My neighbour has clients coming in and out all day

I've not said anything at all to her she's been working from the start of lockdown, clients in and out all day. She's a hairdresser yesterday I was popping out to the shops two clients turn up and one has the kid with them. She's putting all her work up on her social media I just think it's shocking.

Aibu to think this is just taking the piss?

People have bills to pay.

I don't blame anyone for doing what they have to do to keep a roof over their head and food on the table.

@TheLightSideOfTheMoon yeah but is it worth it? I know some people have been fined nearly 4k because their still working. Also the risks of having that many people in a small room no one wearing PPE.

She's being rather stupid to put it on social media...

But she is probably just trying to not go bankrupt and be able to feed her family. The self employment scheme from the government is not what it appears to be and lots of people have fallen through the cracks. Both myself and dh are self employed and have received grants but the various conditions means the grants do not amount to 80% of our profits. They have not replaced even half our incomes and we were fortunate to have savings to live off for the 9 weeks DH was out of work.

Your neighbour is possibly doing this out of desperation. And her clients are choosing to use her service.

How do you know there is no PPE?

I wouldn't hold it against anyone doing what they need to do to survive financially at the moment, especially if they have kids to support.

The risk of fines is presumably the cost of doing business for her and its none of your business really.

If you're not in the position of having had to work through lockdown you are lucky. As long as she isn't putting you and your family at risk, just be grateful you're not in the same position and keep your nose out of it.

Does right need to work trump everyone else's if it leads to increased cases and father lockdowns?

I’m more annoyed with people that have visited beaches, family and friends. All absolutely unnecessary journeys that have risked the spread of infection.

She was telling me at the start of lockdown she's claiming benefits as a single parent now so she can't be that desperate her OH has a good job as well.

She's been visiting her friends and family throughout the whole lockdown I have her on Social media. I am minding my own business I just think it's shocking her little boy has asthma aswell so she is putting him at risk.

Personally, I don't blame people who continued to work "under the table" during all this.
Perhaps they were doing what they HAD to do to pay their bills and keep food on the table.
All these clients turning up, do so at their own risk.

Because people need to work to provide for themselves and their families.

People have families to feed and roofs to keep over their heads. What exactly do you expect people to do? It's all well and good going on about "the rules" and the hysterical "But we are in lockdown!" if you are financially secure, however the world doesn't work that way for everyone.

Apart from my son and one other boy, every single one of the other 8 boys in his Y10 class bubble had had a professional haircut from their mum's hairdresser coming to their house on a regular basis throughout lockdown. It was the first thing they talked about apparently and was all over the class whatsapp afterwards. At least two mums texted me and offered the names of their hairdressers. The mobile hairdressing business has carried on throughout and has in fact boomed tbh!

If she is claiming benefits and also having people in an out cash in hand working then you can either

1. Ignore it

1. Report her. (People will defend unless of course she passes the virus around) I do feel for people who aren't working and struggling when this person appears to have both benefits and tax free income.

My neighbour is a hairdresser and has been doing homers throughout lockdown. She's a young, single mum, fairly recently qualified and says if corona doesn't kill her daughter then poverty will. She doesn't qualify for any self- employment grants for reasons that I can't remember, but she needs to work and is putting herself at risk in order to feed and house her young child. She's not taking the piss, she's trying to survive.

On the news I saw the owners of garment sweatshops in Leicester using that excuse for treating their workers as modern slaves, they have to have BAME women working in those conditions for time wages so they can jeep their businesses.
