My neighbour has clients coming in and out all day

I've not said anything at all to her she's been working from the start of lockdown, clients in and out all day. She's a hairdresser yesterday I was popping out to the shops two clients turn up and one has the kid with them. She's putting all her work up on her social media I just think it's shocking.

Aibu to think this is just taking the piss?

@mygenericusername

I’m more annoyed with people that have visited beaches, family and friends. All absolutely unnecessary journeys that have risked the spread of infection.

More annoyed with someone visiting a beach - socially distanced, outside and safe than with someone who has had a string of people through her home throughout the lock down.... odd that! Glad we all didn't do what this woman did. Naughty me I went to my local beach for a walk with my dog completely minding my own business. Now if I had lots of clients visit my home you would support that. Very odd.

climbingcorfecastle · 02/07/2020 09:52

OP if anything you should be annoyed at those requesting her service, a haircut is hardly a necessity, but plenty of people seem to think so.

HereForYou2020 · 02/07/2020 09:53

@PleasantVille

Indeed sweatshops in Leicester - but they were only trying to earn a living.

Meanwhile - screaming murderers at anyone who visits a beach for a socially distance meet up or walk....!

notahinchersorry · 02/07/2020 09:53

We're both self employed she was telling me what I could claim she said she just signed up for universal credit as a single parent because she wasn't entitled to anything otherwise because her OH earns to much.

I'm not going to report her as it isn't none of my business I was just shocked how she's advertising everywhere. Baring in mind a lot of people in our area have been fined and her poor son had not long had a operation before lockdown and he's at home while she's working.

@HereForYou2020

How the Hell do you know she is also on benefits ?
Some of you are so quick to assume and very quick to grass .

Newkitchen123 · 02/07/2020 09:53

@rosesinmygarden

She's being rather stupid to put it on social media...

But she is probably just trying to not go bankrupt and be able to feed her family. The self employment scheme from the government is not what it appears to be and lots of people have fallen through the cracks. Both myself and dh are self employed and have received grants but the various conditions means the grants do not amount to 80% of our profits. They have not replaced even half our incomes and we were fortunate to have savings to live off for the 9 weeks DH was out of work.

Your neighbour is possibly doing this out of desperation. And her clients are choosing to use her service.

If you've not been granted 80% of your profits then you need to question it. I'm self employed. I've claimed it and the figure was spot on.
CuriousaboutSamphire · 02/07/2020 09:54

Only on Mumsnet would trying to earn a living be considered taking the piss I'll take that! As I sit here looking at my work diary, seeing nothing but empty weeks behind me and less than 10% of my usual work ahead of me! Pshaw!

Worriedmum4 · 02/07/2020 09:54

I agree with you, and I would report her too. Yes she may be struggling but so are alot of other people. Why is it OK for her to run her business whilst other hairdressers are staying closed?
The people going to her are even worse!

DullDullWeather · 02/07/2020 09:54

Oh . Cross posted with the OP

I still think some of you are quick to grass people Would you do the same with company owning tax evaders , hmmm?!

HereForYou2020 · 02/07/2020 09:57

@Davincitoad

Crazy isn't it defending this - imagine if all small businesses opened during lockdown as this lady - lock down would go on forever/be pointless and more people would die.....

Why are people defending this? This is why we are in the mess we are in

Didyousaynutella · 02/07/2020 09:57

What’s asthma got to do with anything? It isn’t on the list of shielding conditions unless steroid tablets. I don’t think one child has dies due to their asthma.
My son has asthma and has been going to school since the start of lockdown because I am a key worker. Is his life less important than that of another child with asthma. Please educate yourself OP before commenting. I am sick of asthma being used as an excuse to not go to work.

SockYarn · 02/07/2020 09:58

I am minding my own business

Course you are. You're just watching her comings and goings, monitoring her social media and posting about her on Mumsnet. Hmm

CuriousaboutSamphire · 02/07/2020 09:58

he wasn't entitled to anything otherwise because her OH earns to much. Is that code for "doesn't declare her income"? In which case her social media posts will probably come back and bite!

