Not quite the same but was looking at my favourite mug about 2 weeks ago thinking what a shame it would be if it broke. 3 days later...yes...you guessed it....got out the dish washer...handle fallen off.

Brand new mint green dress from Cos. I was very excited (lockdown fever) and put it on straight away.

I forgot I had just done a patch test for some hair dye behind my ear...

The dress looked awful.on me and was too small, but as it was streaked with hair dye I couldnt send it back!

Puffalicious · 03/07/2020 12:56

claphands I've actually never thought of that! I've always presumed that I dropped it when carrying the snacks and drinks. It really does still hurt!

troppibambini · 03/07/2020 12:59

I got a Bella Freud cashmere jumper for my birthday I wore it once and it ended up in the wash basket and went through a 40 was and got tumble dried. It might have fitted a borrower when it came out.

Made a cup of tea to settle down to read this thread. I have to take off my glasses to read up close. Predictably sat on them. Now have one very wonky arm. Wouldn't mind but these are a replacement after sitting on my previous pair just before lockdown and completely snapping the arm off. Specsavers very kindly sent me these out. An employee even dropped them off personally. Confused

Another bleach story - years ago I bought some black trousers and then bought a bottle of bleach in another shop and stupidly put it in the same bag the trousers were in. I must have knocked the bag at some point as the bleach lid came loose, cue ruined trousers.

I also bought a Citizen watch a few years ago, it cost about £150. Not long afterwards, I knocked it against the sink in the toilets in my office when washing my hands and the glass face was scratched. It always annoyed me but I continued wearing it, and a year or two later I spent £50 on a new strap for it. A few weeks later I lost the watch in the changing room when I went swimming - it never turned up. That watch clearly didn't like me.

mcmooberry · 03/07/2020 16:26

Yes, I bought 2 expensive wine glasses nearly £20 each. When they arrived they were packed tightly in cardboard so when I pulled the first one out, it flew out of my hand and smashed. Very upset, I nonetheless took the other one out and the same thing happened. I screamed and my 2 year old got such a fright he ran across the broken glass (luckily somehow not cutting his foot!). I was so upset I couldn't tell my DH until much later but we do laugh about it now.

Gemma2019 · 03/07/2020 16:35

I didn't break the new item but they indirectly caused a huge amount of damage.

I treated myself to a pair of new black Louboutins - they were absolutely beautiful and I had wanted them for ages. Anyway I went out that evening all dressed up and wearing my new shoes. Driving along, I glanced down to admire my new shoes on the pedals and managed to smash into a wheelie bin by the side of the road. Caused untold damage to the car and the bin.

I was thinking "I've never done anything like this" as I was reading the thread but I remembered I have.

Years ago I used to smoke. I was hovering on the clutch on a hill at some traffic lights, thought I'd flicked the ash out of the window but I'd caught it on the window frame and knocked it back in into my lap. I only noticed when I felt it melting my tights. Big hole burned in my favourite denim skirt.
I bought a new skirt the same to replace it.
Sitting outside at a cafe I then flicked burning ash into the carrier bag containing the replacement skirt.
After that I decided both wearing denim skirts and smoking were not for me.

LegitSnack · 03/07/2020 16:52

I have to strip down to my underwear if I'm ever using bleach.

FlyRobinFly · 03/07/2020 16:56

Brought a lovely artisan reusable coffee flask for a coffee shop near me. All hand painted etc. Costed me £14. Ordered a drink at the same coffee shop and had them fill the flask for me. I go outside, finish the drink, and then proceed to bin the flask as if it was a cardboard one. Was horrified with myself but couldn’t face looking like a weirdo digging through a bin in public.

whatboutyas · 03/07/2020 17:07

Bought a family member a new mobile phone (galaxy s7 when it was not long out) for their birthday from carphone warehouse, Got outside and took it out the box to show my partner at the time (no clue why to this day) and it flipped out of the box and smashed on the ground outside the shop.

Decided to give up smoking and spent £70 on an ecig, dropped it as I was getting into my car and it smashed to bits. Replaced it with another one and got it home and dropped it onto the tiles in the kitchen and that one smashed as well. I gave up using patches in the end.

listsandbudgets · 03/07/2020 17:20

I once bought a beautiful vase - £40 .

Walked out of the shop and less than a minute later the bag the shop packed it in split and even though it was wrapped well in bubble wrap is cracked right through. Shop told me I should have taken more care.

