Passing on PPE charge to customers.

Angry

Have been going 30 years to this chain.

In the last 10 since going grey, I've visited every 17 days damn you fast growing hair currently £58 per visit. Then hair cut every 3 months at approx another £50.

AIBU to think they should absorb this cost?

But you did..you booked I on the first day in that case, which you made a point of me "assuming" you did so, pretty sure you said please point to where I said I'd booked an appointment on the first day..and maybe you should change your headline/title then as you literally put "CF hairdressers" might want to rethink your wording. It's funny that you say you have evolved in this thread but yet you haven't spoke to or replied to mode people who disagree with you..and singled out the person who relies on word of mouth to help her keep her job. I work damn hard at what I do and people like you will damage the whole of the hair and beauty industry of you keep talking crap like this about a "problem" that isn't necessary or even a problem. Just because you'd rather have them absorb the cost that is minimal to you and your there every month atleast, you'd think you'd show a bit of humility and even loyalty but no just jump on them ffs it's a joke!! I can assure you I will.most definitely be taking care and staying safe as I will be wearing the correct PPE and WILL NOT be charging got it as you firstly presumed. All the best in your future..you will need it with the pessimist attitude you have.

BessMarvin · 05/07/2020 13:56

From one Bess to another!

You can't win. I've seen other posters get ott ranty about people who do tag them in replies because it breaks their rule of you don't tag someone if they are already on the thread. This seems to be their invention though since lots of users do this.

Cutesbabasmummy · 05/07/2020 17:27

No I think it's entirely reasonable. My chiropractor charges for a mask if you dont take your own. Why should they earn less? They are working twice as hard as before.

Carriecakes80 · 05/07/2020 17:36

Sorry but I reckon if you can afford to go every 17 days, you can afford their PPE charge.
They are keeping the place safe for you, and they never asked for Covid.

A hair cut or colour is a luxury not a necessity, don’t like it don’t go

It isn’t a luxury. Trust me.

Yeah, that'll work out for the hairdressers.

RedToothBrush · 05/07/2020 17:59

Luxury
a state of great comfort or elegance, especially when involving great expense.

Necessity
something necessary or indispensable: food, shelter, and other necessities of life.

I am fairly sure given that many people have survive the past 3 months without hair dye and haven't keeled over and dyed, that it is not a necessity.

I think you’ll find that many have, indeed, dyed. They have mostly used box colour.

My son is a self employed hairdresser. He wasn't entitled to the SE grant due to having not been SE long enough. He is currently working 7:30am - 10pm to fit as many clients are they safely can in a day. He walks to work to avoid the risk of public transport: he has a mask, visor, gloves and disposable towels. They're expensive. Salons were one of the first things to get hit and one of the last things to reopen. Suck it up or do your own hair.

Giraffey1 · 05/07/2020 19:00

I feel sorry for hairdressers. Even the smallest salon has had to shell out a lot of £££ to make sure they can operate safely and within the rules. And will not be able to see so many customers each day. And you want them to suck up all the costs? Think that would be fastest way for them to go out of business ....

cherish123 · 05/07/2020 19:23

If you can't afford the extra or don't want to pay, could you bring your own

cherish123 · 05/07/2020 19:23

?

Clark2016 · 05/07/2020 19:25

How do you know they are passing the PPE charge over to the client's? Have they told you this? I know most salons have added a few quid on to the colouring cost, because they will be using more colour. Everyone has a much bigger root area to cover!

winniestone37 · 05/07/2020 19:25

No not cheeky. Shakes head and humans.?

Alsohuman · 05/07/2020 19:29

A decent haircut is a necessity for me. I’d sacrifice a few meals to pay for it if I had to.

pilates · 05/07/2020 19:48

Wow some darn right nasty posters on here tonight. Don’t think you deserved the abuse you have received op.

My hairdressers has told me they're charging more because of PPE and the other arrangements which mean they can have fewer clients in at the same time. I've been dying my own hair so that will cause complications, but won't mean I have a larger area of roots to dye.
Boxerbinky · 05/07/2020 19:52

I have a friend who is a hairdresser and she put on fb a few weeks before reopening about the extra courses she and her staff had been taking in lockdown to prepare, the PPE costs, ability to see less customers and no walk ins etc. She said she would have to put costs up and wondered what her loyal customers thought, as she was concerned she would lose customers. Everyone that responded understood the situation and said they would not be going elsewhere. I think all salons will be in the same boat if they are following guidelines properly.

sunflowersandtulips50 · 05/07/2020 19:54

I dont mind paying a little extra so my hairdresser can keep afloat. They are also having to pay for PPE, reduced service due to social distancing. You may want to reduce the frequency of your visit. I use root spray to prolong my trips as there costly

Lovely13 · 05/07/2020 20:09

Assume OP is having her roots done every two weeks. There are some good sprays available to disguise growth so you can last longer between visits.
I’ve let my hair go grey, and love it. Looks and feels so much better. Keep it longish, so needs cutting only every few months. Another consideration for you!

ToftyAC · 05/07/2020 20:16

Sadly they’ve lost a lot of money and even though theyre open now, they still can’t do as many seats as they would normally. I’m afraid the cost has to be passed on or they’ll go under. We have to suck the mop momentarily.

Alipaules33 · 05/07/2020 20:45

No offense OP but you’ve saved a fortune not going the past few months!! They’re just trying to stay in business.

SweetPetrichor · 05/07/2020 20:47

If you can afford such regular appointments for vanity, you can afford to pay the PPE surcharge.

keffie12 · 05/07/2020 21:03

The whole point of any business is they charge for overheads and that includes this. Then they add on there cost for the service. They aren't a charity. I'm fully expecting mine to go up when I see her on Tuesday
