To think hairdressers are CF?

Passing on PPE charge to customers.

Angry

Have been going 30 years to this chain.

In the last 10 since going grey, I've visited every 17 days damn you fast growing hair currently £58 per visit. Then hair cut every 3 months at approx another £50.

AIBU to think they should absorb this cost?

My hairdresser has asked all her clients to bring their own mask/PPE. No added costs from them.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 04/07/2020 12:45

Why don't you go once a month for a colour and a trim?

Other than that you have 2 choices.....Don't go.....Pay the money. It's up to you really.

Honeyroar · 04/07/2020 12:46

Lots of things are going to be more expensive. It’s just something we’re going to have to get used to.

Fatted · 04/07/2020 12:46

For someone who can afford to pay the better part of £120 every month on their hair, I think you have a cheek.

They have absolutely seen you coming OP. Either go elsewhere or use a box dye like the rest of us.

JacobReesMogadishu · 04/07/2020 12:46

Wow! If you can afford to get your hair cut every 17 days at £58 a pop you can afford a bit of ppe.

Not unreasonable at all. Hairdressers will be losing money compared to normal times, they cannot fit as many people in as usual. Even without ppe contribution I imagine many will go bust over the next few months.

If you’ve been going thjs long you must like them.....what will you do if they go bust? What if most hairdressers go bust?

m0therofdragons · 04/07/2020 12:47

They’ve not been able to work for months and now you think they should absorb extra ppe costs so essentially take a pay cut? Wow Hmm

IwishIhadaMargarita · 04/07/2020 12:48

You want them to work and to do so safely they need ppe.Colour every 17 days? I have fast growing hair and do mine once a month.

Smallsteps88 · 04/07/2020 12:49

Of course YABU!!

Every single public facing business is having to buy PPE and they will all be raising their prices in one way or another to cover the costs. Get used to it. This is the new normal. This equipment is to keep you safe during your visit to the hairdresser. If you weren’t attending they wouldn’t need the gloves and masks for your visit. Hair dressing is a luxury expense, you dont need to go there if you don’t like the costs. It’s not like a dentist. Also If you can afford £58 a fortnight for hair you aren’t struggling.

areallthenamesusedup · 04/07/2020 12:49

AUNTYBESS

Completely missing the point of the whole thread but have you tried L'oreal root sprays? I used to have to go very, very regularly like you because my hair grey hair grows at a ridiculous pace.....they have literally changed my life (and my bank balance).

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 04/07/2020 12:49

I agree. However what are doing in there every 17 days. You hair style can't be that great, surely.

AuntyBess · 04/07/2020 12:50

To clarify I go to get my horrendous grey roots done.

And yes I do need to go that often as the look shit if I don't.

£5 extra per visit.

It's not the actual cost Hmm, rather the principle.

I'm absorbing the extra costs that my business is facing.

ilovemyrednosedaymug · 04/07/2020 12:51

Hairdressers are running at half the capacity due to spacing issues and cannot have so many people in at the same time, so no more "one under the dryer while you prep the next one" sort of thing. They then have to clean everything down in between customers, change the PPE so it is fresh each time. All of this means reduced sales with higher costs.

They may have had the £10K grant, but they have had to continue to pay rent, insurance, electricity, water, phone line/broadband etc while being closed for over 3 months.

I don't think you understand the concept of running a business, which is to make a profit. Most businesses have very small margins anyway. Your sale price has to cover your costs. If those costs have increased due to PPE, then the sale price has to increase too.

WorraLiberty · 04/07/2020 12:51

I literally just booked an appointment a couple of hours ago.

I was told to bring my own mask and gloves.

sanityisamyth · 04/07/2020 12:51

You get your hair cut every 2.5 weeks? I probably get mine cut every 2.5 years!! Seems madness.

isabellerossignol · 04/07/2020 12:52

I think if you are dissatisfied you should vote with your feet and go elsewhere. They have a right to set their prices as they see fit, you have a right to choose to pay them or not pay them as you see fit.

Barbie222 · 04/07/2020 12:52

Either pay more or get a cheaper hairstyle? It's a necessary cost and your hairdresser wouldn't need it without clients so clients need to pay.

JudgeRindersMinder · 04/07/2020 12:53

So by my very rough calculations you’ll have saved about £250 by not shelling out £58 every 17 days yet you’re moaning about having to cover the cost of PPE.
Have you actually listened to yourself?

Gwenhwyfar · 04/07/2020 12:53

They can charge what they want. They're selling a luxury service that we can take or leave.

GabriellaMontez · 04/07/2020 12:53

£5?!!! I came on to say YABU but that's too much. What kind of PPE are they using!?

Whenwillthisbeover · 04/07/2020 12:54

Our dentist has sent an email out saying that patients will be charged £7 per visit on top of their normal charges for PPE until the government revises its use.

It is what it is. someone has to pay for it, I am fully expecting an increase in charges when I have mine done next week, less customers through the doors at once due to social distancing, no drop in customer etc. These services can't afford to take the hit.

zafferana · 04/07/2020 12:54

So touch up your own roots OP! No one is holding a gun to your head and MAKING you go to the hairdressers every 17 days. What have you been doing for the past four months? Why not continue doing that?

user1497207191 · 04/07/2020 12:54

People will have to pay more for lots of services now. It’s that simple

Yes, people are going to have to accept this fact. The days of the "pile em in" for hospitality, events, attractions and personal services are over. Fewer customers is the inevitable outcome, but overheads will be the same or higher, so higher prices WILL happen. Maybe not immediately as businesses start to get back open again, and there are still grants, loans, etc available, but in the long run, I think we'll see lots of things become more expensive.

vanillandhoney · 04/07/2020 12:54

Use a box dye for grey roots if you're that bothered.

Some businesses can't afford to absorb the extra costs. Bring your own mask and gloves etc. if you're that bothered.

AuntyBess · 04/07/2020 12:54

Thanks, everyone seems to have handed me my study arse.

I think it's just the contrast between my business absorbing PPE costs and necessarily reduced footfall for safety, and this industry not absorbing.

They're also saving on hot brink costs Wink

OP posts:
Originalyellowbelly · 04/07/2020 12:55

Dentists are doing the same. We are going to be paying a higher price for a lot more things in future, I thought most people realised this.
