Passing on PPE charge to customers.

Angry

Have been going 30 years to this chain.

In the last 10 since going grey, I've visited every 17 days damn you fast growing hair currently £58 per visit. Then hair cut every 3 months at approx another £50.

AIBU to think they should absorb this cost?

Sorry OP I think YABU too. My SIL is a hairdresser and has had to fork out a lot for not only PPE but for Covid Secure courses and certificates etc, plus, as she has her own salon but is the only worker she'll have to deep clean I between clients, therefore seeing less customers than she would normally.
Ps to all the PPs saying bring your own PPE, I think the OP meant the hairdressers PPE and not the customers Flowers

I think this is a mentality born out of taking things like our wonderful NHS for r granted.

My sister is a vet and regularly gets complaints about their itemised bills including things like latex gloves - basically because we're used to heavily subsidised healthcare, we're just outraged than a business should charge the customer for stuff which they use.

YABU OP. Suck it up and pay.

Barney60 · 05/07/2020 22:40

Is the PPE for you or hairdresser? Sorry but its not clear.
You should take your own, hairdresser should supply their own. I do not think you should be paying for theirs.
Go elsewhere if they are expecting you to pay for theirs!

They have been shut, losing money for months, they have had to shell out for masks, screens etc. Please stop moaning or go somewhere else. They are trying to run a business

Amusicalinterlude · 06/07/2020 00:33

I'm self employed and will soon have to spend a shed load of money (guessing £1500 so probably more than a hairdresser would spend on PPE) on equipment which means I can work in person again. I won't be passing that on to my clients yet but will be keeping an eye on things for the next 12 months (redundancies in my local area etc.)

How much does your hair grow to have to dye it every fortnight??

wowfudge · 06/07/2020 10:42

Oh do give it a rest berating the OP for how often she has her colour done. It's just boring now. My hairdresser's have posted that there will be a £5 charge if customers use the PPE provided by the salon. I take that to mean a mask and possibly a disposable gown. I have my own masks and will need to wear one on the train there.

It's perfectly normal for a business to factor in all of their overheads when deciding on their selling prices. It's how they cover their overheads, make a profit and grow a successful business, urs nothing new.

They aren't hairdressing to do you and other customers a favour, they are doing it to turn a profit a d make a living. Their cost go up, prices go up otherwise they loose money and go out of business.

It has to be this way, who the hell will go through the stress of running a business to not make money and only do it for the benefit of others. Even charities have to cover costs.
I have ran a business for 10 yrs and thus has to be the biggest bug bear, people thinking that we are doing it for the live of ita and willing to do many things for nowt.

Sometimes it makes good business sense but only when rewarding very loyal high spending customers. Not so much good business sense when it's taken for granted an just expected by customers, that's a sure fire way of flushing your business down the drain.

Jumblebumblemess · 06/07/2020 16:56

I went to the gp for a blood test today and they had a sign up saying if you didn't have your own mask they would charge you £1 or reschedule your app!

linsey2581 · 06/07/2020 20:01

You get your hair coloured every 17 days!!! You clearly have more money than sense. That's probably why your hairdresser is charging you extra for the PPE.
