More and more people seem to be seeing it too lately which is good.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 06/07/2020 15:33

I do find it interesting that there is a real unwillingness to answer the questions about Mermaids approach.

Is the medicalised pathway appropriate for children?
Can anyone say definitively that puberty blockers are safe?
On what basis would signposting to the Webberley’s be appropriate?

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 06/07/2020 15:34

Grin Yup Like trying to plait fog or nail jelly to a wall frickin impossible lol
Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/07/2020 15:35

Yes, you are. Does the fact that Stonewall refuses to say that it's ok to only be attracted to the same biological sex not cause you any concerns? All one happy rainbow community?

Yes, an important set of questions which have so far gone unanswered by the posters disagreeing with the OP. I hope in the dying throes of this thread that they will be, but I think it's telling that they haven't been.

FamilyOfAliens · 06/07/2020 15:37

So the image of a rainbow now belongs to the LGBTQIA+ community?

Has it been copyrighted?

Just that you might want to have a word with the NHS about that.

amijustparanoidorjuststoned · 06/07/2020 15:38

Tesco honestly won't miss any of your custom.

Quite. Such a meal made out of one turn of phrase.

Yes, you are.

Sorry, what? Yes you are? What, the poster is talking to a brick wall?
Glad you clarified then if so Confused
You're making even less sense

@LemonadeAndDaisyChains as posters who I thought might actually ‘listen’ I’m disappointed that you neither acknowledged or even saw my posts asking for collaboration, or at least a conversation. You seemed to be much more interested in ‘gotcha’ which is sad when we’re talking about medicating children.
LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 06/07/2020 15:41

Oh, come off it!!
As I said in my post, in this context, our rainbow stuffed ears aren't going to be in a "Clap For The NHS" context, is it?!
Jesus Christ.

Also
What are they doing to highlight the connection with the increase in referrals for those children with ASD?

But other people's rainbow stuffed ears equally could be, now that it's also become a symbol of the NHS. The NHS isn't beyond criticism, any more than the LGBT lobby groups are.

FamilyOfAliens · 06/07/2020 15:44

So we agree for once, lemonade.

Claiming that the phrase “rainbows stuffed in your ears” is homophobic is ridiculous.

Hallelujah.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 06/07/2020 15:45

Bloody hell, there's some bonkers reaching and twisting of posts going on here, why can you never, ever see what you do? Grin