I too have claimed my 80%, am wondering what the next claim will actually be.

HereForYou2020 · 02/07/2020 09:58

@Newkitchen123

If people don't declare all their previous profits then they cannot get 80%.... some people always under declare and take cash in hand... then they don't get the grant so have a problem now

Dillydallyingthrough · 02/07/2020 10:00

I agree with you OP, lots of people have lost huge amounts of income. Shes irresponsible so if she has it and passes to all her clients (enclosed space) how many are they passing it on to? I would have reported her a long time ago, and if you posted on MN at the beginning everyone would have been screaming at you that you were a murderer for me keeping quiet (I also think this is ridiculous) but the tables have turned on here now and everyone is able to do whatever they want. But then her clients know the risk they are taking too which makes them just as irresponsible.

notahinchersorry · 02/07/2020 10:01

@SockYarn I'm sat in the living room I can see people pulling up.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 02/07/2020 10:01

I still think some of you are quick to grass people Would you do the same with company owning tax evaders , hmmm?! Currently I am laughing at a few of them.. as they are now complaining that they didn't get their 80% Grin

Others have not evaded but structured their businesses in order to reduce the tax burden.. lots of small businesses lie across the tax / VAT thresholds and are advised (by HMRC, I've taken some of the online sessions) to structure their business that way.. and now have missed out on the CV19 packages. They have my sympathy.

TooGood2BeTrue · 02/07/2020 10:01

Not sure what the big deal is? Hairdressers can officially reopen in 2 days anyway.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 02/07/2020 10:02

And the last 9 weeks?

Keep up!

QuizzlyBear · 02/07/2020 10:02

@Newkitchen123 I'm also self employed and since I set my business up at the end of last year, I'm eligible for £0.

My DH is self employed and earned just over £50k last year, so he's eligible for £0.

We put aside money for outstanding taxes so have 'savings'. This means we're also not eligible for UC.

Trust me, it's easy to fall through the cracks of the government's 'assistance'. We're living off tax money 'savings' which means that unless things turn around bloody quick, our home will be repossessed by October and we'll be in trouble with HMRC when we can't pay our taxes. It's not straightforward.

GingerFluffycat · 02/07/2020 10:02

My neighbour works a couple of nights in a care home and is also a mobile hairdresser.
She hasn't stopped during lockdown and is out more than she's in! She snaffles PPE from her CH job to use for her hairdressing! Shock
She's also got her youngest going to school as she's a "keyworker" even though her DH is WFH.
I've told DH she is NOT cutting his hair again! and I don't give a fuck how "controlling" that is

YetAnotherSpartacus · 02/07/2020 10:02

Shop her. I would - and I'd use social media as evidence. She sounds like she's taking the piss.

MummytoCSJH · 02/07/2020 10:05

Of course you come back to drip feed that she's committing benefit fraud...

Is it worth it? People are literally losing everything they have. She might end up with no business left, lose her home even. Yes it's worth it. Some people have no choice. She's obviously in a desperate enough position financially that she needs to do this.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 02/07/2020 10:05

Oooh! @QuizzlyBear You have my sympathies. HMRC have some info on that tax payent. Eventually, not now, you should be able to contact them and schedule repayments spread out over an as yet unspecified time.

Though that may change any moment, I suppose. Many SE friends are having to do the same as you and have had little by way of reassurance. So there will need to be an adjustment, if the SE sector is not to be destroyed completely!

TooTrueToBeGood · 02/07/2020 10:09

100s of 1000s of people are disregarding social distancing. As many are also abusing the benefits and tax system. You reporting one person will not make a gnat's fart of a difference but it might create an intolerable atmosphere between you and your neighbours if they find out. The problems are for the state to fix by closing loopholes in their systems and improving their detection and enforcement processes. Her actions are not affecting you directly so for the sake of your own sanity I would keep your nose out and stop obsessing about her.
