My neighbour has clients coming in and out all day

I've not said anything at all to her she's been working from the start of lockdown, clients in and out all day. She's a hairdresser yesterday I was popping out to the shops two clients turn up and one has the kid with them. She's putting all her work up on her social media I just think it's shocking.

Aibu to think this is just taking the piss?

I think YABVU not to have reported her when you first noticed. I absolutely would have and would do so every single time it happened.

TARSCOUT · 02/07/2020 17:18

*@TooTrueToBeGood

You also said
Her actions are not affecting you directly so for the sake of your own sanity I would keep your nose out and stop obsessing about her.
Make your mind up, can't have it all ways.

TheQueef · 02/07/2020 17:25

Nosey ole sausage aren't you?
Got any jigsaws you can do?

vodkaredbullgirl · 02/07/2020 17:59

OP thought you were asking to take this thread down.

englishrosie · 02/07/2020 21:59

What a sad little life Jane.

amijustparanoidorjuststoned · 02/07/2020 22:13

She is probably desperate to feed her kids or worried about losing her home.

I run a beauty business and we have not been told when out industry can reopen - all you need to do is Google how the House of Commons view the beauty industry to realise we probably won't be going back to work any time soon.

I'm considering reopening my salon regardless. I have bills to pay and mouths to feed. But the government would rather we all starved to death on the streets, apparently.

Don't you DARE judge a woman in this situation from your ivory towers.

amijustparanoidorjuststoned · 02/07/2020 22:16

So she’s flouting all the rules, including not paying taxes (which is why she doesn’t qualify for furlough) but everyone seems to think that’s ok and of course she gets free use of the NHS if she gets COVID. This is why 45,000 people are dead and Britain is doing SO badly. Health and safety would close her down. She can’t be insured, taxed, anything.

You horrible woman. I started my business last year and haven't yet submitted a tax return - therefore I am not entitled to any government help. I hope you don't lose your job during the recession and need help. Christ.

Iamthewombat · 02/07/2020 22:19

Is this what you are talking about, from this week’s PMQs? In response to an MP asking when a beauty salon in his constituency can open:

“Mr Johnson replied: "I am sure that one day I will be going with him to Lush Beauty (laughter is heard from the benches) but it is a sad reality for many of these excellent businesses that they cannot reopen and I certainly share his sense of urgency and I know that people feel it across the country."

How is this insulting to the beauty industry?

Can you link to the government’s suggestion that you should ‘starve on the streets’?

Why aren’t you getting support from the self-employed scheme or UC?

Ireolu · 02/07/2020 22:21

Stop snooping on the blinking neighbour and enjoy your life!

Buttybach · 02/07/2020 22:32

Jesus! My daughter looks like Boris Johnsons electrocuted spawn!
I attempted to cut it in week 3 and its still awful
No hairdressers round here operating!

famousforwrongreason · 02/07/2020 22:37

Tbf, hairdresser restrictions are lifted next week anyway so it's a bit of a moot point anyway op.
I've had no choice but to work throughout lockdown.
At times I've felt jealous of those who are furloughed but I couldn't imagine the fear for those people who don't qualify for furlough and don't qualify for the 10k business support and are not allowed to work.
I'm sure she thought long and hard about it and I sure her customers were in control of their actions when they chose to visit her.
Haurdressers have had distancing guidelines for months in order to plan for reopening. She will know how to handle it.
She's not hurting you.

Emeraldshamrock · 02/07/2020 22:39

It should have been reported at the beginning of lockdown though considering the government left the self employed on the end of a rope in the UK I'm not surprised people had to earn.
Hairdressers are opening soon I think in the UK they're already open in Ireland so a little to late to complain.

Iamthewombat · 02/07/2020 22:47

considering the government left the self employed on the end of a rope in the UK I'm not surprised people had to earn.

What, ALL of the self-employed?

The self-employed people who didn’t get support were those who hadn’t yet submitted a tax return or those who were not declaring their earnings.

The latter group can’t expect support from the taxpayer if they themselves aren’t willing to pay tax. What’s your suggestion for the former group? Do you think that we should have said, “tell us how much money you’d like from the public purse, no need to prove anything”?

ginghamstarfish · 02/07/2020 22:52

She's putting others at risk and no doubt claiming benefit while paying no tax. I'd report it. You can't make up your own rules.

namechangetheworld · 02/07/2020 22:58

I agree with you OP, although I sympathise a bit more with a person trying to pay her bills and put food on the table for her child than the dickheads visiting a hairdresser during lockdown. Absolute fucking bellends.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 02/07/2020 23:01

So the tread started off as just having clients in her house, then it was since the start of lock down and within 3 posts she has been illegally claiming benefits, seeing her whole family throughout lockdown, and she's a terrible mother because her child has athsma 🙄.

DestinationFkd · 02/07/2020 23:11

Can I have her number OP. I need my barnet sorting.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 03/07/2020 00:22

When you're fishing on the river bank, of one bait doesn't work, switch it up and try others. If they don't work maybe add a little of something else. Eventually something will bite.
MadameMeursault · 03/07/2020 00:24

Why are people defending her? Why didn’t you report her? She’s been blatantly breaking the law and risking people’s lives. She’s a selfish cunt.

TooGood2BeTrue · 03/07/2020 00:51

@TARSCOUT You are confusing me with another poster and you also got my user name wrong.

CuppaZa · 03/07/2020 01:05

Until Covid is more under control, people flouting the rules are just making the situation worse and businesses shut for longer

ChangeOfNameNeeded07 · 03/07/2020 01:41

My hairdresser lost her job at the salon in mid March. The owner just closed up, paid extra £200 and left the country. My hairdresser is a single mother and rents privately in London. She has no other choice, but to work at home. I didn't go see her, but others are- and who can blame her for trying to put food on a table and roof over children heads?
It is foolish, it is risky- but what other choice does she have besides Universal Credit, which doesn't cover her rent?
I say, live and let others live.

PhilCornwall1 · 03/07/2020 02:26

Best get the "they are taking the piss", "selfish", "murderers", "breaking lockdown rules" in before Saturday.

What are the curtain twitchers going to do for sport then.

Tink2007 · 03/07/2020 03:51

I don’t understand how people know so much about the comings and goings of their neighbours. I’m friendly with my neighbour but god I couldn’t tell you what she does day in day out. Nor do I sit curtain twitching and I’ve been shielding since March.
