Amy desperately needs a donor within the next week or so. Are you eligible?

There are four main donor registries. You only need to register to oneas the information from all registers is collated when looking for a match.

  1. The DKMS Registry (age restriction is 18 to 55 years):www.dkms.org.uk/en/register-now
  1. The Anthony Nolan Registry (age restriction is 16 to 30 years):www.anthonynolan.org/8-ways-you-could-save-life/donate-your-stem-cells
  1. The Welsh Bone Marrow Registry (age restriction is 17 to 31 years):www.welsh-blood.org.uk/giving-blood/bone-marrow-donor-registry/
  1. The NHS British Bone Marrow Registry (eligibility determined when you attend to give a blood donation):www.bbmr.co.uk/joining-the-register/

Thank you ❤

I tried to register but being over 50 was unable to take part.
I pray Amy finds a match.
Thank you for sharing and thank you to those who’ve registered ❤️

Not selfish at all, @iVampire. All the best to you Flowers

I could, in just a few years, be over 55, but removed from the DKMS register as too old, but if still healthy I'd like to feel I'd still be able to donate. I don't quite get that...

chubley · 02/07/2020 10:29

@Tomorrowsanewday have you tried DKMS? I was over 50 when I registered with them...

WhatToDo999 · 02/07/2020 10:34

I am on the Register, and booked in to donate Bone Marrow on the 17th July. It really is so so easy to do and very much worth it
x

TARSCOUT · 02/07/2020 10:34

Due to health issues I'm no use but I think everyone who will register when they see this or already are registered are amazing!

Delilah21D00LoT · 02/07/2020 10:36

@DumplingsAndStew
I've just registered for the first one. The second and third I'm too old for. Next time I donate blood, I'll find out if i'm eligible for the fourth one.

Ginnyrellas · 02/07/2020 10:38

In registered yesterday for this very reason! 6 months till I’m 30. Better late than never!

PilatesPeach · 02/07/2020 10:40

I'm already on DKMS fingers crossed xx

IItCantRainAllTheTime · 02/07/2020 10:40

I have just been one but am not medically able to donate.
Bump though.

Ghostlyportrait · 02/07/2020 10:40

Ive just checked eligibility for DKMS and their cut off age is 55.

WhatToDo999 · 02/07/2020 10:42

I should add I am late 40's and on the DKMS register.

if you are found to be a match, you are talked through every single step and your health and wellbeing are always a top priority. I cannot fault the support and help I've been given.

I can't wait to give my donation on the 17th and can only hope and pray it helps the little man who so desperately needs it x

letsdothetimewarpagain · 02/07/2020 10:46

I'm registered with DKMS.
For anyone wondering about the initial sampling process, it's quick and easy to get yourself on their database. You don't even need to give a blood sample - it's a simple mouth swab that you send off in the post.
I really hope you find a match for Amy.

Fuckingfuckssake · 02/07/2020 10:46

I registered when giving blood, bump.

Choice4567 · 02/07/2020 10:47

Hadn’t heard of these registers until now. Went through the sign up page and am now waiting for my swab kit. Hopefully I can help someone

You only need to register with one. They cross check them all. It costs money to register someone, so it's best if you only register once

Missillusioned · 02/07/2020 10:49

What we really need to do is encourage more men to register. For a variety of medical reasons male donors are preferred if possible.

Mammaaof · 02/07/2020 10:50

I'm already on it X

2tired2bewitty · 02/07/2020 10:51

Don’t be offended if you’re coming up as too old, it’s because younger matches tend to be more successful. Regardless of how healthy you feel, on a cellular level you are still aging Sad

If you can’t register perhaps consider a financial donation if you are able - it costs DKMS £40 to process each registration.

FizzyGreenWater · 02/07/2020 10:52

I'm on the Antony Nolan register but I would be much too old to do so now.

Bump

minipie · 02/07/2020 10:54

DH and I are both blood donors, will we have been checked automatically? I don’t remember ticking any box about it when I first donated but may well have forgotten.

styleseeker72 · 02/07/2020 10:55

Every time I see these I really wish I could register, but you have to be a minimum weight and unfortunately I'm very short so don't meet it. Wish it could somehow be available for smaller adults to donate, too.

Missillusioned · 02/07/2020 10:55

They also prefer to register younger donors because each registration costs money. So the younger the person, the more years they are a viable prospect on the register - value for money.
Furrydogmum · 02/07/2020 10:58

I've asked my sons, 18 & 22 to register. I really hope Amy gets her match.

Weaverspin · 02/07/2020 11:02

Thank you for sharing this. I have registered for DKMS. I didn't know I could; I can't give blood because I once received a transfusion during surgery. But DKMS guidelines say that is not a bar to being a donor. Hoping so much that a match is found x

QueenMabby · 02/07/2020 11:03

Done and registered for a swab kit. Am already a blood donor and this looks much easier!
