Smashed my new very expensive phone within the first 3 days. I cried Blush

MaggieMagpie357 · 02/07/2020 20:02

Received my lovely new expensive foundation through the post this morning - then promptly dropped it on the laminate floor. Relieved when I realised it hadn’t smashed, then realised the plastic top had sheared off entirely, so there’s just a hole in the glass at the top and I can’t use the pump. I’m such a klutz.

As a teenager at college with only my Saturday job money, I bought myself a denim boob tube to wear on a night out. Tried it on when I got home, got into it but couldn't get out of it. Ended up having to cut it off.

Ruined lots of clothes with bleach splashes. One I remember was a lovely navy blue jumper dress I'd bought when heavily pregnant. I was cleaning the kitchen with spray bleach and didn't realise until later that day that I'd bleached an orange line across the front of it where my bump had touched the edge of the worktop!

Brand new handheld type vacuum cleaner bought at great discount last year... 2nd time using it I dropped it and broke the catch that holds it all together. Its surviving with gaffer tape 😬

My brother bought me a ipod touch for my 21st my pride and joy took it to work and left it in my coat pocket. Anyway at the end of my shift I went to the staff room to get my coat. Ipod gone headphones left behind I was devastated

TinkerLilly · 02/07/2020 21:02

First big social event post partum. Bought the most beautiful skirt, silk, cut on the bias, looked a million dollars. Was looking forward to many more wears.
Next morning it got hooked up with sheets as I changed the bed and ended up in the washing machine...and dryer. Was only fit for Barbour after that.

£900 ring engraved with the family crest. Went out after work - and wasn’t having the greatest time personally, so got rather drunk.

Thought the ring would be safer on my finger (as the ring company had actually sized it far too big, little did I know as I was so excited to put it on!) than in the box, and woke up the next day and ring was gone.

When I woke up the next morning lots of sobbing to my parents happened Blush

Also picked up my brand new car yesterday, was merrily taking it on my first solo drive - very nearly had it written off by an absolute moron not looking and pulling out of a side road at 50mph.... Angry

@Sonders

When I was a teenager my parents bought me a newly released Nokia 3200 - the one where you could make your own case.

I spent all weekend printing out different options to find the perfect style to impress everyone. And then I left it on the bus on my way to school.

Oh Sonders. Gutted for you but that made me laugh.

Why is everyone using this much bleach? Bad for the environment.
I chuck a bit down the loo from time to time but that’s it. 😱

CockysGirl · 02/07/2020 21:42

I bought a very expensive bottle of wine in duty free which they put in a protective wrapper but when I went through customs they made me take it out of the wrapper for inspection and as I struggled to remove the wrapper it fell on the floor and smashed!! The customs guy just shrugged his shoulders and walked off! 😫

I wondered this, actually. All this randomly splashing bleach around whilst wearing your good clothes Confused

When I was a child my parents had a new carpet fitted in the front room. I managed to spill a pot of glue all over it.
On another occasion Mum had just re-wallpapered the same front room, I was trying to refill a fountain pen which squirted all over the walls (she had to patch it).

Thinking about it, my Mum must have been incredibly tolerant.

dylanthedragon · 02/07/2020 22:03

I was boarding a ferry. I had put my new phone on my lap after showing the tickets. Parked, got out of the car forgetting the phone, phone smashed on the metal floor. Picked it up and went to open the boot to get my bag. Didn't notice the low hung light on the ceiling (because i was raging at myself about the phone) and took a big chunk out the paintwork on my car - I'd had it a month.

Mercedes519 · 02/07/2020 22:06

Much less impact than many of these but one that stays with me...bought a bag of Percy Pigs. Left the shop and opened the bag so hard the whole bag flew threw the air and went on the floor. I can still feel the disappointment.

Lamaitresse · 02/07/2020 22:06

Yes 😭 Bought a gorgeous vintage style summer dress for dd online, and when it arrived I was a little too zealous cutting the packaging open and cut straight through the sleeve. I was so upset!

Miljea · 02/07/2020 22:07

God, we cry a lot, don't we?......

VenusOfWillendorf · 02/07/2020 22:09

Bought a new black dress two weeks ago. Wore it the next day and splashed bleach on it.
So I ordered a new one - a size smaller to 'encourage' myself with the diet ... not sure if I have just wasted my money. Twice.

smilingontheinside · 02/07/2020 22:14

Many many years ago when I was young, free and single I bought a silk top to wear clubbing. Whilst ironing it ready to put on burned a hole in the collar. Left a big singed hole that couldn't be hidden and never did wear it 😔

Dinnaefash · 02/07/2020 22:19

DS was always very hard on clothes. I only ever bought proper fitted Clark shoes for my brood and had them all measured regularly. Bought him new shoes, got home and he wanted to take his bike to the park. Came back an hour later with the soles of both completely worn away, down to the leather, from braking by dragging his feet. Furiously frog-marched him to the nearest supermarket and bought him a really nasty pair of converse type things with a thick rubber sole that were only a couple of quid. Those buggers lasted MONTHS.

Family heirloom expensive crystal trifle bowl I was never allowed to touch as a child, finally handed on to me when I married with much ceremony. Made a celebratory trifle, put it in the sink to wash it up making sure nothing else was there to chip it. Ran the tap, water was so hot the bowl broke clean in two.

Countless coffees spilt before drinking, my own style is to put a tray down not fully on the table and take off the one that's anchoring it first so the weight of the others flips it over - including once not so long ago 4 giant Cokes in Burger King whilst still at the till - straight down the front of the poor bloke serving me.

youwouldthink · 02/07/2020 22:24

Bought a set of beautiful hand painted wine glasses from a local artist and had them displayed on the shelf on top of my wine rack. Half an hour later the painting I hang hung over the wine rack the week before fell off the wall and smashed three out of the four glasses I'd bought. . Gutted!

Claricethecat45 · 02/07/2020 22:35

Bought some expensive ear plugs/speakers for my iPhone
Got the package home and couldn't open the plastic packaging
Got some scissors to open the shell and promptly cut the wire in half

  • useless
Marellaspirit · 02/07/2020 22:36

I dropped my brand new phone down the toilet-that was pretty gutting. It was insured but couldn't be fixed so I ended up with a refurbished replacement that was the same model but a different colour. I'd literally only had it a week. I dropped the replacement down the toilet 6 months later but luckily it dried out ok this time! I no longer keep my phone in my back pocket!

ivfbabymomma1 · 02/07/2020 22:50
