to hate what Brexiters have done

I know this has been done before, but knowing that we are now likely on course for a No Deal Brexit in the midst of a pandemic I am so angry and upset about what Brexiters voted for. I'll forgive any who were conned and now think better of it, but I cannot get over the loss of Freedom of Movement to live and work in the EU - not so much for me, but for my children - and the way the UK is sliding in international standing economically and in attracting doctors, nurses, scientists etc. (I know from before that Leavers don't care what I think, but just had to post).

aah Xing your family are obviously massive racist xenophobes for not embracing the changes :-)

user1471448556 · 01/07/2020 16:05

Brexit is a terrible idea. Really resent having FOM removed from me and my family. The younger generations are going to be so hacked off - Brexit plus Covid will leave them with narrow futures ... it's bad enough for my generation (Gen X) ... it's bloody terrible for Gen Y and Z - and they didn't even want Brexit in the first place. I can see increased generational friction, especially once the economy goes into freefall.

SerendipityJane · 01/07/2020 16:06

Most developed countries set quite high hurdles for economic migrants, to achieve the balance of skills their economy requires

Until today that might have been true. An open door policy to 3,000,000 people runs counter to that.

FOM within the EU was a bit of an experiment when the mid and east European expansion happened.

And FOM from HK is a bigger experiment. Who's recording the results ?

hashtagbollocks · 01/07/2020 16:07

in fact, why am i engaging in this whingefest.
Shouldn't this be hidden in the wastelands of the actual brexit topic?

thegcatsmother · 01/07/2020 16:08

It really isn’t easy for an American to work legally in the EU. The EU is quite a big place, and Americans do manage it (my ex NDN for a start).

totallyyesno · 01/07/2020 16:08

LOL. You not noticed the pandemic that's effectively shut the economy down for almost a third of the year?
LOL. You know it's going to take decades to recover from Brexit? (And that's according to its supporters!)

I think that @EmperorCovidula meant to write was It's not difficult to get an EU passport if you're already a multimillionaire - but even there they are clamping down! www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-50331697

XingMing · 01/07/2020 16:11

I'd have to dispute that one hashtag, but then I know them and you don't. You may think that preferring a more controlled approach to social change constitutes massive racist xenophobia, but I hope you have your tongue-in-cheek.

hashtagbollocks · 01/07/2020 16:11

LOL, it's going to take a lot longer to recover from covid than the possible temporary blip of brexit LOL LOL LOL

hashtagbollocks · 01/07/2020 16:13

Xing my post was very much tongue in cheek.
I come from an area which has been devastated by uncontrolled immigration

strugglingwithdeciding · 01/07/2020 16:13

@SerendipityJane but it isnt easy for them to work in the eu , canaddians etc they cant just turn up ans apply for a job
You inplied these countries had done a deal therefore implying it would work both ways , this isnt true

totallyyesno · 01/07/2020 16:16

@hashtagbollocks So it's going to take decades to recover from Brexit and even longer to recover from Covid? That's good news for all our competitors then as they only have to recover from covid and haven't decided to inflict extra pain on themselves. LOL LOL LOL

Goinghometocallie · 01/07/2020 16:16

This has been done to death. Stop droning on about it. Do you handle all things that don’t go your way with such despair?
I’d rather read about corona that brexit and that’s saying something. Don’t you have a husband or a friend to go over this with?

XingMing · 01/07/2020 16:16

Thanks hashtag... I sometimes question my reading skills on MN!

hashtagbollocks · 01/07/2020 16:20

So it's going to take decades to recover from Brexit
I think I said Brexit may cause a temporary blip and covid would take decades
( LOL x 50 )

totallyyesno · 01/07/2020 16:20

What you don't seem to grasp @hashtagbollocks is we know it will take decades to recover from Brexit as we have already spent so much on it. We are past the stage of hoping it is a blip. Do keep up. www.theneweuropean.co.uk/top-stories/brexit-to-cost-more-than-uk-paid-in-to-eu-1-6463383

FriedasCarLoad · 01/07/2020 16:21

I find it hard to understand how intelligent people who have seriously looked into the EU with an open mind can fail to see any arguments for the side they disagree with.

I'm strongly opposed to the GRA (amongst other things) but am perfectly capable of understanding why others are for it, without having to assume they're all thick /selfish /malicious /ignorant.

With Brexit, so many people see it as completely black and white.

strugglingwithdeciding · 01/07/2020 16:22

@totallyyesno
You have no idea how brexit will affect us no one does fully and that os a fact no matter what side you are on
And i love all these who say even its supporters say it will take years to recover - do you have links ? Thought not
But all those moaning , move on, if your desperate to live in eu , look up how its possible for non eu people
Learning the language is always a good start

Alsohuman · 01/07/2020 16:23

Did someone hold a gun to your head and make you read the thread?
hashtagbollocks · 01/07/2020 16:23

Actually xing it's disturbing that if you veer at all from the view that all immigration and social change is great, then you expect to be called a racist and don't really bat an eyelid as you expect it ( not just you obviously, people in general)
When was the right to form an opinion removed on an issue which affects people personally, financially and socially on a day to day basis.

SerendipityJane · 01/07/2020 16:23

This has been done to death. Stop droning on about it. Do you handle all things that don’t go your way with such despair?

All hail the thread police !!!!

We had to put up with Brexiteers whinging for decades before dinky David Cameron got his todger out of the pigs mouth and called a referendum to keep the Tory party together.

So now Brexiteers can put up with decades of Remainers whinging at every turn. Seems a fair deal.

strugglingwithdeciding · 01/07/2020 16:25

@totallyyesno love your totally unbiased link but even that uses the word predicted , thats not a fact yet thats a maybe

strugglingwithdeciding · 01/07/2020 16:26

@SerendipityJane but their whinging as you call it got them somewhere yours wont as its already been agreed and there is no going bacj

SerendipityJane · 01/07/2020 16:27
@SerendipityJane but their whinging as you call it got them somewhere yours wont as its already been agreed and there is no going bacj
Sounds like a challenge to me.

strugglingwithdeciding · 01/07/2020 16:28

@friedascarload
The only sensible comment in here
For those that looked into it fully they would know there are pro's and cons but its easier for then to just insult people who disagree with them

strugglingwithdeciding · 01/07/2020 16:30

@SerendipityJane go ahead but why waste your time
Why not actually accept its happening and if you see working rights changing for the worse etc then help campaign against this
We wont be going back into the eu as before anytime soon , even if we wanted to
