Amy desperately needs a donor within the next week or so. Are you eligible?

There are four main donor registries. You only need to register to oneas the information from all registers is collated when looking for a match.

  1. The DKMS Registry (age restriction is 18 to 55 years):www.dkms.org.uk/en/register-now
  1. The Anthony Nolan Registry (age restriction is 16 to 30 years):www.anthonynolan.org/8-ways-you-could-save-life/donate-your-stem-cells
  1. The Welsh Bone Marrow Registry (age restriction is 17 to 31 years):www.welsh-blood.org.uk/giving-blood/bone-marrow-donor-registry/
  1. The NHS British Bone Marrow Registry (eligibility determined when you attend to give a blood donation):www.bbmr.co.uk/joining-the-register/

Thank you ❤

On the dkms - hope Amy gets her donor. Bumping.

endofthelinefinally · 02/07/2020 09:44

DH and I can't donate but my DC all registered years ago.
Such a simple thing to do and saves lives.

ittakes2 · 02/07/2020 09:45

Unfort I don’t meet the medical criteria but thank you for sharing - she seems so sweet I hope someone can save her.

FlowerTink · 02/07/2020 09:45

I'm unable to donate due to the criteria but bumping for you!

Wouldyoudoit2 · 02/07/2020 09:48

If you are female and had a baby you are unlikely to be a match for anybody as your body would have created antibodies.

(I speak from experience)
Did you know your baby’s umbilical cord (that is usually binned) could save lives?

Just registered and got DH to. Been meaning to for years as I am / was a blood donor. Yay!

NewtonWasRight · 02/07/2020 09:49

i'm on the registry already apparently - i was on the AN one before the age cut off, and i've just checked using the DKMS eligibility tool, it says that since i was already on the AN register... they share data.

so i can't help further but thought i'd mention it for other people to be aware of. the fact that they share data across the registrations is excellent.

iVampire · 02/07/2020 09:50

I had to de-register when my leukaemia was diagnosed

I am stable on treatment, and very much hope to stay that way. But if that falters, then it could be me needing a donation

Do this is an entirely selfish bump

With my eternal gratitude to those who have joined or are considering it

chubley · 02/07/2020 09:55

I signed up with DKMS a year or two ago at work when they were promoting this for a baby that needed a donation - just had to do a cheek swab and post it back.

I wonder why DKMS stops at 55?

minesanespresso · 02/07/2020 10:00

@frumpety you can absolutely register if you’ve had a blood transfusion. It has different criteria than blood donation Smile

LuckyBitches · 02/07/2020 10:00

Bumping - I am signed up to DKMS. My brother died waiting for a Stem Cell Transplant. Please sign up everyone, fingers crossed for Amy.

Burnshersmurfs · 02/07/2020 10:01

Thanks- I'm signed up, and will see if DD is up for it if she plans on waking up at some point today

overandunder9 · 02/07/2020 10:04

DF had a stem cell transplant so I know first hand how vital this is. Giving an enormous bump.

TantieTowie · 02/07/2020 10:05

Have registered with DKMS - thanks for flagging that up. I had looked into it earlier (I know how important it is from family experience) but thought I was too old.

AlfieGeorge40 · 02/07/2020 10:08

Signed up and shared in all my networks. Heartbreaking :-(

garbagegirl · 02/07/2020 10:09

I am unable to donate because my BMI is too high. I am so sorry. Bumping for you x

QueenArseClangers · 02/07/2020 10:09

I’ve registered. Thanks OP.

yelyah22 · 02/07/2020 10:09

I'm on the Anthony Nolan register, I will go and check my details are updated :)

LEELULUMPKIN · 02/07/2020 10:10

I never signed up to this because I obviously mistakenly thought as I couldn't give blood (blood transfusion) I couldn't do this either.

Just registered with DKMS so eagerly await my swab kit in the hope of helping someone.

cornflakecritter · 02/07/2020 10:20

I am on the register already too, but bumping for you.

Straycatstrut · 02/07/2020 10:21

It says I don't weigh enough to do it! How ridiculous! I am 7st8 and 5ft3 believe me I am not even skinny, I have chubby legs I'm just petite! NHS website says I'm a "Healthy weight" and in my ideal weight range. I'm really, really annoyed about this.

MrsRandallFraser · 02/07/2020 10:21

Thank you for sharing OP, I've just registered with DKMS.

Mummacake · 02/07/2020 10:23

I'm also registered.

ceecee32 · 02/07/2020 10:23

I was lucky enough to be matched with a donor from Germany. That young lady saved my life.

I hope and pray that a match is found x

JammyHands · 02/07/2020 10:27

I’ve been on the Anthony Nolan one for about 30 years. It sounds as though the procedure is simpler these days. I remember having an actual blood test to join.
