@GingerFluffycat - my little dd has eagle eyes and would definitely pick up anything sparkly like a dropped diamond. It's funny to think that somewhere maybe a little kid has your missing diamonds in their treasure box and they/their parents have no idea of the value!

A tablecloth couldn't possibly cause scratch marks on a table top, Undead. Neither could a fleece blanket!!
Your kids have obviously been using the table unbeknownst to you.

DH bought me a beautiful Chanel bag for my 30th birthday. We only had one dog at the time, a springer who had never chewed anything in her life. I left it hooked over the bannister at the end of our stairs one evening, came down the following day and she'd chewed right through it.

I cried for about 5 days.

I’m so glad I’m not alone with the bleach thing !! I can wear my “scruffs” I normally put on for cleaning and bleach away to my hearts content and nothing .... but decide to do an impromptu clean or squirt of bleach somewhere when in normal clothes and you can guarantee they will end up ruined , i never learn ! Literally only this week massive blob of bleach on my top which made me mad enough to then discover it had also gone through to my favorite trousers . I quite honestly put one squirt down the sink after washing up and have no idea how this happened . So mad

As the username suggests I have had many many other incidents . Smashed brand new phone and damaged brand new ( to me ) car being two examples

I also ripped a pair of Bought that day new denim shorts on a night out back in the day and spent the whole night furious !

I can absolutely assure you that the table was not used. I even did a test myself when I discovered the scratches. I lightly and barely moved the tablecloth across the table and it left a huge mark in the high gloss finish right in front of my eyes.

The table was not used, It was the tablecloth itself that caused the scratches, and then the fleece blanket as I was assembling the table.

My poor poor partner during some really difficult times a couple of years ago finally got his new apple laptop, very very expensive and customised (he's a software developer). He spilt a cup of Fanta over it on day one in the midst of a very serious (life and death) family drama. The cost for repair was so high it wasn't worth doing, so he spent two or three years trying to find his way around non working keys. I felt SO sorry for him.

I bought a big horse ornament that I'd coveted for ages. It was the most expensive ornament I'd ever bought. Got home, all four legs had snapped. Gutted.

I had my iPhone screen repaired last week and broke it again within a couple of days (because I’d forgotten to put the cover back on 🙈)

1300cakes · 02/07/2020 15:22

Not me but a funny one on TV a few years ago from Perth, Australia. The new iPhone launched, people had lined up overnight to get it. One person came out of the store, having finally got it, and was interviewed by a TV news crew and filmed as he opened it. Yep, he dropped it.

Brand new car - saved for ages to buy it (nothing amazing just a Ford Fiesta)
3wks after I bought it some lovely person keyed all the way down the side of it whilst it was in the work carpark.
2wks after that after the Biffa bins had been emptied they didn’t put the break on properly and one rolled across the car park into my car.
4wks after that went to visit my dad, he had bought a work van home and the handbrake failed, it rolled off his drive, across the close and into my car!

Because it was brand new I kept it for years, as was always the plan, and I loathed the car after everything that had happened in the first few months of having it.

Spilt curry into the lap of an expensive brand new white dress, when l went to a friends house for dinner.

lifebeginsat16 · 02/07/2020 17:38

First time wearing a beautiful Laura Ashley, boned bodice sundress (which was a very expensive treat for me at the time), I bounded up the stairs and the patch pocket caught on the end of the banister rail. I do big bounds and the rip was so big it reminded me of the Eurovision 'Making your mind up' video. Gutted.

Not me, but when I worked for an Audi dealership, we took delivery of a new R8 when they first came out. Boss decides to take it for a spin, lost control and wrapped it around a signpost. £38k worth of damage!!!

Lucked · 02/07/2020 17:41

Brand new leather skirt. Splashed foundation all over it whilst it still had the tags on. Thought it would just wipe off but it stained. I did get it clean enough to wear but I still know where the splashes were.

Allthebubbles · 02/07/2020 17:44

Drove into a multi-storey car park with a new roof box on the car, all ok except for one low beam which I then had to drive out under too. One squished box with a spilt in it! Not a good first outing.

Funguy · 02/07/2020 17:48

I bought a Tissot watch once and immediately scraped the crystal on the train door.

Blingismything · 02/07/2020 17:52

@WombatChocolate

Bought a new washing machine. Didn't read the instruction to remove the transit bolts before using. New washing machine went beserk during the spin and violently leapt and crashed it's way through and out of the kitchen units it was between, damaging them and knackering itself. I won't forget the sight of DH trying to cling onto it and stop it leaping across the room into the back door.
This has actually made me roar and cheered me up no end after a shite day.

Was going to a posh friends for dinner. Went to local independent wine merchants and took his advice and purchased 2 x £40 bottles of wine. Old car used to have electric sliding doors. Before I had a chance to shout "don't open the door" my ex had pressed the button and both bottles of wine smashed on the driveway. Sent him back to get replacements. Was an expensive night

totalinsomniac · 02/07/2020 18:01

Oh god @wombat I'm dying 😂😂😂

ProfessionalWeirdo · 02/07/2020 18:04

@tinyme77

Someone I worked with bought designer jeans with holes in them (this was the style not a fault). When her mother found them she lovingly applied patches to fix the holes not realising that she was ruining then.
Years ago (back in the dark ages when I was a teenager) Wrangler jeans were a comparatively new phenomenon, and a much sought-after status symbol. A friend from school saved up and bought a pair - only to find that between the first and second wearings her DM had cut the all-important Wrangler label off the back pocket.
LadyofTheManners · 02/07/2020 18:05

Loads of times as I'm a clumsy oaf
Found a gorgeous pair of vintage 70s denim flares. Walked out bathroom and I've no idea how but the belt loop got caught round the door handle, I didn't realise and rip. Whole side just went.
Another pair of jeans, wore them.on a night out, came home, tripped and fell backwards, ripped the arse on the way down
Bought a very nice vase trying to adult after someone bought me a beautiful bouquet of flowers as a thanks for helping out with an event. Tripped up the step and smashed it to pieces.
Someone reversed into our brand new, just picked it up off the forecourt mini about ten years ago. That was an interesting discussion with the insurance firm.

gutentag1 · 02/07/2020 18:07

Bought my first flat, started unpacking boxes and wanted a coffee. Hadn't bought mugs or spoons yet, but had a protein shaker + coffee.

Put the coffee in with boiling water and shook, the top burst open (something to do with the heat I guess?) and splattered black coffee all over my white ceiling.

No amount of wiping would get it off and I had to repaint it all in the end.

AgeLikeWine · 02/07/2020 18:07

I dropped my current iPhone three days after buying it. It was in an allegedly protective case, but the corner of the screen was still cracked. Very annoying!

Sewell61 · 02/07/2020 18:08

I bought a band new laptop, left it on the floor & went to bed. The next morning the wall unit had fallen onto it, smashing it to bits. The unit had been on the wall for 8years without any problems. Thank God I had insurance

Chilledchablis · 02/07/2020 18:13

Spent a fortune having my beautiful classic car refurbed, including a full paint respray. Picked it up from the garage and drove home thinking I was just the cat's whiskers, turned into the drive and walloped the gate post - aaargh! They do say pride goes before a fall!

grannycake · 02/07/2020 18:16

Two designer cashmere jumpers. My DH helpfully washed them - they would fit a 7 yr old