Never shopped there since

Zerowillpower · 03/07/2020 17:42

New kitchen just fitted by my husband, it’s not his day job, took months to do. As I was unpacking everything I pulled a plastic storage box containing all the kitchen stuff I was unpacking along the brand new worktop and put a massive scratch on it. Husband was surprisingly forgiving. I wouldn’t have been and still feel sick every day I look at it!

WendyMad · 03/07/2020 21:44

Had a new pair of trousers, white, really smart. Went in the garage to get something, pushed a plastic tray out of my way, thinking it was empty - oil sloshed all down my leg. No amount of washing could get out the big dark stain.

On the plus side, I now have the nicest ever pair of gardening trousers ...

Rainbowsoup · 03/07/2020 21:49

Recarpeted new house, very next day somehow left the iron face down on the carpet.
This is why I don’t iron..

TeddyGizmo · 04/07/2020 05:23

Someone gave me a second hand iPhone 4 back in the day. I was so happy, I couldn't afford an iPhone at the time and it was a really big deal for me.
He did explain that it might need a new battery so I had it replaced for 35 EUR.

Dropped it down the toilet a few days later and ruined it.

Bought a second hand iPhone 6. Had the screen replaced twice from dropping it.
A year later upgraded so gave it to my husband.
He dropped it so had the screen replaced.
Cat knocked it on floor so screen replaced again.

I'm friends on Facebook with my local phone fixer now.

Cheeseismymiddlename · 04/07/2020 05:51

Bought a new kettle exactly the same as the old one that was tripping the fuse box. I was curious to know if it was the kettle or the base that was faulty so I put the old kettle on the new base and switched it on. I blew the fuse in the new base. My DH has no idea what I was thinking. Neither do I . It had been in the house less than 2 minutes. Blush

Cheeseismymiddlename · 04/07/2020 06:03

My DS did his first every scribble on the front of my favourite Bayswater bag. I actually didn't mind it and felt a little sad when it eventually faded. However, the dog pee and soy sauce has never come out.

PrincessPain · 04/07/2020 08:29

As a child we very rarely had treat food, but my mom bought me a kebab and I decided i couldn't wait and started to eat it walking up the road, there was a dog off its lead and i was pretty scared of dogs.
I thought it was going to attack me for my kebab, so kind of started to run away while looking behind to see where he was. I ran into a brick lamppost, smashed my face, dropped my kebab, and the dog ate it.
Also bought a chip shop as a teen with my pocket money, only to drop it as soon as I got outside, I was so peeved I kicked it, slipped on the mayo and fell onto the pile of soggy mayo, chips and fish.
As a young child saved all my money to buy a guitar from argos, all birthday, Christmas and pocket money, had it in an envelope, £70!
Went into argos, and the guitar was out of stock, went back to the car and I'd lost the money. Still kills me.
I ebayed for ages to get a limited edition dress from twilight, I know (its the green and black one from the second film) finally found one in my size and won it on ebay for more than I would usually pay. I peeled open the brown paper on the parcel to make sure it was my dress when it arrived. We was in the middle of moving house and I didn't want to lose it in the moves or get it dirty so i left it in its packaging. Took it to the new house with me and put it on the sideboard in the hallway, immediately loads of junk mail gets put in top of it and it was all thrown out together 😡 still hate myself a bit for that one and I've never found it in this country in my size again 😭.

lboogy · 04/07/2020 13:55

Bought an iPhone 11. Had it for 2 weeks. It fell out of my back pocket in a car park. A driver stopped to let me cross, as I ran across his car my phone fell out of my back pocket. The driver in a big 4x4 drove over the phone. I felt sick to my stomach. I had no insurance so had to pay £230 to fix a phone that cost me £800.

Walkerbean16 · 04/07/2020 14:00

very expensive macbook left it on the floor and knocked the baby bath over it.

OkOkWhatsNext · 04/07/2020 14:13

Dh bought me a set of nice wine glasses for mothers’ day. Bought in London, carried home on train and bike. Wrapped the box, gave it to DS to carry in to me in bed on the morning. DS dropped it immediately and smashed the glasses. 🤦‍♀️

FelicityBeedle · 04/07/2020 23:36

@Tillygetsit I’m so intrigued, how do you put coffee in the wrong part of the machine to the point where it breaks? The water tank or something?

2020iscancelled · 04/07/2020 23:45

Not me but I witnessed a car crash a few years ago, I got out of my car behind him.

The youngish lad was fine but he smashed his car into a motorway bridge, total write off - he was on the way home from the garage having literally JUST bought it. He hadn’t even insured it as was driving it home.

Turns out he’d just got back from a tour in Afghan and he’d bought the car out of his tour bonus.

Poor lad Sad
