Please read and keep this thread active if possible.

www.nuh.nhs.uk/latest-news/for-many-people-with-a-blood-cancer-a-stem-cell-donor-is-their-best-chance-of-survival-however-finding-a-matching-blood-stem-cell-donor-is-not-easy-4704

Amy desperately needs a donor within the next week or so. Are you eligible?

There are four main donor registries. You only need to register to oneas the information from all registers is collated when looking for a match.

  1. The DKMS Registry (age restriction is 18 to 55 years):www.dkms.org.uk/en/register-now
  1. The Anthony Nolan Registry (age restriction is 16 to 30 years):www.anthonynolan.org/8-ways-you-could-save-life/donate-your-stem-cells
  1. The Welsh Bone Marrow Registry (age restriction is 17 to 31 years):www.welsh-blood.org.uk/giving-blood/bone-marrow-donor-registry/
  1. The NHS British Bone Marrow Registry (eligibility determined when you attend to give a blood donation):www.bbmr.co.uk/joining-the-register/

Thank you ❤

I’m a life-long anaemic

Maybe you can - it depends on your blood counts

The link below has lots of info on what is OK and what isn’t. Depression (mentioned earlier in the thread) May well be OK. It depends on severity (mild and moderate may well be OK) and type of medication

I'm already registered with Anthony Nolan, but bumping the thread for you.

IpanemaSunshine · 02/07/2020 18:14

A little bump for you.

JessicaPeach · 02/07/2020 18:35

I'm on the dkms register already so have this bump. Every time I see an appeal like this I'm so disappointed not to be a match. I would donate in a heartbeat.

Jux · 02/07/2020 18:35

bumping for you (not allowed on the register Sad though heaven knows I've tried to persuade them that they want my superpowers!).

CastleCrasher · 02/07/2020 18:43

Already on dkms so bumping

MagnoliaJustice · 02/07/2020 18:46

My son did an allogeneic transplant when my brother had stage 4 aggressive NHL - he's now in remission, 6 years since the onset. I am too old to be a donor, but all of my children are on the register. I can't emphasise enough how important it is - my brother would have died without his transplant, leaving his wife and daughter. Now he's just an irritating little brother and an interfering dad but we love him to bits and we still have him here.

PointeShoesandTutus · 02/07/2020 18:48

On the register already, but bumping for a great cause.

Disfordarkchocolate · 02/07/2020 19:18

I'm on the Antony Nolan was and have been for years. I'm 50 now and they haven't taken me off the register.

Dreamersandwishers · 02/07/2020 19:22

As a blood cancer survivor, just want to say , thanks all, for being so kind and thoughtful,
Hopefully Amy, and many others will be helped by this thread. X

minipie · 02/07/2020 19:27

I’ve just registered with DKMS. I had looked at Anthony Nolan previously but was too old (I’m 40), I assumed it was the same for all.

louloubelx · 02/07/2020 19:28

I’ve just registered

Saxifraga · 02/07/2020 19:37

I'm registered with Anthony Nolan already too

SunshinePeekingThrough · 02/07/2020 20:12

I am on DKMS bumping for you

NiceViper · 02/07/2020 20:23

bump

eggofmantumbi · 02/07/2020 20:30

Can't register as a T1 diabetic. I hope they find a match

HalfBloodPrincess · 02/07/2020 20:39

I've registered recently with DKMS, last I heard they were sending my swabs to Germany to be analysed.
Helpful bump for the thread.

Branches1 · 02/07/2020 20:41

I’m on the DKMS register, so is my husband. I hope they find someone

polkadotpixie · 02/07/2020 20:55

I'm not sure if I'm allowed. I don't technically have Pernicious Anaemia (according to my intrinsic factor test) but my body doesn't absorb B12 regardless and I have to have life long B12 injections

I'm not allowed to give blood so I guess I'm not eligible?

strandedatthedrivein · 02/07/2020 20:55

I've registered, I can't give blood as I had a transfusion after giving birth so I was pleased and surprised that I could go on the register.

SwelteringInTheHeat · 02/07/2020 20:57

I just looked at the first one, and I'm probably going to sign up tomorrow after checking if I am eligible. (I have some health conditions)

oldbagface · 02/07/2020 21:01

Who can not donate. For example I am asthmatic so I'm not allowed to donate blood.

SwelteringInTheHeat · 02/07/2020 21:06

There is a list of the website oldbagface. It says mild, controlled asthma is fine.
The only thing worrying me is if I would have to go under general to harvest the cells. I have a real fear of being put under. I'm going to have to think is it worth the small risk of having to do it (because, if you match, how could you say no?!)

alwayslosing · 02/07/2020 21:08

I registered and I hope a match will be found soon! Hugs x

Nackajory · 02/07/2020 21:09

Just registered then read the comment about females who have given birth not being able to donate. Really?
