Please read and keep this thread active if possible.

www.nuh.nhs.uk/latest-news/for-many-people-with-a-blood-cancer-a-stem-cell-donor-is-their-best-chance-of-survival-however-finding-a-matching-blood-stem-cell-donor-is-not-easy-4704

Amy desperately needs a donor within the next week or so. Are you eligible?

There are four main donor registries. You only need to register to oneas the information from all registers is collated when looking for a match.

  1. The DKMS Registry (age restriction is 18 to 55 years):www.dkms.org.uk/en/register-now
  1. The Anthony Nolan Registry (age restriction is 16 to 30 years):www.anthonynolan.org/8-ways-you-could-save-life/donate-your-stem-cells
  1. The Welsh Bone Marrow Registry (age restriction is 17 to 31 years):www.welsh-blood.org.uk/giving-blood/bone-marrow-donor-registry/
  1. The NHS British Bone Marrow Registry (eligibility determined when you attend to give a blood donation):www.bbmr.co.uk/joining-the-register/

Thank you ❤

Am on DKMS one. Hope Amy gets a match ❤

incognitomum · 02/07/2020 11:10

I've just asked my sons to register they're 19 and 23.

Scarednow12345678 · 02/07/2020 11:11

Done, and a swab kit is on its way.

Sparticle · 02/07/2020 11:12

[quote Wouldyoudoit2]If you are female and had a baby you are unlikely to be a match for anybody as your body would have created antibodies.

(I speak from experience)
Did you know your baby’s umbilical cord (that is usually binned) could save lives?

Do you mean @Wouldyoudoit2 that a lot of mums won't be able to help?

I have just registered on the DKMS site. :/

coronafiona · 02/07/2020 11:12

Also on the register. And bumping Daffodil

Hollyhobbi · 02/07/2020 11:14

Have shared. Was on the register myself until 2016 when I had to deregister due to ill health. Would also like to remind people to give blood if they can. It's needed now more than ever. 3 units of it helped save my life in 2016.

stophuggingme · 02/07/2020 11:15

Sadly I can’t donate but wish I could.

I have shared though

Hope there is a match for Amy out there and they can help her ♥️

Constella · 02/07/2020 11:15

Registered and so will DP.

HoneyBee03 · 02/07/2020 11:18

I had no idea about this. Thanks so much for sharing, I'm going to register now.

dontblameme · 02/07/2020 11:25

I'm on DKMS already but let's keep this thread at the top :-)

SorrelBlackbeak · 02/07/2020 11:28

I'm not eligible I'm afraid but bumping for you.

scaevola · 02/07/2020 11:28

Here are the Anthony Nolan FAQs, which might be helpful.

www.anthonynolan.org/sites/default/files/FAQ%20stem%20cell%20donation%2017-18_0.pdf

Antibodies from pregnancy rule you out for donation for one year after childbirth, but will have dropped to safe levels after that.

Also, I realise this is stating the bloody obvious, but donor stem cells are taken from living people, and changes to 'opt out' for organ transplants are not relevant. They are wholly unconnected schemes.

SlightyJaded · 02/07/2020 11:34

I'm on the Anthony Nolan register following the Team Margot campaign.

It's so so easy to register. A quick swap and a signature.

Please do it.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 02/07/2020 11:50

I was on the register for this but may have been taken off as I have MS now. I can't give blood anymore so I suspect I've been removed.

Bumping for you anyway, OP, it's a very good thing to be able to do if you can.

mintich · 02/07/2020 11:51

Registered already but my husband has sent off for a swab kit

Cadent · 02/07/2020 11:54

I'm registered with DKMS, they came to our workplace.

I don't think Anthony Nolan accepts over 30s.
