Please read and keep this thread active if possible.

www.nuh.nhs.uk/latest-news/for-many-people-with-a-blood-cancer-a-stem-cell-donor-is-their-best-chance-of-survival-however-finding-a-matching-blood-stem-cell-donor-is-not-easy-4704

Amy desperately needs a donor within the next week or so. Are you eligible?

There are four main donor registries. You only need to register to oneas the information from all registers is collated when looking for a match.

  1. The DKMS Registry (age restriction is 18 to 55 years):www.dkms.org.uk/en/register-now
  1. The Anthony Nolan Registry (age restriction is 16 to 30 years):www.anthonynolan.org/8-ways-you-could-save-life/donate-your-stem-cells
  1. The Welsh Bone Marrow Registry (age restriction is 17 to 31 years):www.welsh-blood.org.uk/giving-blood/bone-marrow-donor-registry/
  1. The NHS British Bone Marrow Registry (eligibility determined when you attend to give a blood donation):www.bbmr.co.uk/joining-the-register/

Thank you ❤

I'm about to have a stem cell transplant (mantle cell lymphoma) - thankfully my own have been harvested but please do sign up if you

Last week I had 11 blood transfusions so could I also encourage you to give blood if you can. I used to do it regularly and I'm finding hard to come to terms that I'm more likely to be a recipient from now on

Lavendersquare · 02/07/2020 12:25

I'm already registered.

TheGroak · 02/07/2020 12:31

I’m already registered but bumping because it’s so important!

Bluetrews25 · 02/07/2020 12:34

I'm very nearly too old to register.
Wanted to thank all the donors out there.
A very great friend of ours received a donation and lived for a further 6 years. Tears in my eyes thinking about him, and once again silently thanking his donor.

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 02/07/2020 12:41

I wish I could register but I'm ineligible on all counts.

MyNameIsArthur · 02/07/2020 12:47

Months of Platelet and blood transfusions and then a stem cell transplant saved my life when I had blood cancer so am very happy to bump this.

Please donate blood and platelets and register to become stem cell donors as it does make a difference. You can save many lives.

MrsTJOsbornee · 02/07/2020 12:49

Was on the list but I am now.

Iamclearlyamug · 02/07/2020 12:50

Just registered now, I hope Amy finds a match

4sandie · 02/07/2020 12:51

Hi all, I've just registered for the first link and just completing the application for the Anthony Nolan one (I thought I could register for allGrin). Should I continue with this registration when I've already registered for the first one or should I leave it? (I'm sorry if it sounds stupid - I've never done this before other than blood and organ donor registrations so I'm not sure how it works but would love to help if I can)

Doggodogington · 02/07/2020 12:52

I’m on dkms already but I’ll add a bump to your thread. It’s so easy to do.

Deeleycat01 · 02/07/2020 12:54

Just wanted to clarify a few things.
You only need to be signed up with one of the organisations mentioned in the original post as they all work together to find a match. So there is no need to join another if you are already on.

The age ranges that are mentioned are just for signing up and you will stay on that register until you are 60. So please do not worry of you are over 30 you are still on the register. You haven't been taken off just because you are over 30.

The joining age range is to due to the fact that younger donors do provide much better transplant outcomes for patients

CaptainCarp · 02/07/2020 12:55

@frumpety

I don't think I am able to as had a blood transfusion 10 years ago ? Will ask my eligble children to look at it though and my Brother Smile
Doesn't matter if you've had a bloody transfusion apparently they dont mind the risk of vCJD unlike blood donation Smile

Im another one that needs to look into whether I have to re-register after ageing off the Anthony Nolan one recently!

Idontbelieveit12 · 02/07/2020 12:59

I’m on the Anthony Nolan register, can’t see why anyone wouldn’t want to do it x

Rafflesway · 02/07/2020 13:07

I desperately wanted to register but too old. 😢

Great reminder though. Definitely needs more publicity!

Myamoth · 02/07/2020 13:13

Thank you for this, my DD and I have just registered.

CaptainCarp · 02/07/2020 13:23

If I'd rtft I wouldn't have needed to search as to whether I needed to re-register!
Glad this is getting extra people on the register Grin

GoldenPlatitudes · 02/07/2020 13:28

I signed up years ago. I was told I was a possible match a couple of years ago and had to go and get extra blood tests taken, but there was someone else who was a closer match in the end.

For what it's worth I had a blood transfusion years ago and was still accepted, it is different from blood donors

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 02/07/2020 13:34

I tried. Because I've suffered depression in the past, they didn't want my stem cells. Sorry, OP. I told them I thought that was silly - I had apparently potentially useful markers, too.

Hope Amy finds a match.

AcornsTrustee · 02/07/2020 13:38

Also already registered. Have had a couple of near matches requiring further blood tests but, like GoldenPlatitudes someone else was a better match than me.

Don’t know who was more excited at the time, my GP or me! Perhaps it’ll be third time lucky to be able to help.

Frozenfrogs86 · 02/07/2020 13:39

I've had a baby (although had anti D so does that mean I won't have antibodies?) and had depression in the past (not recently). Is it worth me registering or not?

AutumnLeavesSeptember · 02/07/2020 13:51

Just requested a swab with DKMS :)

gamerchick · 02/07/2020 13:53

I'm on the DKMS Registry already, bumping for you.

SunshineCake · 02/07/2020 13:53

I wasn't allowed to give blood a few years ago due to meds I was on but I don't take them now so could I offer?

tillytubby · 02/07/2020 13:53

I've just registered. Good luck op

Ripasso · 02/07/2020 13:56

I am on dkms register, is so easy and so important. Hope this prompts others to do the same. Hope a match is found soon.
