To report this person to their employer for hate speech?

I've attached a screenshot - I am not friends with this person. She does however display her work on social media and she is in her uniform with her lanyard on display in her profile picture and in other photos which are accessible to the public.

It's NHS Values Week and I feel very strongly that if you're going to publically display your workplace you need to be responsible in not making such racist and hateful comments.

I called her out on it and the post has now been deleted.

AIBU to call the HR department and complain, or should I leave it and hope that she thinks carefully before she posts in future?

OP posts:

This alleged "racist" is as entitled to air her views as the OP who assumes the moral high ground by lecturing us all and holding us to a standard of "racism" that did not really enter the public consciousness until about 40 years ago.

So your argument is ‘This wouldn’t have been an issue 40 years ago, so why should it be now’? That’s fucking moronic.

GreytExpectations · 04/07/2020 12:58

So, because racism was accepted 40 years ago, it still should be accepted now? Riiiight

thetaleunfolds · 04/07/2020 12:58

I would report her without a second thought. If one of my employees posted something like that while publicly representing my company I'd want to know about it and they'd be gone.

JingsMahBucket · 04/07/2020 13:01

@CluelessBaker love your posts. You keep bringing the facts and stats. Thank you!

WendyHoused · 04/07/2020 13:01

It’s already been dealt with, why put her job at risk.

She posted something horrible. OP raised it with her, explained why it was offensive. She responded by retracting it. Good. Job done.

Had she defended it, doubled down, then ok, the matter could be taken further by reporting it to her employer (although I dislike the Cancel Culture of purity).

But she didn’t. She responded appropriately to having her racism pointed out to her.

What else did you want her to do? Take an ad in the paper? Walk through the streets with a sandwich board listing her failings?

Too right! I really don't understand why so many people think racism should be accepted

So you really think that because she deleted her own racist post after being called out that she no longer is a racist? Pretty naive to think that...

JingsMahBucket · 04/07/2020 13:05

Also, a lot of the posts on this thread are PEAK white feminism. I’m sure all the racism apologists bleat on about how we must protect all women and girls from XYZ (including that peculiar side of MN TERF-ing) but they really only mean White women and girls. They’re willing to throw the health and rights of non-white women under the bus because racism is “just an opinion” to them and not actually the life threatening bias that is. No wonder people laugh at MN.

GreytExpectations · 04/07/2020 13:08

Indeed, MN has become a joke on a lot of other Internet forums and this thread really shows why.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 04/07/2020 13:09

Yes. Tell her employers. If she is willing to post her views on a public forum on which she is identifiable as their employee, she should be willing to justify herself to them. She can own her words and the consequences of them.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 04/07/2020 13:11

It’s already been dealt with, why put her job at risk.

She put her job at risk. Her choice to make the statement. Not her choice how others respond to it. There would be no risk to her job had she not chosen to post what she did.

Duvetdoggy · 04/07/2020 13:17

I'm beginning to think some posters dont actually know what racism is? Its not an opinion or free speech. Have you no sense of responsibility towards society or humanity? Do you not want to live in a world free of this. What exactly is it you're holding on to? Do you not believe the untold damage it does? Do you think because it doesnt happen to you personally its not real? Have you ever seriously thought about it? I'm dumbfounded.

VivienScott · 04/07/2020 13:19

I don’t like what she’s saying but people need to be able to have opinions that aren’t fed back to their employers. Work and private life should be allowed to be separate.
Report comments to Facebook, unfriendly her, leave it there.

JingsMahBucket · 04/07/2020 13:19

@GreytExpectations @ClareBlue et al, you’re also doing an excellent job in posting. Thank you for doing the work and for fighting. :) Flowers

She did that by being a racist while in an NHS uniform.
If she wants to air her opinions she should go onto another platform like Parler where she wouldn't be deleted and be less identifiable so her personal views aren't associated with her employer. They have every right to have a social media policy that doesn't taint their organization's image. Each racist/sexist/homophobe/disabilist who brazenly posts this sort of nasty material is contributing to the structural racism of public services. These services are for everyone and the users shouldn't be put off indirectly by reading stuff like "go home"- they could be British born in the first place.

Duvetdoggy · 04/07/2020 13:21

Its not an opinion. Its racism. She is in a public role where BAME people suffer due to racism. It is against NHS policies.

JingsMahBucket · 04/07/2020 13:22

@Duvetdoggy
Do you not want to live in a world free of this. What exactly is it you're holding on to?

They’re holding onto the racism because it benefits them. They get better healthcare outcomes, better pay, better home loan terms, preferential treatment, get told they’re the supposed standard of beauty, get a few crumbs from the white patriarchy, etc.

Duvetdoggy · 04/07/2020 13:23

I think you're right.

Agree with the sentiment but please don't use the word ’moronic’ www.merriam-webster.com/words-at-play/moron-idiot-imbecile-offensive-history
User8008135 · 04/07/2020 13:31

Good that you called her out. It's telling she deleted it.

I'm erring on reporting it as she needs to know racism won't be tolerated. If she was a fb friend, i would wait first and see if she posted a retraction apology post, something to show she'd taken on board, realised she was racist and was mortified.

GreytExpectations · 04/07/2020 13:32

Thanks! As a BAME woman it's really important for me to continue to challenge racist views, as it will hopefully make my life easier one day

JingsMahBucket · 04/07/2020 13:34

@GreytExpectations same here. :)

Duvetdoggy · 04/07/2020 13:36

I'd like to think it was of exteme importance to everyone. I'm white and always stand up to racism. It shouldn't be the work of BAME only people to deal with it. Maybe that's what the apologists think.

JingsMahBucket · 04/07/2020 13:39

@Duvetdoggy exactly. For some reason they always think the burden should fall onto the brown person. Like I said previously in the thread, we’ve already done it for about 500 years and we’re not doing that shit anymore.

And thank you for your work and help. Flowers

Oysterbabe · 04/07/2020 13:44

I would. They'd be sacked at my place for that and I doubt they'd throw their abhorrent views around so freely again.
