Deer leg in garden

SquishyBones · 28/06/2020 12:11

I get my dogs deer legs to chew on (complete with hooves and hair). As it’s been hot my dog has been off her food and I gave her a deer leg on Friday to chew on. She carried it around the garden then tried to bury it in DH veg pots so I told her off. She then carried it to the back of the garden and pushed it through a small hole in the fence landing in next doors garden. They were sitting out in the garden at the time and the woman screamed and ran inside and her husband just said “what the fuck is that?!” I went over to the fence and apologised and explained it was the dog. He asked me where I got it from and if I make a habit of killing and chopping up animals!! I explained they are bought from the pet shop. He apologised but added “it’s disgusting though, the wife is in a right state”. I asked him if we could have it back and he refused to touch it so I had to go around to their house and get it myself (they don’t live next door, they live down the street but their garden backs onto ours.

I retrieved it and told DH that dog was to have no more until she got her appetite back.

Well she’s only gone and done the same thing with a big fucking black fury cows ear that DH gave her. They’re going to go ballistic when they see it.

AIBU to insist that DH goes for it this time?

We have pig snouts and all sorts, I could imagine they would have a bit of a fright if that came poking through the fence.

At least the bull penis’ are dried and don’t resemble what they actually are. Now that I would find funny.

I found a decapitated foxes head in my garden the other week. A dear leg wouldn’t phase now. But it’d much rather see a dog gnawing in something natural than a shite sugar and processed fake food stick.

Eileithyiaa · 28/06/2020 12:38

Well this made me laugh Grin

beethecrackon24995 · 28/06/2020 12:38

Fuck me op. Pleased I don't live near you. I wouldn't be happy to have random parts of animals in my garden either especially deer legs as i regularly go to see a herd of deer who live in a forest where we live

ButDoUAvocado · 28/06/2020 12:38

My dogs eat stuff like this too, lambs heads, furry ears of various animal, it’s really good for them and the fur acts as a natural wormer.
Pedigree treats are so full of crap and rawhide is dangerous.
I would just have put rubber gloves on and gone and retrieved it from their garden or sent a toddler through the gap to get it

StealthNinjaMum · 28/06/2020 12:39

I know I shouldn't but this made me laugh. I hadn't heard of this but I actually think it's good that things like that are given to animals. Would people rather cows' ears were thrown away or put in our processed spag bol? Unless your neighbour's a vegan I think they're a bit sensitive.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 28/06/2020 12:39
Grin i dont know how to vote tbh
TheChippendenSpook · 28/06/2020 12:39

Oh deer! Wink

BumbleBeen · 28/06/2020 12:40

Or a pig's trotter.

SquishyBones · 28/06/2020 12:41

I don’t run my dogs in hot weather, I’m not daft.

They get a good run at 6am and again at night but during the day they’re at home so the chews keep them occupied. Plus as someone else has pointed out the fur is a natural wormer.

I love the fact she shoves it next door when she doesn't fancy it😂😂😂

Deer leg is much better than mass made crap. We used to give ours pigs ears and pigs feet. They loved it.

suggestionsplease1 · 28/06/2020 12:42

O this made me laugh, I know it shouldn't! Yes, you need to fix the hole pronto.

I have a dog that insists on trying to hide his 'valuable' things in the most difficult to access spaces so I feel your pain.

MitziK · 28/06/2020 12:43

I'm just thinking of the number of flies your DDog could be attracting by being given this stuff in summer.

Don't have a huge problem with the actual nature of the 'treats', although I wouldn't be particularly impressed with what looked like the start of a Cervine Zombie Apocalypse appearing through the fence.

But surely they could be given to her early in the morning when she's a) hungry and b) it's cooler?

vanillandhoney · 28/06/2020 12:45

@TheVanguardSix

Jesus Christ op can’t you give the pooch a dentastik like the rest of us.

Proper LOL! Grin Grin Grin And so bloody true! Dial it back OP. Your dogs are hyper. Walk them more! Don't throw them out back with a stack of deer legs, is my unasked for advice. Jesus.

Why is a crappy processed "treat" better than something all natural?
drinkingwineoutofamug · 28/06/2020 12:47

When I saw the title I thought it was about me and my dog. I buy her deer leg, pig/cow/deer/rabbit ears, chicken feet the lot!
They are actually a good natural wormer for dog. Yes my back garden resembles Jurassic park but dog is happy. And I don't have to use chemicals to worm her.

LaurieFairyCake · 28/06/2020 12:47

My dog is raw fed, still wouldn't upset the neighbours with legs and earsConfusedShock

Studycast · 28/06/2020 12:47

GrinGrinGrin

Crikey, people are very easily upset these days!

Dogs are carnivores and not all of them eat processed rubbish.

I don't personally feed raw, but our dogs are regularly given recognisable leg bones and ears to chew on.

Just the same as having a dead bird or rat in your garden. It wasn't done on purpose. You went around and removed it. Don't see the problem.

snowybean · 28/06/2020 12:47

Fascinating! With a fixed fence it'll be fine.

At least it wasn't a rotting leg, that wouldn't be pleasant 🤣

BobFleming · 28/06/2020 12:48

My dog would die from sheer joy if we gave him a deer leg. I had no idea you could buy them.

(He found a dead deer once and had a quick nibble on the intestines. OMG he was so sick the next day.)

I can't even look at pigs' ears though, so there is just no way I could deal with a deer's leg.

I am not surprised your neighbours are upset - you need to make your fence secure.

FortunesFave · 28/06/2020 12:49

I get my dogs bones from the local butcher and I ALWAYS say "No trotters! Nothing that looks like what it once was please!"

Bloody no need! Get the dog a normal, indiscriminate bone ffs!

longtompot · 28/06/2020 12:51

My dog loves her raw ducks necks. My sister bought them for her dog but it didn't like them. I think a byproduct of the meat industry is a much better thing to give your dog than a mass produced dog chew. I do think it's funny your dog did that, but I also understand why your neighbour was a bit upset. Block the hole,

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 28/06/2020 12:51

I would be horrified, but I have a very weak stomach. The picture was enough. But completely understand your dog is raw fed. I would have asked you to remove it yourself and would probably have taken your number just in case any other instances.
So while your neighbours are out is it possible you could put a stick through the hole to drag it back?

hairypaws · 28/06/2020 12:51

I love this, it's so funny. I can imagine my neighbours if my dog did this. We can't get anything like that for our pooches. Just the usual chicken feet, pig ears etc. I think my dog would love this. Why do they always insist on hiding their high value treats away. My girl runs around with them in her mouth, crying constantly until she finally settles down to chomp.

musicposy · 28/06/2020 12:51

Ooh I didn’t know the fur is a natural wormer - much better for the dog. I buy bags of bones and various leftover parts from the specialist butcher/ farm shop near us but I’ve never seen a deer leg for sale. The dog found a rotting one on a walk once, though, and counted that as one of her Best Walks Ever 😆

This thread is hilarious. I’d get DH to go and retrieve it, yes, and maybe not give the dog any more until her appetite is back!

vanillandhoney · 28/06/2020 12:52

I really don't understand this at all. It's still bits of pig whether you can see the trotter or not.

Some people are very squeamish.
